Having been clued in to the full situation at the safehouse as well as the full ware outlay on Ron Salt, Angela continued speaking with Joe.
"This man may be something other than we expect.  We've got video of him being worked over in short time by Ragley's people.  <link> Some kind of mind wipe, augmentations, who knows what else.  He could be broadcasting everything that's happened in the last 4 hours.  We may have just blown everything with this guy.  I don't even know.  Last I talked to him, he seemed ready to flip on Ragley.  Could ID him for the murders at the club... supposing that hasn't been swept under the rug yet.  Put the target on the defensive and cut him off from his backers."  Her agitation had grown quite a bit, even though her voice remained flat and unaffected.  "I am upset.  Excuse me.  I shouldn't be.  I don't handle frustration as well as I should.  This was just a short piece of work.  I'm sure I can find something to busy myself with while you work out the details on how to continue.  Be aware though, this man has significant resources and will use them to stay alive.  It will be difficult to force him into a vulnerable position.  I'll leave you to it.  You know how to contact me if you happen upon a short-call opportunity and need a quick hand."

Business concluded, Joe nodded toward Kitten and started out of the clinic.  <<@Andromeda:  We should be ready to leave.  I'm not sure if we need to meet up.  If you can't think of a good reason for all of us to get together, I would appreciate you dropping me off near downtown.>>

"Maybe with an illusion of some kind it might be possible," Kitten said, "I can't tell like that, illusions have never been my strong point, except invisibility.  Maybe one of those mages they use to create special effects on the trids can do it, but you have to be a really sick bastard to make something like that.  I could have a look around in the house to check if there's an astral signature remaining."

Silk forwarded a textfile to CJ, containing a summary of what she'd gotten out of Ron Salt. The exact address of the safehouse wasn't included, neither was full information about the daughter. The RFID frequency codes from the vault were included at the end of the file, along with a "Pleasure to work for you, Mr. Johnson. Please don't hesitate to contact me for further assignments.".

She let her mind go over the events of the past 12 hours again and contemplated the puzzle they'd uncovered. She shrugged. They'd been hired to get the man out of the VIP room and they'd done so. Then they'd been paid to deliver the dead body to a ghoul and get some more information out of the living one and they'd done so. Job completed.
The small bruise the bullet's impact had left on her leg was already fading. All-in-all, not too bad a night considering the pay.

She put the puzzle and the questions out of her mind. The job was done, it wasn't her problem anymore. If CJ wanted more answers, he knew how to reach her.

And to the people at the coach room in Habu, Space says: "I don't know how you lady's, sorry Hank, feel but I could need a small coffee break after all this hacking and cracking."
With this, Space focus move to his AR windows. While his left arm relaxe on the armrest, his other hand moves smoothly through the air, moving some documents and actual news feeds in and out of his main vision.

Coffee ? Caffeine is terrible for your heart and blood system, that one nasty drug. I don't do that. I should probably get some sleep and make sure I get this eight hour.

But what is next, we wait until CJ sends us something or we start moving against that Ragley guy ? I know I hate being sent into a death trap for one's own pleasure, so I might have some stuff to say him...

"As far as I understode, that guy, Ragley, know that we or at least someone is coming after him and, under the assumption that he or the black man has done this to the turret, ... and whatever to the mercs to, he is really dangerous and paranoid. Who knows, maybe the guns have still some tags and he knows were they are right now.

Although, I'm just here for a couble of hours, I would say that the savest way would be to let him cool down for a bit, low his guard. Also I could use the time to ... working a little bit on some hardware project of mine.

"Where do we have to go," Kitten asked when they reached the car, "Do we come to that house of yours so I can have a look at the astral there?  I would suggest so, as I might be able to find traces of auras.  It won't do us much good now, but it might give me the chance to recognise them when I see them again.  I don't know how much I can find in this way, that depends on how long the house has been empty, but it might be worth a shot.  Oh wait, if Andromeda parks the car somewhere I can astrally project and come over that way.  But the car has to stay put if I try that, as I'd rather not go in search of my shoes.  seeing where you are now, it shouldn't take me much more than a minute to reach you from the moment the car is parked.  You guys can come to that point while I search the place astrally."

"You could have a spirit watch your body while we travel, couldn't you?  As I understand, that's the safest way to avoid physical detection while remaining bodily protected.  I've worked with hackers who have done something similar to avoid being traced.  It's very effective.  Anyway, I am tired, and after this potential exposure I'll need to spend the next several hours making sure I'm not followed."

@team:"It would appreciate it too, if you can drop me around the south end of downtown. Just waiting for the payment and I will lay low for the next week or so. If your Johnson has another job, after this small downtime, you ladys have a hacker, me, for sure. I can also control the cameras of the safe house and the building node every six hours or so. Maybe, I start my agent on this nexus to check the local news for Ragley and this unknown face; if you don't mind."
Space is only half focused on the discussion, about magic and spirits. He was never very interested in those voodoo and continues to read to some articles about nanites.

"Ok, let's see if I can get a watcher," Kitten said.  She began to chant in Old Egyptian, but nothing seemed to appear.  She needed one for two hours at maximum, as it normally wouldn't take longer to search the place and get back.  In fact, one hour would probably be enough, but she wanted to be careful.

Quote
summon watcher for 2 hours max
magic 6 + summoning 2 = 8 (8d6.hits(5)=0)
nothing appears
drain: 2 => I buy the hits (I have 9 dice on this)

"I must be more tired then I realise," she said to LJ, "I even forgot something.  I'm going to sit in the back, it's safer.  And don't touch me unless there's something really urgent, otherwise I have to come back to check it out every time.
She got in the back of the car, fastened the seatbelt (just in case) and tried again to get a watcher for two hours, this time making sure her speech was without error.

Quote
magic 6 + summoning 2 = 8 (8d6.hits(5)=2)
drain: same as above.

The watcher appeared on the astral plane.
"Guard my physical body and warn me if someone touches it," Kitten said to it, aloud so LJ would be aware of the order she had givent he thing.  With that done she astrally projected, moved up to about 200 metres above the earth so when she started 'running' she wouldn't run into astral barriers and she moved at full speed to the safehouse.  Arriving there the rest of the team had already moved, so she could have a look around without being disturbed.  First she looked around for spirit activity in the house, followed by a more detailed look for astral traces of spells.

Quote
intuition 5 + assensing 3= 8
looking for spirits and checking them out if there are any inside: (8d6.hits(5)=2
assensing for signatures: 8d6.hits(5)=2)
=> not enough, need three hits, so I assume I don't see any signatures

Looking around the astral inside and out Kitten doesn't notice any spirits or signatures. It's frustrating but it may have just been too long since the meeting.
Then a sharp feeling runs down your back.
Your watcher was just banished.

Just great, Kitten thought, now I have to find my body back without the watcher to guide me back, and very quickly.  Something had banished her watcher and that wasn't a good thing.  Well, time to switch to plan B.  She called up another watcher, again for a maximum of two hours, just to get back to her body.

Quote
magic 6 + conjuring 2 =8 (8d6.hits(5)=3) => only two needed
drain: 2 (again, buy the hits)

"Guide me back to my physical body," she told the watcher.  The little creature moved of and she followed with her astral form.  Some time later she spotted the car wich helt her physical body.  She moved into her body, but kept focused on the astral to see what had banished her previous watcher.

intuition 5 + assensing 3 =8 (8d6.hits(5) =1)

There was a slight signature left but barely anything, it had been a quick banish after all.

It was familiar, your blood runs cold as you realise it reminded you of Jean-Jacques.

Kitten was suprised.  He had been killed in Chicago, ripped apart by a Mantis spirit.  But the signature was clearly his.  In their years together with Merill's Marauders she had become so familiar with the signature of his spells that she would recognise it everywhere.  She was still a bit confused, but there was work to be done.  She reminded herself of the motto Jean-Jacques had always taught her with the Marauders: if you're not vigilant, you're dead.

She told the watcher to stay with her, hoping that the person would come back and she could have a better look.  Then she shifted her attention back to the physical world so she could report.
"I've seen no magical residues," she told the team, "Either there was no magic used or it has been used long enough for the residue to dissipate again.  I can't tell which of the two, sorry."

Then she turned to LJ.
"Can you tell me where we are now, and give our route," she asked.

@Team: "Right... was worth a shot, but I guess that's that then. Anything else we need to do, other than meet to divide the spoils?"

PM @ Space: "I know those searches will take some time and that we're not technically on the job anymore. But it would be good to know who we made an enemy of tonight, so I'd appreciate it if you continued and let me know what comes out of it. That counts for all of us I guess."
