Hi all,

I am starting a new shadowrun play by post campaign on my own play by post site, pbphud.com.  The site has a number of tools available, though many of them are specific to D&D 4e.  However that's mainly cause all of our existing campaigns use that system.  Once this campaign gets going I will add similar tools for shadowrun, including on-site character sheets, in-forum combat tracker, in-forum one-click skill/ability checks, and a shadowrun-specific dice roller.

As for the campaign itself, I was planning on running a published adventure and following up with my own stuff after the wheels get rolling.  I am a somewhat experience GM, though mostly with other systems, and I also haven't played shadowrun in about a decade, so it will take some time for me to get up to speed with everything.  In the mean time I expect to be referring to the rule book a lot and getting help from more experienced players.

Characters should lean closer to good than to evil, closer to altruism than to selfishness, though I don't expect you all to be sterotypical heroes.  I will be running a GM PC, and for now until I get to know the rules better, it will be a covert ops specialist archtype.  Others can feel free to play whatever they wish.

I am looking for 2-3 players in total.  You should be socially mature, in that you do not find yourself clashing with other people often, and you must be 18 years or older.

If interested you may post here or email me through this site, or you can pop over to where the game will be held, www.pbphud.com and PM me there.

Cheers all!

Steve / Gicker

I would be interested in playing, definitely.  I mostly play Faces or Combat Medic types, both of which could have hearts of gold under piles of scars, anger and sinew.

I'd be interested in playing some Shadowrun as well.  I've been lurking on this forum for quite a while, waiting for a game that I could pounce upon.   So please consider this my formal pouncing.

I'd probably wind up playing either A: A rigger or B: A mage with a focus on summoning and subtlety.  I can throw something else together, but rigger and summoner are what I've got right now.

Pstscrpt: My first post!

I am interested in playing, I usually play Gunslingers and Street Samurai. Will play Rigger if required.
Can post 11am-8pm Mon.-wed., 11am-6pm thursday, and 11am-12pm Fri.- Sun. I am a heavy roleplayer, a very dedicated gamer, and I can make my own characters on demand. I only have the base book so I don't know everything that's in the others. Thanks!

-Ex. Street Samurai

p.s. I am new to play by post, so cut my a shred of slack if possible.

I have the idea of a highly cybered sniper and also will read through the chapter about Surge to make him a bit more interessting. I use a generation tool for the standart parts of the character and have most of the books so I can create any other type of character if needed.

I also tried to register at PbPHUD but the activation mail is still on it's way through the matrix.

I'd be interested too.  I have no shortage of character concepts bouncing around my noggin after 20 years of myriad RPGs and find my unemployed and largely unemployable self with an abundance of free time to game in (after the month turns, I've got Origins and have to move all my stuff before the first), but am a bit shy on RAW rules knowledge.  I could put just about anything together concept wise.

He's made one single post, advertising his own website, and hasn't posted since...
Sorry to say, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

I hadn't noticed that.  Normally I only scan online accounts when I'm essentially trolling, waiting for responses to any of my many, many questions...  Which reminds me, I've got to go edit v2 of my Origins character, one of my local players noticed that I haven't got analyze on it and I spent more on my underclothes than was necessary...

So many little details to keep track of.   ;)

And in that time one post saying he's got his own PbP website. Hasn't even logged in to check if anyone responded.

Hello all,

First my apologies for not following up on this post.  I guess I forgot to enable email notifications, and assumed that I got no responses.  I did get a nasty email because of this thread, which I am sure was from Xzylvador, but that's life I suppose.

I had actually taken a long break from PbPs shortly after posting this advertisement, and while we did get a Shadowrun PbP going it didn't last very long.  It was GM'd by another person and fizzled out.

I am now quite interested in getting this thing going again.  I am on the last couple of chapters in 2XS and am eager to get a game going.  I would prefer to run the game over on my own PbP site which I already coded some tools for, for Shadowrun, and will continue to code more for it if things really take off, but if people who want to play are dead set on having the game here, and game's can indeed be hosted here, I would be up for that as well.

For now guys, please read the game advertisement.  It's a copy of what was posted on my own site:

Quote
I am starting a new shadowrun campaign for anyone who is interested.  I'm willing to start as soon as we have two people.

We are using 4e rules, and only the core rulebook for the time being.  I recommend Hero Lab's Character Builder, but you can use any builder as long as it can filter out content from other books.

We are creating a veteran runner campaign, so you get 500 BP instead of 400.  Make sure to spend some stuff on safehouses and contacts because you will need them.  Backstories are also needed, at least a couple of paragraphs.

Timeline is as of the 4e core rules release.

Your character is expected to have some sort of moral compass, and sense of honor.  I don't want sleaze bags in the campaign, but you don't have to be a knight in shining armor either.

There is no swearing allowed in the campaign unless you use the proper shadowrun alternative (frag, drek, etc).

Previous knowledge or experience with Shadowrun is not necessary.  If such is the case I will talk to you personally, get an idea of the kind of character you want, and create an archtype for you.  Once you have a better sense of the theme and rules you can remake your character as you see fit.  I will also give you a basic rundown of the theme and rules, and you can learn the rest as you go.

You must own a copy of the 4e rulesbook to play.  I believe they sell a PDF version for $10, so it's something almost anyone can afford.  I will not allow PDF pirates to play, though if you can convince another player to 'lend' you their PDF, I will allow that, as it's the same as borrowing someone's book irl to make a character and learn the game.

If interested please add yourself to the campaign using the main site menu at the top (you will need to register and login if you haven't already... this is separate from the forum registration).  Please also reply to this thread with your basic character concept, so other interested parties know what people are playing.

Expected posting rate is 2-3 times per week on average.  We ask that if you will be away from the game for more than a few days, to do your best to let us know.  I reserve the right as DM to play your character or skip your character during inactivity or during intense game moments and you haven't posted in 24 hours.

Any questions please reply to this thread.  Do not send me a PM unless you consider the matter to be sensative.

I will most certainly check back this time, and make sure notifications are enabled this time.  My apologies to all of the people Ieft hanging in my first attempt.

Thanks,

Gicker

I am totally down for this I have a 400 BP build; Social Engineering Decking Rigger Detective. He can do a little face and a bit of control room.
but I will upgrade to 500 for the game and I will have the back story fully typed upon your reply most likely.

Sounds good.  I have another from another site, though not sure what he will play yet.  I will likely play a GM PC.  Are you down for playing on my own site... http://www.pbphud.com/ ?  All I really have done so far is a decent SR dice roller, but I have plans to put in a combat tracker, skill check, and so forth.  Also the dice rolls are tracked so it's very difficult to cheat.

Cheers,

Gicker

Are these the original 4th edition rules that were released in 2005, or the more recent Anniversary edition?

I have some interest in playing a former Mitsuhama company man. Some tweaking's going to be necessary, but I've enjoyed this guy a lot.
