Sorry Larzarus you have just missed out on one of the open spots for the game but you go into the first reserve spot and if somebody doesn't post within 5 days they are out and you are in!  So feel free to comment on the group dynamic and what have you.

Welcome to the game benhatt.  Nobody has said anything about wanting to be a face so looks like that is probably going to be your spot!  But we'll discuss that as a group so that everyone can have their input into what your group looks like.

Hello all, I am not sure if I fall into the Newb category but I have never played a PBP game and would love to try. I like to play street Samurai type PC's that have a little bit of balance to them (no dump stats).

Personally I am a medically retired SGT from the Army and I stay at home at take care of our amazing son here in Seattle. I play in a large group here in Seattle made up of amazing people who meet twice a month or so to play.

Ok so first of all I'd like to formally welcome you all to this game.  I will be your GM and you can call me Van or Mr Hellstrom or SON OF A SLITCH.  I'm relatively easy to get along with and will try my best to provide you all with an enjoyable and fun PBP gaming experience.

Just so everybody is on the same page I will award Karma throughout the game rather than at the end because a PBP takes a long time to get anything done and I want you folks to feel like your characters are getting somewhere.  If you don't post for 5 days your character will be dropped from the game and a reserve player will be introduced.  This doesn't mean you can't play again you'll just be at the bottom of the list of reserve players.

If I don't post for several days it's probably cause it's the weekend or I'm spending time with my girlfriend, so when I come back everybody gets 1 Karma and we never speak of it again.   I'm actually going to be away for about 2 or 3 days next week, from Tuesday to Thursday, so I hope everybody looks forward to gaining Karma!

Also my preference for swear words is to use the Shadowrun equivalents rather than the actual word or heck make up your own word if you feel like it!  This is so that anybody regardless of age can read through this game and not think they just stumbled into a bar full of sailors.

Ok after each of your names I have listed your prefered character type.  For those who have a ? after your name basically you didn't have a preference and were going to wait till we started discussing it.  This is where we start discussing it so speak up now or forever hold your piece.

Just a reminder you all know of each other but have never worked together so work that into your background.

So, I've never played a Street Sam, would be willing to play a Razor Girl (no, I'm not a girl in real life). I would also be willing to play a grenade catching adept, because grenades hurt and being able to catch and throw them back is mildly useful.

So how do you guys like your mages?  Healing/support, damage dealing or some kind of combination.

Mages do damage? Since when? Jkjk, I tend to find support mages do better, (use spirits for fighting, use your mind-raping for in a pinch situations) but its up to you!.

No I'm just kidding ya Sichr! Its not about old or new but more about giving people new to the website, like myself , a chance to play in a Shadowrun PBP game.  However it has occured to me that there are quite a few people who would like to join a game but haven't had the opportunity even though they've posted a lot on the forums and so I'm thinking that I'll start up a game for them to join in. 

Seeing as this is pretty much the only forum that I'm posting on at the moment I've got the time to try and start up another game I think.  Hopefully I can rope somebody in to Co-GM it with me!

So Paenito you are thinking a Razor Girl or Phys Adept of some kind?  What kind of character concept you aiming for?  funkytim you are going the Mage route?  I'd suggest having at least a little healing magic in case things get really rough, which they might do. 

Are you guys going to be a group that is heavy on combat or one that aims to solve it's problems through subtle means and the artful con?

I am feeling a Face here.  I am thinking a Way of the Speaker adept with a very bad history with Mitsuhama. Personally, I like the subtler/con games but that is probably because I am a bigger fan of Leverage than I am of 24.

Primarily, just not a street sam, as that's what I've got going in the other game I'm in.  Also, I want to get more used to the rules for the above archetypes.  But if we need muscle, I can give muscle .  In fact, I could tailor those to combat as well. (well... most).  I have concepts for all of them, and can always come up with new ones fairly quickly.

I've never been sure of the free contacts rule.  It does make sense though, I mean nobody exists in a vacuum and you are likely to meet a lot of people growing up who can be helpful.  I'm open to it if everybody else is ok with using it? 

Cato what type of character would you prefer to play?  funktim is going Mage, Paenito is going Razor Girl or Physical Adept, benhatt is going Face as a Way of the Speaker Adept (which reminds me to read up on the Adept rules again), so that means if you were a Hacker or Technomancer all of the bases would be covered, but don't feel pressured into going that way!  There is still 2 other players to speak up yet, I forget their names though, so one of them could cover the Hacker angle.  You guys don't have any transport or drone support though.

I got a bit mixed up in my questioning.  The free contact rule that is in Runner's Companion seems only associated with the Karma build system. Apparently, I read the house rule thread (linked below) as legit alternative rule written in the books somewhere. I leave it up to everybody though.

I use that rule as well in my games (I like House Rules, and lots of contacts equals better opportunities for role-playing)
