To demonstrate the token rule, I'll look at Johnny Hiro's contact mix.

(Cha 5 + 4 skill)*2 = 18bp = 90 pts free
3/3  14 pts
1(3)/4 *free + 6pts
3/3 14 pts
2/4 18 pts
3/3 14 pts
2/2 6 pts

72 pts spent
That leaves 18 pts left for free contacts, which could equate to 3 more 2/2 contacts or a 2/4 contact.  Hell, that could also be 6x 1/2 or 9x 1/1 contacts.

Holy cow!! I was doing my math way wrong.  That's a pretty cool way of doing things.  It actually lets me get back the sixteen points I shaved off my character to fit in the contacts.  I will rework today.

Edit:  I've reworked my character one more time.  Given him a few more contacts and moved his skills around.

Yeah, it's based off the SR3 old method, where you would buy contacts with cash, and low level contacts were nothing, but the equivalent of a R6 contact cost 1/5 of the maximum resources you could have.

Anyway, I've got a question for everyone here.  This may be your first PbP on the catalyst board, but that doesn't mean you don't know what's up.

So, I'd appreciate a self-evaluation on your Shadowrun literacy.
How well do you know the plots history and world?

I have a fairly good grasp on the history of the world and some of the background exposition. I am not perfect with it though. I need work on understanding the rules (I can play,  but I plan on GMing in the future), although when it comes to inventing stories and such I'm pretty good.

It's been a long time since I've even role played anything.  I played some shadow run in the early nineties but the mechanics were much different.  I played a street mage back then and I'm familiar with most of the magic rules but the hacker stuff is mostly foreign to me.  I have a good idea of the history but not a detailed one.

I mostly am thinking on the lines of possibly adapting old 2nd and 3rd ed quests and whether I could get away with it. ;)

I'm sure you could with me.

Posting latest character edit.  Hope you don't mind but I used 2 of my free contact tokens for gear.

I used the token rule with chr * 2 free bp for contacts (got no social skills) and van isherwood for free.

Also removed the incompetants, added lost loved one and wrote a short back round for the spirit bane.

I think I'm ready to run.

I'm familiar with the world history and such.  Even when I wasn't playing I bought the Seattle books and Dunklezahn's Secrets (which might be one of my favorite SR books of all time) because I liked the world.  I almost ran Mob War a few years back, but I don't really remember the runs involved in that.  After that, the only real adventure I remember sort of well was the Dream Chipper one way back when.  You really could adapt anything and it will be new to me.

I'm not familiar with much in SR for the most part.  I'm actually new to playing SR, but I've read a lot of the books in the past because I like the idea of SR.  To answer your question: yes, you could.  At least as far as I am concerned :).

I am editing my character and will post those edits shortly.

I have a good knowledge of SR 2nd edition and what went on then. Since then I have a general idea but no real details. The last major plotline I played in was Chicago and bug spirits. I missed emergence and the rest.

Your suggestions are great Kontact re: Jink. I will finish up his changes tonight. cheers!

I have to admit I've some interest as well.  Looks full right now, but accepting reserves / alternates?  I'm working on a razorgirl / face hybrid at the moment.  I'll post her up when I get a few more things tweaked in the backstory.  I've got some other characters on tap too, in the event they're needed if I ever make it in :)

I'll be keeping an eye on the game since I've only gotten to play briefly in 1 pbp game before, and it did the fizzle thing.  So here's hoping for success!

Reserves are always welcome.  This is going to be a post or die kind of situation.

Won't necessarily be death, but anyone who disappears from the game without warning will find their character removed from action... if they ever bother to check back.
Vacations are fine, but notice and arrangements are how considerate people roll.

Anyway, mission 1 should be starting up this weekend.

Well consider me a reserve then. I have a few characters I haven't had a chance to run.

OK I've fixed up Jink - basically used all your suggestions Kontact, I think. Also swapped out skinlink on the wagon for a workshop instead. I boosted his existing contacts rather than add more, although I think I might still have some free points to spend in that regard, if we're doing the bonus points thing. His cyberarm is now obvious to account for the 15 cap. The sensor rules are a little unclear to me but I added rating 6 cameras (and radar) where I could. Otherwise I think he's pretty much good to go, pending approval.  8)
