I'm looking to start up a game set in Seattle. I'm wanting starting characters to be new to the biz. How they got into is of course up to you, but the runs will start out extremely easy for low powered characters and steadily advance.

Starting Availability is 8, with 400 BP characters and no more than 30 points spent on money. I don't mind high combat skills as long as the character has a background to support them, same thing with spells. Characters get 2*Cha as free points for contacts.

An additional note, I don't allow Softweave armor, and I allow non armored long coats and fashion suits for 30% of the armored version price. (So 210¥ for a non-armored lined coat to hide your weapons under).

I'll run for up to five characters. I intend to do updates once or twice a days most of the time, so if you can't keep this up, please don't try to play.

Cast of the Shadows

1. Chrona --- Nameless --- Human or Elf / Ambush+Infiltration(Disguise)
2. Larzarus --- Oni --- Ork /Ex-Ganger (Combat)
3. benhatt ---   Boosts --- Human/ Rigger
4. Onion Man --- Pig --- Human / Ex- Security Guard
5. Xzylvador? --- Rafa --- Ork / Sam+Infiltration
6. Farothel ---  Critter --- Ork/ Hunter+Face
7. Ethan  ---- Doc Uzi --- Human/ Mage

I think Heratic passes this... but... I don't think I can handle being the crazy Chulos Torturer in a real game.
I'd be interested if not for the gear restrictions, none of my other characters pass and I'm out of ideas, so oh well =_=
Goodluck with the game, I'll be back if I think of anything.

I can create what ever is needed. Right now I would think about a Ex-Ganger Combat Adept or Cyber Samurai (for latter I have to check the Avialability of some Cyber/Bioware again).

Do you have any character type restrictions? I might go for an Infected, Probably a Ghoul.

I'm be interested in playing.  I really like the idea of starting low and working up.  I can definitely keep up with a one or two posts a day schedule.  Is there a non-combat skill maximum?

I'd play.  It'd give me an excuse to work up a gun adept or something.

I don't have any restrictions on what race you play, and you can be infected if you want, just keep in mind the social restrictions that come with it. There arn't any skill minimums, but with only being able to spend 200 on attributes and 30 on gear, most characters should come out with some decent skill sets. I usually tailor my campaign strongly to the characters in it, so just make sure you've got a solid backstory that supports your skills and qualities and I'm usually fine with it.

Just to clarify to things beforehand, on the posts per day. If the game slows down because someone hasn't posted recently, I'll take on the person's character till they start posting again or the current run is over. If I'm going to be gone for a few days, I'll give everyone a heads up beforehand (and I appreciate the same from anyone playing). If a player is gone for more than a week without posting (or letting me know) or repeatedly goes multiple days without posting, I'll drop them and bring in an alternate.

Also, I havn't run a game on here before, just a few yahoo groups games in the past for Deadlands. The general way I do it is I make all the roles and post the hit results, if you want to spend edge to boost the results before hand, let me know when you state the action. If you want to spend it afterward, let me know and I'll update my descriptions.

In addition, for combat, I usually declare what mooks are doing to begin with just to speed things up (do this irl too) and unless its something they can't complete (such as shooting at the mage that is now behind a wall), its what  they do on  their action. I give detailed descriptions of each actions results usually and then after each round of combat (since pbp takes longer than irl) I usually will post a descriptive summary of the round just as a refresher and to get everything in one place.

I'll toss a post up on here later with a little more background to the campaign's atmosphere so that everyone interested has something to chew on while making their characters.

I'd be much more comfortable making my own rolls, we usually use http://invisiblecastle.com/ its reliable and lets a gm check everything.

Recent Events

Gang Violence
Over the past eight months, the intercity gangs have become increasingly more
competitive, violent, and brutal. Through in fighting and turf wars, the gang
population in the city has dropped to nearly sixty percent of what it was a year
ago, but yet gang violence has doubled with the remaining population seemingly
always active. Over three hundred civilian deaths can be related to
gang violence in the past six months, and the citizens of Seattle are bordering
on riot to get answers as to why Knight Errant, their new city security, doesn't
seem to be causing the slightest dent.

The Marcus Simms Murder
Nine months ago the young orc Marcus Simms, son of Anthony Simms head of the
Lonestar Prison Management for Seattle, was killed during an undercover Knight
Errant sting operation. At first he was chalked up as another ganger wiped out
in the drug raid, but after his identity was discovered and an extensive autopsy
was performed, medical personnel judged this scenario unlikely. He had no gang
markings, no drugs in his system, and his wounds (three close range pistol
wounds to the chest) were not caused by any weapons belonging to the dead
gangers or drug lord. Currently one of the undercover officers is on trial
for the murder of the kid and two more are suspended for suspicion of
involvement until the investigation is closed.

Knight Errant Reformation Project

Trying to become more accustomed to their new project of defending an entire
city, mostly from itself, Knight Errant is in the process of restructuring its
operating processes in the city. At the moment the corporation is being split
into the following six branches: L.E.P. (Law Enforcement Patrol), RRT (Rapid
Response Team), T.R.U. (Tactical Response Unit), A.T.R. (Awakened Threat
Removal), and T.R.T. (Terrorist Response Team), C.D.C (Central Dispatch Center).

Each branch has its own agenda and independently operates while monitoring and
responding to orders given through the Central Dispatch Center.

In addition, with the new Knight Errant Armaments subsidiary of Ares manufacturing
a new line of weapons and armor specifically for each branch to do perform its
role at maximum efficiency, it seems that Knight Errant may become a force to be
reckoned with. Unfortunately, the reorganization has yet to bear any fruit and the
public is skeptical at whether it ever will.

"Good evening Seattle. For those of you who don't tune in often, I'm Wendy Lane
and tonight I've got two very special guests here with me, Mr. Jameson Drake
from the HOPE campaign and Senior Chief Hans Ellis from Knight Errant. We'll
start things of with you Mr. Drake."

"Well to be honest with you Wendy I'm still a little shocked at everything that
has happened recently. When the Governor took office and decided to switch out
our law enforcement contract, we down at HOPE (Humanity Opposed to Political
Evasion) thought it was just another attempt to find a scape goat for any faults
during his first term. Here we are, it’s been two and a half years, and crime is
at an all-time high despite the end of the tempo riots. Gang violence hasn't
been this high since back in '53. The switch over cost the tax payers millions
and what we want to know from the Governor is simply this, 'What is Knight
Errant doing to be considered an asset over Lonestar?' and 'Why is Brackhaven
refusing to comment on the current crime spree?' In times of crisis we need to
know our government is there for us."

"All interesting points there Drake, while I can't speak for all of NewsN..."

"Well I'll answer the first one of those right now Wendy. The switchover wasn't
just costly for the taxpayers. A decent chunk of the bill got passed over to
KE also. Part of our problem with confronting the criminal element of the city
was wrong equipment for the job. Knight Errant has been in the private sector
long enough to make running a city feel like a new mission. We're proud to
announce the founding of Knight Errant Armaments, a subsidiary of Ares that
researches and develops armaments and armor for law enforcement as its main
priority. This time next month, every officer on the street will be armed with
a brand new load out designed to take out any scumbag in the city that puts a
hard working taxpayer’s life at risk. As for Brackhaven, he hired us to take care
of the crime spree and that includes the physical and political messes caused by
it."

"Well if you're going to be answering the questions tonight Hans, what can you
tell us is being done about the rampant corruption in your company? Our sources
tell us you can't take a piss in a KE office without splashing it on three rats
and a mole. And how has the Marcus Simms trial been developing?"

"The Marcus Simms incident was unfortunate for everyone involved, but we have no
reason to think that it was the targeted attack that the media is claiming. All
of the officers involved are on suspension and even if it was intentions, their
are rotten apples in every organi..."

The camera statics out as an explosion roars through the speakers, and just as
the view begins to tilt the connection goes black. Error 404: Channel Not Found.

After ten seconds the scene lights back up to a VR version of the NewsNet set pops
up. The avatar of an aging orc sits in Wendy's place. "It is with great
satisfaction that I announce, the trial of Knight Errant has begun. A new age has
arrived for Seattle."
Error 404: Channel Not Found.

Ten more seconds and the original signal comes back on line. This time the NewsNet
set is in shambles. Light fixtures hang from the ceiling, walls are bowed in and cracked,
and a disheveled Wendy Lane is holding the camera staring out of your screen. “This is
Wendy Lane from NewsNet reporting live from our Downtown offices. A bomb just ripped
through our building leaving at least three confirmed dead, Senior Chief Hans Ellis among
that toll and Jameson Drake is clinging to life. We’ll return after this short break.”

[This is just some general background for 2073 in Seattle in the campaign, along with the NewsNet
report from earlier this week that everyone is still talking about.]

I don't mind using Invisible Castle, I'll look into it more tomorrow. It seems very easy to hack the results you want from first glance, but thats probably just the computer scientist in me. On that note, anyone interested in playing, just post your characters here in the thread when you create them.

What's the effects of the Born Rich or Restricted Gear qualities? Or are they banned entirely?

As for Invisible Castle: I' really advice using it. I'm not against GM doing rolls for players that are done behind the screen or to speed things up; but if you make sure that all players use an Invisible Castle account and always roll using their character's name and describing the roll, it's really easy to spot cheaters by just trying the character name in the search box. (That is, unless they actually hack the website, but that seems going a bit far.)

There is no restricted gear quality for the campaign. As for Born rich, it will just increase the number of points you can spend on money by 10 (so 40 total).

Can I have a Changeling (SURGE 2) with Shiwa Arms + Fangs, Extravagant Eys (Yellow) + Striking Skin Pigmentation (Blue, full body)?

I thought, since we already have a ghoul another freak won't mind.

I agree with Chrona, I would much rather make make my own rolls. I mean not for the secret do-you-notice-it-or-not roll but otherwise it makes me feel like I control the fate of my character a bit more.

I'm willing to play.  I have a troll gilette with the restriction you mention ready to go, but I can whip up something else as well.  I have a couple of adepts that are easily retooled (mostly take away the high rating weapon focus).  Something else (like a mage) is also possible, but then I might need a couple of days to get the background correct (I actually should work at work from time to time, or so they keep telling me)  :o  :o .

I'm a little surprised that some of the more useful PbP features aren't integrated with the forums, like dice rolls, collapsible text, selective member text, etc.  Guess I got spoiled over at Myth-Weavers (even though we only used them as a home base for running skype games).

I've thrown a little spit and polish onto what I'd be interested in playing (haven't really addressed any rules as of yet though).  Still-unnamed-guy is a street level corporate disaffected.  He worked as an industrial security guard and maintenance technician for Marigold Private Security back in '68-'69, mostly warehouse jobs with very little action and excitement, in fact the most exciting thing he'd ever done on the job was call in to Lone Star.  When Lone Star announced the acquisition of MSP in September of '69, Still-unnamed thought life was about to get a whole lot better for him, better pay, better assignments, a real corporate gig.  That's when Knight Errant won the city security contract.

It didn't take long for the other shoe to drop.  Lone Star had taken ownership of MSP and had just lost their largest security customer in the region.  The corp was downsizing and when you squeeze a pear, it's the bottom that falls out.  With fresh purchases and a nicer apartment quickly burning away his cred, new blood from out-of-town Knight Errant types flooding the market, and a bitter resentment of both KE and Lone Star, unnamed did what could be done to struggle through the next few years, staying honest with his clean, UCAS SIN to protect.

It's likely been about 2 years since the bottom fell out, and times have been lean.  Lean enough where it was time to reach out to an old friend from back in the MPS days and inquire about a little work under the tables and in the shadows...
