Hey runners! Haven't been on in a bit! Anyways my groups back together and we're in Cuba in a rebel group trying to bring communism back cuz we like totalitarianism from dictators not corps. I digress my character is an explosives/blunt object affectionado(sorry can't spell that) Well in our slums I'm going to have to steal alot of household chemicals and crap so I was wondering what different ways there are to make "bombs" in game. As well as ways for my character to explain to authorities why he has a bat all the time. Missed you guys!

If you're looking for illicit info on making booms, the Anarchist's Cookbook is the last place you should be looking. That thing has so much wrong information it's not even funny.

it is "real"
don't trust any of the information.
and it's usually virus ridden as well.
but it gives you an idea of what's possible.
at least in shadowrun . .

for the baseball bat moonlight in the minor (amateur) leagues as a mentally retarded player with one hell of a batting average (idiot savant?). the trick is to be stupid enough to be considered harmless when encountered on the street, and just good enough at hitting fastballs that the locals take notice (locals only, no scouts).

If he has the proper knowledge skills, contacts, etc. Then you can wing the particulars as long as you can articulate what you're trying to do.

If you're a blunt objects afficionado and like playing with explosives, then you need to watch this

In game, you'll need:
A) Demolitions skill
B) Contact for explosives (I recommend someone either in the construction industry or standard military contact for grenades and such)
C) If GM approves, Arsenal has all the Chemistry info you need to know to create advanced explosives compounds yourself (it's p.78 onwards in the old book, don't know if it's different in the recently released update)
D) Also if GM approves, Arsenal has all the demolition info you need to know (it's p.85 onwards in the old book, don't know if it's different in the recently released update)

All the more reason for homebrewed 'plosives.  They're not that hard to make, just make sure you have a steady hand and no built-up static electricity.

Why is that an issue?

If it's a 300-point game, then everyone's still starting with the same BP, so just make the PC how you see fit.

I tend to be kinda general in explosive composition and design of devices.  Just give out a guideline of its stable, but don't shock it too bad or it may react badly, and a general description of its physical appearance.  Then confirm how powerful they think it is and its detonation source.  Usually reads out like, you secured the gallon gas can contained device to the 55 gal drum of fert/explosive and armed it with the remote detonator and left the contact trigger active.  Now a hard jolt will blow it sky high.  When you remote control the forklift out into the armored limo it will explode with enough force to slice it half like a sandwich.  I deal with some overly detail loving tech heads and if you let them actually start playing build a better mousetrap with explosives I may lose a whole night staring a new drafts of this pet project.  So as a suggestion give it some set piece drama and move on in story.  Give it respect but keep them going.

The explosives expert sags from his protracted efforts and gives the thumbs up to the rigger who starts to slowly roll it into position.  Where do you want it?
