An ork that used to be a street level enforcer and recently became a P.I. Unfortunately, he's not that good in the P.I. line of work, so he's taken up running to pay off his debts.

Name: Johnny Q. Smithers
Alias: Lucky McGee
Race: Human
Sex: Ork
Nationality: UCAS/Seattle
Lifestyle: Squatter
Karma Spent: 0
Physical Description: A thugish looking ork with slight itallian features
managing to peak through. Lucky wears his black hair slicked back into a
ponytail. Lucky stands around six and a half feet tall and his 290 pounds is
blantantly muscle. Lucky wears a suit from the current steampunk fashion line
that mixes steampunk into the old 20's mobster style. He almost always keeps a
pair of darkened shades on.
Personality/background: Born on the streets, Lucky has managed to make
a nice niche in the world for himself by playing himself up as dumb muscle.
Until recently he worked as a bouncer at local clubs along the edges of barrens.
He has recently decided to take up a job as a Private Investigator/Bounty Hunter
but after three months of barely making ends meet he decided on another route.
He took out a lone from a local mobster and got enough ware put in him to be
competitive and hit the shadows, hoping to make enough to pay back his lone,
then retire some place nice.

I think this is a pretty good character, I have some suggestions but for the most part he looks solid.

1) I would reconsider your strategy for meleeing a little bit - Subduing is a very good option, because it starts by taking people out of the fight and then you can do large amounts of damage (10S in your case). For just hitting people, I would be using Shock Gloves. Bone Density Augmentation helps you with neither of these, and I would suggest dropping that and buying a Personalized Grip Shock Glove (100Y more for +1 to hit). I would also change Arnis de Mana to get yourself two of the +1 with subduing attacks styles. Alternatively, the two +1 with called shots for DV styles; those help you both in melee and at range and so it's a much less situational investment.

2) Intuition is both far more useful to you than Logic and more thematically appropriate for a street-smart but not book-smart type of guy. I would suggest Intuition 4 and Logic 2. Actually, I would suggest Intuition 5 if you can scrape the points up.

3) I'm not sure that Electronics skill group is doing anything for you. Data Search is not a bad idea, but you don't really have near to enough Hardware dice to do anything useful, and I don't know what you would want with Software or Computer. I would consider just having Data Search, which is the only skill of those four I see a PI really using much.

4) Blowing 2 restricted gears on relatively cheap 'ware makes me sad inside. I would really suggest saving up for those in-game and instead buying more long-term investments. Alternatively, one restricted gear and Move-By-Wire 2 (which is much harder to save up for and is very good).

5) I really don't think Cyberears are worth the investment: you're paying a large amount of money for something marginally better than earbuds. Similarly, you're paying a bunch of nuyen and essence for implanted Ultrasound Vision over just getting it on some goggles for 1/6 the price and no essence.

6) Tailored Pheremones, by contrast, would be a huge boost to you; it's not very expensive for what it does. I would for sure get it.

7) Where's the Ares Lightife from? I'm not sure what that gun does exactly.

8) On your Commlink, you can use Optimization to run better programs (specifically, Empathy Software and Browse) pretty easily and cheaply. It's not too much more money for a quite large bonus. Also, you can use the Commlink Optimization mod for Empathy Software to get another +1. You should also probably buy Browse 6 with Optimization 3; it seems like a really important thing for a PI.

9) A fair number of GMs consider Empathy Software to be cheese; you might want to check if it is kosher with your GM.

10) Pistols and Intimidation both at 3 is wasting karma down the road; I'd start with Pistols 4 and Intimidate 1, then buy Intimidate up later, or scrape up the 8 BP to start with both at 4.

I will second UmaroVI's recommendation for subdual tricks. I've played a Troll face (it was as awesome as it sounds) with some really sick Jiu-Jitsu.
Not a single opponent ever got out of my grasp. Unless you critically glitch on your subduing roll, you should be gravy and instantly lock down one bad guy.

I realize that move by wire packs a lot of goodness into a nice package, but I personally prefer wired reflexes. I understand the pros and cons of each.
This is just personal opinion and I only mention it as a way to free up some nuyen.

UmaroVI, Ares Lightfire 70 is a light pistol on pg. 21 of Arsenal. It has a special silencer that is more concealable than normal.

Otherwise, I love the PI concept. It is one I am going to be playing, if my game will ever get off the ground.

Ah, now I found it.

Okay, it's a perfectly reasonable gun to own. I would also suggest picking up a Yamaha Sakura Fubuki and keeping it loaded with Stick-and-shock. That way you have the Warhawk for blowing holes in drones/vehicle or for murdering people, the Light Fire for silencer, and the Yamaha for taking people alive.

Thanks for the ideas. I changed for some of them, but a lot of them were more concept choices than efficiency choices.

Bone Density Augmentation 2 is .6 essence, not .9.
