working on my first character, i've been using SR4 CharGen By DaisyBox
any and all advice ideas crit etc is welcome and needed  ;D

please help me maximize my killing potential  ;)

moved to kuai to learn of heritage and find his mother who he finds had died of cancer years before, while learning to surf gets a call from best bud Jonni saying father was killed in the california freestae while on a mission, and that the killer is reported to stay in seatle
kai makes a trip witha vendeta to kill his father's killer
code named One Eyed Frank of the Ciarniello Familiy
a Cyclops boutny hunter and assassin
upon arrival, he finds that the killer is supposedly been wacked himself, with nothing else to do, and no way to return home (having spent the remander of his funds tricking out his arsenal, like the vane harijuku kid he is), he joins up with a bounty hunter and his companion, and begins work in the seedy under world, killing for sport and profit, until he can gain a lead on who ordered his fathers assasination

If your goal is to maximize your killing potential, you don't want to be a pure adept; you want to be an Augmented adept. Before I offer any more detailed advice, do you want to restrict yourself to pure adept for stylistic reasons?

Right now you are not getting enough benefit out of Blades to make them worthwhile - you're still best off shooting people, even if they are at close range. Do you want to use swords for stylistic reasons? If so, you should really make sure that they are actually useful to you.

Dual wielding as a default ranged combat option is not good. It's a trick you can use sometimes but it isn't something to build around.

You have Pistols skill but the Ingram Smartgun X, which is an Automatic.

Low Logic doesn't really hurt you, although some GMs will not be OK with that. Low Willpower and Intuition sure do though.

I'm assuming you want to stick with Menehune for stylistic reasons, yes? Dwarf is not a good choice if your goal is to just be good at fighting and you don't care about anything else, but I assume you knew that already.

Are you permitted to use Way of the Adept?

Are you permitted to use Martial Arts from Arsenal?

Are you permitted to, and do you want to, use SURGE?

I can't help you with stats, but I have a couple questions about backstory that will hopefully be useful to you in fleshing out your character.

  • Why was he with his father rather than his mother?  It's easy enough for a dad to take off during pregnancy or without even knowing he has a kid, but not exactly easy for a mom.  This means his parents were probably together for at least a while after he was born.  Where were they living? Why did they split up?  How did they decide who would keep Kai?  Was the decision even mutual?
  • Why did his father expect him to be accepted into the Yakuza?  Was he a member himself?  If not, why train his son for them?  Why would a parent set their child up for such a dangerous life (not saying it couldn't happen, just that explaining it will give your backstory some good meat)?

Also, it's Harajuku, not Harijuku :)

When it comes to melee, I go for unarmed.  You can take it anywhere and for adepts it has some awesome powers attached to it.  The only thing you lose out on are weapon focuses but those are so pricey I rarely get them anyways.  So if you want to have a backup combat skill past your gunslinger vibe, I'd go with unarmed combat with the free 2 dice by specializing in a martial art.

The blades I do like for the flair, think the hero from the movie Equilibrium, he was a bad ass gunfu master and sword master……buuuutttt im not to attached, I could easily loose them

Im not super attached to the menehune, I mean It is realy just a side story tid bit, cause we are gaming in Hawaii, but its not important in the least, I could easily change that to if it means a better character, would you suggest and elf, human, ork? And Oni character would be cool

The father took Kai without the mothers knowledge, he is an assassin for the yakuza, and this is the only son he had, but that story may change if I make a change to his race due to the response of the suggestions above
They split up, because of the fact that Ryuu Tenaka (his father) was so insistent on training his son to become an assassin, and that his mother was sick, and unfit to bare him more children, the father was a brutal and cruel man, back in those days, the mother tried to get custody, but Ryuu disappeared with him……she died shortly after before she could go in search of her only son………….later in Ryuu’s life he gained regret and hatred to himself for what he had done, and suggested he go find his mother, not telling him she was sick….right before disappearing himself, on a mission (nature of which is unknown to Kai)
His father expected nothing of the sort, but had foolishly hoped that his son’s incredible skill would be enough to make the yakuza overlook his unfavorable heritage. The Tenaka family have been assassins of some kind for generations, from the Ronin assassins in their origin, with some branches of the family specializing in ninjutsu, fire arms, ect

Dwarves are a very niche race, and for what you are doing, you would mechanically be much better off being an Ork (there's an argument to be made for Elf - it makes you slightly better with ranged weapons but it is a very pricy slightly better).

You really want to use a Way - probably the Warrior's Way. Drop your magic to 5 and then take a way, and you'll end up with more net PP for 15 less points, and it's better longterm too.

For Powers, I recommend Improved Reflexes and Combat Sense, but then Kinesics rather than another combat ability, and drop your Charisma. The reason is that Kinesics is very, VERY efficient - 1 pp of kinesics is worth 20 bp of social skills. Quick Draw is replicated by a martial arts manuever. Rapid Healing is just bad.

Adept is 5, Way is 10, and you really don't want any of the other positive qualities you have. This leaves 20 for other stuff. I recommend Surge II for Metagenic Improvement: Agility and Martial Arts: Pentjak-Silat and Wildcat for +2 with called shots to increase damage. You can use this to always make called shots for -1 to hit and +1 DV, which the martial arts turns into +1 to hit and +1 DV for your first attack every IP. This works with ranged combat too which is nice.

You have only 4 manuevers. Iaijutsu, Off-Hand Training (Blades), and Two Weapon Style are really key. I suggest Riposte for your last one but I could see Disarm or Finishing Move.

Stuff you can cut:

You'll save points by being an ork. 5 body should be livable. You want to soft-cap your agility and reaction (ie, don't pay 25 for the last point). You would like good strength for melee but make sure you have an odd amount.

Athletics is strength-based, and costs as much as strength, so if you want to be good at it more strength > more athletics.

Charisma, use your Kinesics and get away with a low Charisma score. You can also probably have 1(3) etiquette and 1 drive, seeing as you'll have 6 reaction augmented.

Intuition 5 is a good idea. Perception 1 is a good idea too. Willpower 5 is a good idea, Willpower 3 is the lowest I would go.

Gear/general strategy:

Wear good armor and use good weapons. You should be using something that consists of Form Fitting Body armor, one "normal" armor piece, plus PPP to fill yourself up to your 10/10 limit. Use Softweave (from WAR!) if it's allowed.

Monofilament swords are fine for melee. Get yourself ceramic knives too.

Read up on weapon customization in Arsenal. I suggest either:

If you are using pistols, you should probably own some or all of: Yamaha Sakura Fubuki (for Stick-n-shock), Ruger Thunderbolt (for killing people), Morissey Elan (for sneaking past MAD scanners). Chameleon coating is good. Maybe own a Ruger Super Warhawk (modded for SA) or a Eichiro Hatamoto II for blowing up drones/vehicles. Use a pistol in your mainhand and a sword in your offhand for block/riposte, then switch to two swords when people try to melee you.

You could also switch to Automatics, this is a perfectly respectable choice but not necessarily better or worse. Pistols and blades means you are only good at short-range combat, but you are pretty good at sneaking weapons into places.

Either way, the basic idea is that if people are using ranged attacks, you use guns on them because guns do more damage. If people try to melee you - and lots of stuff like spirits and paracritters will want to, some NPCs in the books have an illogical fascination with melee so they might do so too - you switch to dual-wield melee weapons and use Two-Weapon Fighting to attack and full defense at the same time. This makes you do less damage than you could with range attacks, but be very hard for other melee people to hurt.

Pick up a Weapon Focus at force 6 ASAP, but don't start with one (because of availability).

Riposte
A character with Riposte who successfully parries or blocks
a melee combat attack may make an immediate attack on her attacker, even if it is not her Action Phase in the turn. Making a riposte is considered an interrupt action, however, and uses up the
character’s next available action.

You have blade weapons, but unarmed skill. If you want to use unarmed, you should own a Shock Glove and you should be using the Critical Strike power.

Martial arts don't require unarmed - you can use them with swords. Some of the martial arts are designed for weapon use, like Kendo.
