This is my Mage thus far our game starts Sunday.

My main problem is that he is very much average .... and i seek to improve in 1 or more areas. Other then raising stats i am all out of ideas.

Personally, I see nothing wrong in a flexible character who's good in a lot of areas. At my table, he would not be underpowered.

However, he may well be at yours. In which case...

Lower some areas and raise some others. Pick the things you really want to do and concentrate on them.

Without knowing which areas you're willing to sacrifice most its hard to say, but a few suggestions from me...

His Stealth is built more or less entirely around his spells. Lower the Stealth Skill Group by one or two steps. That gives you enough points to put the social group up to 4 and raise attributes if you have spare space. Alternately, raise some other skills/buy gear. Or some foci (a sustaining focus would very much be your friend)

Consider whether you really want Cha 5. I can see the obvious logic, but if you're willing to be a bit less of a face and a bit more vulnerable to drain (consider keying some of your combat spells to go off fetishes), you get a lot of points to bump your attributes with. Agility 5 would be your friend. It increases your Stealth (if you go down this route, bump the group and lower social), blades (15 is nothing to sniff at) and pistol.

Banishing can be sold down the river. You have tons of ways to hurt spirits already.

If you really want to be flexible, for the love of gods pump your attributes as high as possible. I don't think you've done this at a rough guess.

That's just a few ideas. But basically, decide on which parts of him are most important to you, then shuffle things around in the non-important parts to raise them.

I think my advice, just guessing, would be to lower Cha, lower the Stealh group, buy up social one step, raise body to 5 str to 5 agi to 5, dropping banishing if needed, maybe drop logic if needed... possibly some other skills... get fetishes on a couple of combat spells (i.e. the ones you're most likely to want to overcast) - the end result is he's still a passable face, still passable at stealth (due to using agility rather than stealth), and is a bit scary in combat.

The biggest improvement I could see to make would be picking up some foci. At the very least, being able to sustain Increase Reflexes on yourself would be a huge boost to your ability to fight, and the usual force 4 power focus with restricted gear shenanigans would boost all of your abilities (and allow you to lower your Summoning, since at that point you'd be in "summon things bigger than your head" territory).

I agree that hardcapping Charisma isn't worth it.
