My favorite campaigns are the ones where the players dictate the course of the campaign but at the same time, the GM has a few tricks up his/her sleeve and at points throughout or even as a conclusion to the campaign a cool twist or conspiracy or link between the beginning and the end of the campaign is revealed.

I'm wondering if anyone has any unique stories along these lines...I need some inspiration.

Thanks.

The most recent plot was an extention of Food Fight 4.0. The party rescued the girl and the baby from the car bomb attempt and she went on to say that her ex-lover, Marc Cozi, was trying to kill her because the baby is his son. The party does some research and manages to find that Marc is a CFO of an minor actor/actress placement corp and is married to the CEO. He is also loosely tied with the mafia and has been skimming from his work accounts. The girl knows about all of this and says that if the party can get Marc to hand over the accounts, she'll split it with them.

Also, during this research, it's important to know that the girl is left alone, but secure, in a safe house for a few days. Also the party learns that the CEO of this corp, Catherine Cozi, is shrewd, but it's strange that she hasn't caught on about Marc's infidelity.

During the course the game, the group plans to buddy up to Marc, making him think that his mafia ties see him as a liability, and use an air elemental to further cement the idea in Marc that his mafia ties are out to get him. In the after math, the party 'brings' Marc the girl, and then lets the hammer drop that he's been fooled. Marc gives up the account in the Caymans where he has hid 260,000 Y. The girl asks the hacker in the group to confirm that it's all there and legit, which he does. When he confirms it, she pulls out her commlink and says "Found it."

A second later, the party each gets a message on their image links "Kill Marc Cozi. 5,000 Y, Yes or No?" The party, spooked, declines and immediately a shot through the wall nails Marc in between the eyes. The girl is already walking out when the party is stunned. They quickly follow outside to see Catherine Cozi escort the girl into a limo, her driver packing up a sniper rifle... "So about that acting career?". The party is left with whatever Cozi and the mafia goons had on them.

That indeed is a bit epic but i'm afraid it leaves me wondering what exactly happened behind the scenes. Needless to say they did NOT get the money split between her and them right?

Oh, no... the party managed to milk Marc Cozi for 12,000 Y for 'finding and delivering the girl' when the first team from Food Fight 4.0 failed to do so... the girl was working for Ms. Cozi undercover to find where Marc hid the money... The party was left with what they swindled from Marc and a big ?? over their heads
