First Char, lots of advice wanted :D (Troll w/ Wired Reflexes)

Hi Guys,

So, from the subject you can see that this is my first char. I am sure almost everything is wrong with the set up (plus cost and a huge amount of other things have not been taken into account) but as this is my first time playing the game I was hoping for some advice.

What I want to create is a large troll who is crazy fast and does melee damage, pref with blades of some sort but I have a shotgun as a back up.

Please throw as much advice at me and we will see what sticks :D (please be gentle :p)

Ehm... what's with all the free and -90% stuff? Paying for stuff is kind of a must.
Also, look at some of the other builds on this thread to get an idea of the basics. The way you handle skills is quite wrong. You don't need to buy Blades 3 times. You buy the Blades skill once and can add a specialization to one of the different fields, in your case I'd suggest (Swords), this adds dice both when attacking or parrying with the sword.
You need more skills, dodge or athletics are a must. Perception's something you want at least one point in too. A point or two in a ranged weapon (Longarms if you want to use that shotgun) would be advised as well.
Stats are off too I think. Max Agi, Max Rea, Max edge. Costs waaaaayyy to much points.
But for starters, look at other builds in this thread. There's enough melee-based cybered characters in this thread, whether its built into a troll or orc or human, the logic behind it stays the same.

Uhm...the armor suits don't stack, they are from two different sets. And you are missing all the other pieces to it. And I don't know what all the -90% stuff is.

Your licenses don't specify which weapon they apply to.

The smartgun link isn't attached to any of the weapons, as far as I can tell.

You need a LOT more skills. Perception, Dodge, probably pilot groundcraft, a gun skill for when you can't close with your blade, all of the skills in the athletics group to be able to GET the enemy with your blade, and possibly some misc. skills like First Aid for non combat situations. Characters which are too narrow are rarely fun to play. You need Clubs skill for the staff, and Longarms skill for the shotgun. You need Parachuting skill for the two parachutes.

You need knowledges. Based on the build, I think military Operations and Military Security are good ones. Security Design and Combat Tactics are also good choices.

Those Blades entries are specializations of the Blades skill, which adds 2 dice when using that specialty. You only buy the skill once. You may only have 1 skill at 6. You pay 2 BP to add a specialty to the skill. Were you a player of Third Edition?

Your Essence cannot be 5.9 with all of those augments you crammed in yourself. Also, I think the levels of them are too high, and outside the Availability limit of 12. Has your GM given any guidelines or altered the rules on this?

You have no contacts and no backstory. Looks pretty one dimensional. You should flesh that out and THEN worry about crunch.

Your wired reflexes and cyber eyes are both above the maximum starting availability of 12. You have several implants listed more than once (all the others are within availability, but barely). DNA masking, Shuffle is available at start, but the Augmented Healing I believe is done whenever you get medical treatment.

I concur with Mason with the skills he suggested you take, but I am wondering why you hardcapped Reaction and took the 8 Body. I would suggest dropping the Body down to 7 (you'll have the same health boxes as the 8 Body for 10 fewer points) and drop Reaction down to 4 base along with going with a 4 Edge. Doing this will free up 80 build points. After that, it would be a good idea to go for a 3 Willpower and at least 3 in Charisma and Logic preferably a 4 in Intuition (a 3 in a pinch).

I just read the first 2 replies and thought I'd better reply to them and then read the rest :)

The Free stuff and -90% stuff was just me messing around with the Char creator. I am using that program to help me mock up my char. I will be paying for stuff and the GM is going to allow me to get one Aug for free if I can justify it with a very good background (although last time we played another game I tried to justify something else and he said it was not good enough of a story and didnt allow me so its not a given yet :D). I was just messing around with the settings seeing what was what and then just left it as it was when I was done. Its actually got no relevance really.

I'll read the rest now and reply to the comments about the build properly now :)
