I'm about to be starting a new game and one of the players wants to play a hacker.

Now, I have not used the hacking rules before. I read them, and find them slightly incomprehensible. I read about them online, and see tons of people seeing they don't work, that they take up too much time, and all other sorts of encouraging crap.

So I was hoping someone could set me straight. It anyone has some examples of play for using them, I'd be particularly grateful. Or links to common houserules. Anything. Help me out here chummers!

To add to the plea of this topic, it would be great to read an "Average Encounter" with Hacking.

I'm sure Big Peat would appreciate as much as me if someone took the time to do that. Hell i'd be willing to play it out too if necessary just so i can get a better grasp of it.
Having access to Ares Technology isn't so bad, being in a room that's connected to the 'trix with holographic display throughout the whole room isn't bad either. Food, drinks whenever you want it. Over all not bad, but being unable to leave and with a Female Dragon? No Thanks! ~The Captive Man

Check out this website

http://pavao.org/shadowrun/

In the Miscellaneous section he has a downloadable set of example hacking sites.  They're really handy.

Also, check out the Quick Start Rules.  There's a couple very simple hacking examples there.

The Dumpshock Datahaven article is very good, definitely read that one.  Also, make sure you read the story "Game Set Match" from the Shadowrun 4A book.  That story is basically a play-by-play hacking scenario.  Just about every specific action is written into that story besides the dice-rolls the characters made.
