Imo, the class based system shouldn't be removed from Dnd.
To me, saying "I have a level 10 Cleric of Olidamara with 5 levels of rogue" IS part of DnD.
Fully agree with that  8)

Can you build the character that you want with DnD multi-classing?

Yes, but it takes more work and I always end up with clutter that I wasn't looking for in the first place. I would much rather grab the combination of skills/feats/weapons/armor that I want from the start...without the headache of trying to shoehorn my character concept into pre-designed templates. Make it as fast as possible and give control to the players to create a character that they want to play.

Would it still be DnD?

I think the question is...does it matter? If it works and people are happy with it...I don't see a problem. That is just my opinion though.
It's not the one with your name on it; it's the one addressed "to whom it may concern" you've got to think about.

i'm relatively new to the dnd scene, as i've only played 4e, but i'd say that a classless system wouldn't be dnd anymore imo. but if they just improved the hybrid class system, so that it actually worked for example, that would maintain the dnd feel while giving players the freedom to make that mage-rogue that throws flaming shuriken from behind an illusory wall. also, iirc, a wizard who is good with a sword is called a Spellsword, and its a possible class in 4e...

Yes, John, and that is why there is GURPS.

Let's look at it from another perspective. What if someone decided that in SR5, they'd get rid of the current system, and go to a class-based system? Sure, you could still make your rigger, or samurai, or technomancer, or mage, or... But would it really be Shadowrun? Any system that has been around for decades will have a few things that just ARE that system. Class is one of those things in D&D. Another (used to be) the Vancian magic system, and you had better believe that caused a MASSIVE drekstorm when it was revealed that they were getting rid of it in 4e.

There were two third party books for D&D that covered that, actually. Encyclopedia Arcane: Nymphology, and the Book of Erotic Fantasy.

I'd figure out a way to rage quit a role-playing game.

Ever heard of a game called Unknown Armies? It has LITERAL Pornomancers who get power from re-enacting magic porno tapes. They also have one of the weakest blasts but one of the most undetectable. Not a class based system but it's one of the schools of magic available.

I personally just say "Pink Frosting" and all the PCs get up and leave the GM alone at the table.

I miss Ravenloft

I concur.... That's why I hang out on one of the only Ravenloft forums left on the web. :P

Though I got plenty of the books, and play it about once a month. :D Ah.... good old Evil, Terror, and Darklords.

BEF actually had some wicked spells that I did use. Especially combining the one that made you a sex addict with the one that made orgasms deal 10d6 damage
