So, simple question: Roughly how much in the way of Karma and Net-Worth* would a successful Runner have by the time they've retired?

Or, in the case of guys like Bull, what's your running total so far?  ;D

*Installed 'ware, Guns, Armor, Foci, purchased Lifestyle, Drones and, of course, cash.

Based on the Public awarness and street creed, a shadowrunner with ~300 points of karma is almost known by everybody.
(Total karma 300 /10 for street cred + no notoriety) /3 = PA>10

It is amazing to compare to 2nd edition where based on reputation a runner would have achieve 1000 karma.

I think it would be a pretty large range. Retirement just means you stop working, it's not an indication of skill level. For instance, you can create a standard 400 BP character and deck him out to be a grizzled old runner with a lot of jobs under his belt who's planning on retiring soon. Most retired runners don't end up as street legends. Your average runner will probably retire once he amasses ~ $650,000, which is enough for a permanent medium lifestyle for a family of four. Add gear, implants, vehicles, etc into that and you can round off on an even million.

Then you get the crazy bastards like Fastjack who can easily afford to retire and probably should, but keep hacking away anyway because they love what they do and they're extremely good at it. The old fart probably has over 1000 karma. Or Warren Buffet in real life, who just reached octogenarian status and is a multibillionaire, but runs his business anyway because there's nothing else he'll rather do. Then again, being a CEO of a company usually doesn't involve getting shot at on a daily basis, so you probably don't see many 80 year old shadowrunners running around.

As a rule of thumb, you can always take a tip from Missions, which "retires" characters at the 150 karma mark.

In my experience (mainly Missions Season 2-3 at TR 6 and CMPs), pay tends to run in the 9000-12000Y a run range per mission and 5 karma per run.  Every once in a while, there will be huge reward* that can push pay for that run to around 20000Y.

Thus with Mission's retirement cap of 150 karma, our group's characters expect to make between 300,000-400,000Y.

*- Typically it's some sort of expensive 'lootable' item or paydata.  Every once in a while, you get paid twice over an adventure.

Good info, everyone. Thanks for the input!

I guess the question was a bit poorly phrased, but I think I got what I wanted to know out of it... since my understanding of Missions is you retire at the end of the Season where you hit 150 Karma, and they can still take "Prime Runner" gigs, the numbers match up pretty well for your typical Runner.
