Hello everyone!
This is the OOC for Broken Eggs (as the title suggests)
The players are
Wretch
Specter Zero
Sichr
Halancar

Lets all introduce ourselves.
I've been gaming for around 15 years, mostly being a DM. I've always liked shadow run but never grabbed any of the books till 4th edition. I've run 3 different "campaigns" about 15 sessions total in shadow run, but mostly vanilla with people I dragged from Dungeons and Dragons. I was part of a play by post shadow run game on another forum, and this is my first time running one. I am not very experienced with the Astral plane, but I love hacking, but prefer to give excuses for the hacker to come along. I have recently acquired the PDF's for many of the extra books, and I've read through them, but I have not seen most of it in action. I will ask you guys about parts of your character and how it works, I don't want to deny you your shiny toys, but I want to be able to A) Use them to great effect B) Know how I can counter them. If I'm being pushy or an asshole let me know, I do much of my posting right before/after I go to bed, and I don't mean to offend anyone.

Things I want to happen in this campaign:
Show how a person goes from shady individual to a shadow runner, and the level of paranoia that may or may not involve.
The joy of getting new toys!
Hacking!

Things I want to avoid:
Lots of Magic - Frankly I'm bad at adjudicating it and I'm never sure exactly how useful/not the Astral plane is. The less mages, the less headache :)

So, what about yourselves?

Hello !

I've been gaming for around 15 years too, although only very occasionally as a DM. A little bit of everything, including previous editions of Shadowrun. I'm reasonably adept with the magic rules (and I like magic !), as long as we leave the Metaplanes alone, but even looking at the Hacking rules make my head ache, and I haven't even tried to make sense of the rules for technomancers.

Things I'd like to see in the campaign:
- Character progression (shady individual to shadow runner would suit me fine).
- Sneaky runs, the ones that remind us that we are playing shadowrunners and not trigger-happy mercenaries.

Things I'd like to avoid:
- Hacking :) Well, not really, I'm fine with it, as long as nobody expects me to be the one doing it ;)

As for character, I believe I could build a 'limited' mage with only a few straightforward spells to keep things easy (because it's nice to have someone with a Heal spell around), or if Forged would rather not I could play a sneaky mundane.

Hi there everybody!

I've been gaming for around 17 years, I've played more than my fair share of genres. I even have DM'd when the need is there. I am pretty fluid to most gaming styles, as I have seen a lot of them. I have played the previous edition of Shadowrun as well as a little 4th edition.

Things I'd like to see in the campaign:
Hacking- I am a big fan of hackers/deckers.
Unique and varied NPC's- I hate cookie cutter NPC's, make me want to remember them.

Things I'd like to avoid:
Power Gaming/Munchkinism: been there done that.

As for a character I said in the other Forum Thread, I would like to play either a Sprawl Ganger or a Hacker. Though I would prefer the Hacker.

Sichr, any opinions on what you want to see? likes or dislikes?

Either way we have the beginnings of a team here. For this run I wanted this to be a first run for most if not all of your characters. You may have been doing various illegal things before, but this is the first time you have had work for a Mr. Johnson.

If I got this right, Halancar wants to be a mage, and is willing to keep it simple for me :)
Simple Zero wants to run a Hacker
Sichr wants to be some form of investigator, possibly an adept.
Wretch sent me a character sheet while I was still recruiting.... It's a man with a heavily Cybered Arm and eyes with some tricked out guns. Fairly safe to call it a street samurai.

Of course nobody is stuck with that. Just recapping to keep my thoughts clear.

Other that figuring out character roles, does anyone want to be connected? What is making your characters walk the shadow. Where do you stand morally? I'm ok if two characters not get along, but I'm not forcing two completely incompatible people together. The other thing I want to learn is how your characters name got to the Johnson, do you have a fixer? Are you just friends with another guy who couldn't take the job? did the guy you buy guns for hear of work?

Also, what do you think of other peoples character ideas?

Well, it looks like a fairly balanced team. Here's what I have in mind for my mage, let's call him Mist (short for Mr. Mistoffelees, not that anyone on the street would get the reference, probably including Mist himself :) ).

Mist is a young (17) male human who grew up on the streets of Seattle. He graduated from child beggar to petty thief to cat burglar, and is now ready to make the jump to shadowrunner (which in his mind is like cat burglar, but with targets actually worth stealing from).

Physically Mist is on the small and lean side, a result of his childhood diet (or, often, lack of), with brown eyes and dark hair. His skin is a shade darker than normal for 'white', hinting at some Hispanic or possibly Native American blood. Or maybe it's just the result of spending most of his time outdoors for most of his life, but Mist himself likes to think he has some Native American ancestry.

At 14 Mist Awakened. Cat came to him in dreams, hinting at new ways to acquire toys and food. Cat did not explain any of them beyond dropping hints and sometimes gracing Mist with an unasked gift of invisibility or silence, but eventually Mist figured some of the tricks out, and found more tangible guidance in the form of a friendly Street Shaman, to the point that is now has a small but solid repertoire of spells. Mist, however, hasn't figured the tricks of summoning spirits yet, and does not know what to make of the astral.

Morally, Mist is of the 'anything that is not nailed down belongs to me, and anything I can pry out with a crowbar isn't nailed down' school of morality. He's vigorously opposed to physical violence, but that's because in his experience it always goes badly for him, not a moral statement.

Mist brings to the table decent* B&E skills, both mundane and magical, and a small list of street contacts. He excels* at Illusion spells, but is fairly useless in an actual fight beyond distracting the opponents with illusions. He is also fairly lucky. Mist comes from the streets, and has little in the way of expensive equipment.

As for what brings him to the attention of the Johnson, as a long-time runner of the shadows, Mist does have a fixer among his other shady contacts.

* 'decent' and 'excel' are meant to be understood in the context of a well-rounded, non-optimized build, where 8 dice is decent and 12 is excellent ;)

You are correct in theory but I view him as more of a sneaker than shooter, but he is able to handle himself when things go badly.  Also I don't think he has any snowflake tendencies,

Some things about me I have been gaming for 20+ years, wow I am old, but I am very new to the PbP and I haven't done much role playing for several years.  I played SR 1st edition but I am very new to SR 4, consequently I lean towards pretty straight forward characters, from a rule perspective.  (hence a street samurai).  It also means I can't min/max because I have no idea how to do it.

Please feel free to let me know me about the rules, online etiquette or anything else.  Also I travel for work extensively and often have to post from either my smart phone or tablet so my responses/posts may be short because of input method rather than a lack of willingness to be more detailed or role play extensively. (obviously I am in my home office today and can type away.)

Looking forward to the game.

Sichr, any timeframe for when you will be back?
Also it looks like we are going to have a fairly sneaky group, this will be interesting. Unless anyone has any objections, I'm going to create a google doc for listing PC's and NPC's so I can web out relationships.

Remember for character creation 400BP + (cha X 2) BP worth of free contacts.

I now need to go review the rules for stealth etc.

Mist hails from Touristville, in the Redmond district.

I've sent a char sheet to the Google Docs folder, for the GM perusal...

I'm updating the Docs with the characters, I've also gotten a request for a fifth teammate, who I'm letting in, Welcome Snow!

As a note, I know nothing of the actual layout of seattle, are you guys referencing specific books? or is this just role-play?
