The main rulebook says that befriending a hacker or an AI would be the reason, but do you guys have other ideas as to why your character would be erased? Just a glitch in the system, a high-tech program stolen/accidentally liberated from a government, the character's own 1337 hacking skills or whatnot?

The main question is (which you might guess if you have watched the other threads I have made asking stuff), what if you don't want your character to have friends that are powerful in this manner? Or can't find a logical reason for it? Since roleplaying games tend to get very bad if people forget the "role" aspect of playing, and just take whatever has the best stats (As in, everyone taking identical weaponry due to it being the best, or taking the Erased aspect so you don't have to worry about stuff much.). I want a good reason for my character to be Erased, and not just have it because I like it rule-wise.

Well for the most part, its going to be up to your GM to approve anything you come up with. It has to fit in the world and every GM's world is a little different. Sometimes they differ significantly just between campaigns.

As for the erased, It doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with you necessarily. Maybe you are almost always in the same area as another person who is being erased (either through the efforts of some higher plot or by completely comical coincidence). Maybe you character physically is very close in appearance to a celebrity or other entity that wishes to remain unknown who has friends erasing them (and erasing you as well thinking its them), possibly opening up the Evil Twin flaw as an option as well (or maybe you're just their evil twin). Maybe you're being targeted for recruitment by an agency that is erasing records so that they will have an unknown agent (and blackmail info on you if you refuse).

Without really knowing the whole character background, I can't really offer anything too specific.

Well, the reason I am asking IS to make a background for my character, I was thinking of something on the line of former secret government agent/cyborg/whatnot who was being erased all the time, but when she defected/escaped/whatnot, she managed to get the sourcecode/program/whatnot that was doing the erasing for her with her, meaning that she was able to keep being erased, and is also one of the reasons why the government/corp hasn't caught her yet?

Be sure to take the "Records on File" Neg.Quality and either Wanted (if they're being open about wanting your head), Enemy, or something similar to represent the way they're after you. ;)

That could work.

During Crash 2.0 the Global SIN Registry was compromised. The corps and governments lied and said it was always safe, but people disappeared off the grid anyway. All you need is patience, and connections (to hackers and to get the hardcopies, as well as keeping people forgetful of your existence). Erased isn't perfect. Even FastJack can't keep all data on him off the grid, but he tries like Hell to the point that I'd say he has that Quality.

In your PC's case, they could carry the sweeper with them, or it could be that the program was shut down and the people who were pursuing the PC are going out of their way to ensure that there is no evidence that it ever happened; not necessarily that they want to bother hunting down the PC (their freedom can be valuable for gathering "field experiment" data), but that they'll give a cursory look if she pops up on the grid while covering evidence of her behind them because no one wants to be holding the bag when the game stops.

I've got two players with this quality, both for very different reasons.

Player A is has Jane-in-the-Box, a world class hacker, as a high rating contact and they are both secretly working as an agent for a certain Dragon. (campaign is set in the 2050s).  Jane is his handler.  They keep his 'illegal' dealings off line, but he still maintains a legal sin and identify as a PI who does a lot of work for Lone Star and KE.  In return, he files anything he discovers with Jane (regardless of what his co-runners may feel about sharing Mr Johnson's info) and does the odd favour for his boss when on a run.

Player B is a shapeshifter escaped from Aztecnology who had plains to make him a vessel for a powerful blood spirit.  They are hunting him, but in the mean time, are also erasing traces of his appearance when he shows up.  They don't want anyone knowing he exist or getting in their way while they hunt him down.  In this case, the character is sinless, and its his enemies who are keeping him off the radar.  However, they are keeping records of everything he does so that they can hunt him down.

Records on File does look like a good choice. Wanted too... I'd take Cranial explosives too, but the problem is that... Thinking logically, she has gone renegade now. Why not just blow her head off?

Because now she can be used with plausible deniability.
