Which one do you think would be the better choice, game-wise? They kinda fit the same kind of character almost equally well, I think. As in, a street Samurai that sets his mind into battle as soon as it begins and finds it hard to stop until the deed is done, or considers every person who picks a fight with him or insults him as a personal enemy?

Personally, I think I would choose Combat Monster. I think Vindictive would be better for someone who would be in a gang or with low self-esteem...

I'd go with Vindictive myself. Combat Monster just isn't worth the points considering that you're pretty much boned if you ever get in over your head in a fight that's too much for you.

But Vindictive might also be used by a GM to draw me into those fights, and then say that I can't leave due to already having failed in that test of mine?

Well, the roleplaying is in going "If we weren't in public, drek-head, I'd dump a clip into you fragin' skull right here an' now. Next time I see you, you're dog-meat," because you really, really want to blow that snide asshole's head off his shoulders, but you know you'd be screwed if you did.

Besides, as best I can recall, Vindictive doesn't actually specify immediate revenge. Could always involve breaking into the guy's house later and Black Vaning him for a session with Mr. Pliers and Mr. Box Knife.

Vindictive is funny. Our Ninja keeps a list of everybody whoever wronged him.About 4 out 5 team mates are on the list by now in addition to several obvious enemies and contacts.

Combat Monster I don't like. Got a PC almost killed once, because sometimes there's only retreat. We had to disable and carry him.

I gotta agree, I don't think the trigger for your PSC issues would ever be considered peaceful enough for buying hits. Sure higher stats mean a higher chance of success, but it should never be automatic.

I am sorry to need to ask but, which book are these from?  All I have is the anniversary edition as far as actual game books are concerned.

As for the qualities themselves, I like Combat Monster more. I've taken it with Iceblade when I've played him elsewhere, before. Shark lends itself to that attitude.

I figured it was that.  I plan on picking it up through drivthrurpg soon.  I'm not lucky enough to have a local place that has RPGs, so I got all my stuff from drivthrurpg.   
It's sad because the place used to at least have some D&D set up and sold some dice.  Now there are just a couple D&D books (not as much) and some d6s.
