you could take the money you need for that to buy you a couple of acres of land somewhere quiet and live the rest of your life without having to work anymore.

IRL: I want one.  The amount of diving gear I can put on a boat like that.  Go from diving place to diving place.  Sounds like fun.  :)

That would be hellaciously expensive.

I'm told the going rate for luxury yachts is in the vicinity of one million US dollars per foot of overall length IRL, and I don't expect that to change in the Sixth World. Here's a bargain for you:

Project Mars - 295ft for only ~150,000,000USD, staff of 34, will accommodate up to 15 guests.

Here's one in a similar price range, but better suited to those of an ecological bent (or those who realise that sails don't actually generate much of a radar return):

The Maltese Falcon is 88m long, crew of 16, will "seat" 12 guests. Currently charterable IRL for 375,000 Euro per week, sans taxes, food and fuel.

Would you like to learn more?

As a runner, the thing that would worry me is less the start-up cost - as a once-in-a-lifetime score, ~100 Meganuyen is conceivable - but the ongoing costs for crew and maintenance. I'm sure the people chartering out the Falcon make a tidy profit on her. Still . . . annual cost for that boat is probably north of a million.

And you just know that the GM willl immediately dust off everything naval warfare-related he's ever read.

not to mention the fact that those types of yachts look quite unstable, especially those with the mega pools in them.  A bit of a rough sea and you go down.  I wouldn't want to take some of those yachts through the Columbia Bar towards Seatle.

There is a reason to have this sort of thing, and it shows up mechanically in earlier editions of Shadowrun.  When you're dealing with a friend, negotiations are easier.  When you're making deals involving multimillion nuyen transactions, every little bit of advantage goes a long way.  Convince the client that you are their friend and you get much better deals.

Moreover, a yacht like that convinces mostt that you're a friend worth having, making them easier still.

There are some new yachts on the market since the last reply.

To give an example: this is about the size of a Ticonderoga-class Aegis cruiser.

Makes for a hell of a place to have a meet. Though usually it's the Johnson that's supposed to have that much money.

Remind me, what are the laws in regard to International Waters in the Sixth World again?
