Hank woke up to the sound of his commlink. Damnit, he thought, why can't this thing beep louder? Quickly, he toggled the link. "Yes? Oh, hey, Cherry."
"Hank, you look horrid." Cherry grinned impishly at him.
"And you're as charming as ever, Cherry. What's up?"
"Well, are you still looking for work? I've heard of a job that you could probably help out on, if you hurry..."
"Cherry, you know me. What's the job? And what do you mean, hurry?"
Cherry smiled. "I don't know much. But word is there's some stuff needs... remodeling. And by hurry, I mean you need to get your sleepy ass down to Porter's five minutes ago. I've been trying to comm you for half an hour!"
"Damn. I swear I need to get this link checked. Hopefully the pay's good--I haven't had a good run in a while. Thanks, sweetheart." Hank switched off the commlink quickly, but not before seeing the shock that flickered across the girl's face. Tweaking Cherry was always good for a chuckle.
Heading for the door, Hank slipped the Ingram's sling over his shoulder, and then pulled on a light jacket. No sense in walking around unarmed. Ten minutes later, he entered the bar. Porter glanced up at him. "Cherry said you had work." Porter nodded, then stuck his thumb out towards a table at the back. Hank thanked him, grabbed a beer, and slipped behind the curtain and into a seat. Hopefully he'd be able to pick up what he'd missed.
Edit: Fixed what Hank grabbed from the bar. Bears are fun and all, but I don't think they appreciate being grabbed.
