vinnmun: unless you have to make a driving test, that's ok. If you do need to make a test there will be negative modifiers to both actions.

BigGuns: Your move, but keep in mind the elf can interrupt you. Sorry, no increased reflexes unless you mention it beforehand!

Both tasks require your full concentration, so both!

Generally you won't need to be making driving tests though, so I don't see this as being a problem unless you plan to compile during a high-speed chase.

Hey vinnmun: for next time, sprites don't typically use their edge to help you out (at least that's the rule with spirits, and I'm going to guess it applies to sprites too). I'll assume that you charmed the hell out of this particular sprite, this time. However, the next data sprite you summon might get a little uppity!

orlly....that makes sense. Do you have a page reference for that. I've done that with my other games as GM, and never came across that but it's kewl.

Also form the sounds of things, my target is in jail and his brother is out and about. Is that what I'm getting at?

Street Magic, p. 95: "...a magician cannot compel a spirit to use (or not use) Edge on a given test."

As I said, that's just the rule for spirits, but I'm guessing it applies to sprites too. The reasoning is that spirits have free will. I think sprites are generally a little less willful and more eager to please than spirits are, but since I can't find anything about it in the books I'm going to play them by the same rules as spirits.

Your target has been arrested, but he's not in jail now (the spirits implied that he's been staying at home). The news clippings are all old, not current--sorry if that was unclear.

I would assume the same thing than with sprites aswell. But at the sametime....who would really get to decide on the edge use...GM? I should look that up or ask in the rules forum.

Thnx for clarification

Page 95 of Street Magic offers some guidelines: spirits generally use edge to protect themselves, or to further their own goals, or if they hate the magician who's summoning them. The GM generally makes the decision, though I suppose a persuasive character could ask a spirit to "try his hardest" or something. Let me know if you can figure anything out. As far as I can tell, there is zero mention of edge as it pertains to sprites in the rules.

Man... I wrote up a huge post in reply to everyone in IC, but for some reason this stupid work computer keeps logging me out. So I lost the whole thing. Gonna go re-write it now.

oh noes!!! I hate when that happens. I write it on notepad and than transfer it onto this sometimes.

So I am inclined to agree with what you have come up with since most rules that spirits have are used the same way for a sprite. I've found that register spirits need to make an edge roll and meet or beat a 3 if a technomancer goes out for it to be free....but that was it.

I figured it might be handy to obviously indicate astral communication, so I picked the glow formatting. Seems appropriate. Also, I've not played with a mentor spirit before, so do they just hang around the magician or are they more like free spirits with a connection to the character?

"Mentor spirit" is actually sort of a misnomer, since they're not really spirits like the ones you summon, or free spirits. They are basically the same as totems in SR3--it's a mythical concept that guides the magician. So talking to a mentor spirit is more like prayer than communication.

The point is, there's no way Phoenix can help you get laid  :P. But, it is possible that other followers of Phoenix hanging out on the astral would be willing to help you out, if you can find them...

Oh! Just re-read the description of mentor spirits: "The gamemaster can use a mentor spirit as a tool to communicate information to the magician and enhance roleplaying. Mentor spirits provide cryptic clues, riddles, omens, and sometimes even straightforward advice." Give me a little while, I will come up with something  8)

Okay, I know it says cryptic but I can't even begin to understand what that meant, if anything :P Any clues or can I roll for something?
