Not a Newbie, per se, but rather a returning player.  Got the old band back together as it were, and we wanted to restart play where we left off eons ago.  One of the players in my group had used the "Original" Troll Street Samurai from the 1st ed Street Samurai book as the base of his character.  This is an attempt to (re)make the original archetype, more or less, then apply the earned Karma from back in the day.

What do ya'll think of Basilisk, a Troll Sam originally from the Tir who had to relocate north when it got too hot for him.

For whatever reason Chummer lists his Unarmed damage as 9s, with 9p physical damage from his bone lacing, but by math with Boxing he should do 11p damage unarmed.

Am I missing anything?

Background - Troll from Portland, was an olympic boxing hopeful for the 2064 Olympics, but got drafted.  Ended up leaving the military with a dishonorable for fighting, because he was pissed he missed chance at Olympics.  Later on did a couple years on a B&E charge at the Super Max outside of Medford. 

Personality - If his fists can't deal with it, then better get the big guns.  Kinda one dimensional, but  - we're talking about  a Troll Street Sam here.

He will have about 68 karma and 220K nuyen to spend after creation - which is what he had accrued during play.   

Am I missing anything?

I was a big fun of the troll street samurai from the Street Samurai Catalog. :D I never did figure out how he survived with a 0 essence though.

Quick question, is there an avail cap for purchases with the "post creation" cash?  That'll affect my recommendations.

Yeah, he's limited to what he actually had on his character sheet when we hung the game up years ago.  So He'll end up purchasing a Panther cannon and a med lifestyle and more cats, but the player who operated him had a specific goal of saving up enough to buy a med / high lifestyle (ane one leonization treatment) and then retiring to start a boxing gym.

I just want to check.  What can be changed?  Starting gear?  Post start gear?  Skills?  Attributes?  I want to know what can be played around with and what should be kept the same.

Honestly though as a Troll street samurai with an assault cannon and LMG from the old days, he's pretty decent.  There's some more optimal ware options he can take, but it's minor at most.  I don't think he's the type to dodge so I'll drop that and increase infilitration to 4.  After that, I'll see about increasing his attributes if possible.  Ideally he'll get a 4 base agility and a higher reaction.  I like pistols more than throwing knives, but he's got a history with the knives so keep them.

At some point, he should grab a Thunderstruck Gauss Rifle.  It's the Panther Assault Cannon of the 70s.

Edit- As for maneuvers, I recommend getting Sweep instead of Throw.  You're not going to full defense much and Sweep lets you knock people down and deal stun if you want with your fists.

Anything can be changed, It's not meant to be slavish adherence to characters made a decade ago, but rather an homage. We wanted to increase Agility as well, but it is my understanding that a Troll's max AG is 7, so with the Muscle Replacement he's already there.  Our GM is a bit cruel and so dodging and finding cover are absolutely essential in his games, even if you are super tough. 

I like your idea of Sweep.  Also Am I correct that his unarmed damage would be 11p rather than the 9p Chummer indicates?

What are the merits of the Gauss rifle?  Is it quiet or something?

Finally he also has a Harley Scorpion, which I forgot to put up above (but have edited in)

Oh frag no! If anything, it'd be a smidge louder than a Panther.

The reason it's so awesome is that it uses Gauss Cannon rules... you halve their armor before applying the AP -4 modifier. That means that a Body 16, Armor 20 Citymaster suddenly has 22 dice to roll against your attack instead of 31 firing a Panther.
