Good evening/morning everyone,
I currently have a SR4 character that is a poor implementation of the Sherlock Holmes style. While I went straight out the gate for a quite dapper gunfighter, my limited experience with SR4 made me fall back on my DND 4e style of character creation (MAX PRIMARY STAT!!11 ZOMG). This resulted in an elf (with exceptional attribute- agility) focusing on SMG's and hold-out pistols as well as a limited investment in the Mortimer Trafalgar gun-cane. This is leading into a gun-bunny direction that will, in short time, leave the PC dead. While I am quite proud of the character for a first-time effort (managed to hold out against several baddies, including the leader with armor and an AR using only a holdout pistol), the limited investment in RP/social/observation skills has lead to a limited scope of involvement during non-shooty moments.
I would like to solicit some character builds that focus on the stereotype Sherlock Holmes ideal (damn good investigating) while still being quite effective in direct combat.
Basic guidelines:
- Must start out with a tweaked out Mortimer "Greatcoat" line armor/clothing (have fun!). My current character also has a pimped out "helmet" modded by Mortimer (+1000 NY) as a boller hat.
- Must utilize a monocle (my current build uses it for image/smart link)
- Must be able to use the Mortimer "Trafalgar" gun-cane as well as easly concealable hold-out pistols. Other weapons are gravy.
- Overall build focus (combat wise) is to sneak any and all weapons into a secure location (holdout pistols, gun cane, other goodies, etc), then bust out if needed. Unarmed combat (fluffed to be Bartitsu) is important.
- Overall build focus (non-combat) is to be an investigator/high class socialite (a back-up face).
- There are no problems with bioware/cyberware, so go to town, as long as it can be fake-licensed. Hacking/magic talent can be minimized (outsourced to "Watson") as fluff would be that S.H. would rather take a personal, meat-space view of the problem. This allows for stuff like scorched and incompetent (hacking), etc.
- Contacts should include a high-level Mortimer rep (mine is currently a 6/5 "Jeeves" that helps out a la agent Archer's butler

).
I would like for this to be a constructive discussion, so the above guild-lines can be bent for characterization purposes if it makes for more fun.
