I'm trying to help my friends get their characters together, and it's going great.  I wanna run On the run as our first run, and I'm looking for advice.
Rules were mean't to be broken.

My advice? Don't. On the Run is not a very intuitive mission if your players aren't intensely paranoid and do more legwork than is required to get paid. You're better off picking up some of the Missions to start off.
Greataxe - Apply directly to source of problem, repeat as needed.

start with food fight you can dl it on the website , also you can twist it up a bit instead of stuffershack - free for all in gangbar johnson getts fragged firefight with 2 gangs then doc wagon high threat responce team shows up for johnson.

not even a run just survival.

run canceled just save saving mr johnson easy to upgrade in many varied ways, just  mix and match npc's from book with plot

I recently ran On The Run for a small group who had never played Shadowrun before, and they got through with minimal prodding from me. They bypassed certain elements-- for instance, they never even spoke to Loomis-- but they managed to get out of the run with the maximum amount of money earned and minimal hassle. They sold the songs to JetBlack's people and then participated in the bloodbath to recover the files, thereby selling the only copy to Darius.

I can see how it would be easy for a group to just complete the quest and miss on the whole second half of the run, but I think most players will tend to lean toward more curious than power gamey.

As far as advice, make sure the team covers a variety of roles, and give every player a spotlight moment. I also ran the game in two four hour sessions so they had plenty of time to poke around if they wanted. Otherwise, just make sure to read the whole thing through and review the sections you're likely to run in the session just before, and maybe make yourself some notes of the big stuff, but those are all suggestions from in the book.

For certain types of runners, the mission goes as planned. If your group is one of the ones that says, "I do the job, I get paid, I don't ask questions above my pay grade unless someone tries to screw me," however, you're going to miss half the run.

That was certainly my experience when I ran it recently for a moderately-experienced group.  As soon as they got the disc*, they called their Johnson and handed it over.  Went very well for them but obviously they missed a lot of cool stuff.  I tried, kinda half-heartedly, to get them to investigate further but after a certain point it felt like railroading, which I hate.
