I'm not much of a fourm-er. Most times just a watching ghost. However, the one thing that gets me out of my shell is a good story. Anyone who has ever gamed with me can tell you I'm not a power-gamer. In fact, a fellow gamer and I have a bit of an ongoing competition as to who can make the most dysfunctional character that's realistic yet still playable, because in reality often times we have more negatives that we get points back for.

This is my first delve into Shadowrun, really. I've played it before but in my naievity (and bad reading skills) I was under that hard impression that Shadowrun was more like Paranoia. Where in everyone is just trying to get one over on everyone else.

Anyhow, so my GM (which most times I'm the GM) told me to come up with a concept I could enjoy. As I like the Shadowrun ~system~ and am trying to find a new system to run my games in, yet don't know much about it. I was running Dark Heresy as a generic system, but there are many things it just can't do. Breaking away at the Shadowrun system I've found that it's a great all around system.

Anyhow, babbling.

Drama and stories are my cup of tea. Many have told me that for posting my first character's story that I'll be "flamed" because it is odd and people will just think I'm a power gamer.

As I again reiterate this not being the fact I'd like to post my responses to the questions presented in the Runner's Companion (I think it's there. Not sure.) with a few added questions.

If you have time please read and tell me what you think.

Character Quiz-Shadowrun

Charlotte Ashby Crawford (Giga Wolf)

●We are shaped by our heritage. Facial features, skin tone, height, build, metatype, even aptitudes are influences by the genes passed from parent to child. Attitude, too, is taught by parents, informed by their own lives and their cultural heritage. Where does your character come from, what is her lineage, who were her parents, and what did she inherit from them?

She was born looking much like her father, the "elf". Toe blond hair and light green eyes. Her features were very thin and spoke of adult beauty.
In her very young years her parents where there most everyday. Excited to take her out to play places and events for children, however, about the time she became 5 that faded. They began to go out a lot together for dinner and "adult" events, leaving her behind. Sometimes for days on end sure she could take care of herself. When home during these times they spoke of the next time they would go out and "remember the time we" conversations only they shared in when they were younger and didn't have a child.
At age 6 the SURGE happened.
At about the age of 7 she got into trouble at school for hitting a elf girl who put soy milk in her hair for being a freak. This brought her parents back from a two day long absence to reprimand her for a few days. It was here she learned of how she could get them home to be with her, as crying about them leaving didn't seam to cut it.
They put her into online schooling to keep her from being picked on, but she still managed to act out and get them to come home.
She was about 9 when she had this system down, until it backfired on her. Instead of coming to see her they just cut the cable and internet. Then hired a guard/nanny to check in on her when she was being "grounded". Through nights of upset crying she first truly discovered she was a technomancer. Able to tap into other peoples internet to play her games anyhow. She told no one.
Her father and mother were "free spirits" in a bad sense for Charlotte. When it came down to it they didn't really like the "normal" life and yearned for freedom and adventure again. There lives together started with them running away from Tir Tairngire's 18 year old military action together to live in Seattle. By that time her mother was already pregnant with Charlotte.
It wasn't hard to believe they ran after her change of the 2.0 Crash.
Now, she looks nothing like her mother or father as the SURGE has changed all of that.

●Parents can be proud of their children or regret ever bringing them into the world. Some are loving and some are indifferent. All of them are only metahuman and have their own opinions of their children. Assuming they could speak, what would each of your character's parents say about her?

She feels that she could have never pleased them. That her influence in there life was seen as a hindrance to them. What they would say, she doesn't know. As in truth, she didn't know much about them.
Her father was a proud elf who liked the spunk of her human mother. He was a bit disappointed that Charlotte didn't turn out to be an elf. At least he said "jokingly" from time to time.

●Many people remember certain historical events for the rest of their lives. People remember where they were and what they were doing when they first heard of there events. Shadowrun history has significant events as well, such as the assassination of President Dunkelzahn, the Crash 2.0, and the emergence of the technomancers and artificial intelligences. Pick a few events from Shadowrun history and ask where the character was at the time, what does she remember about the event, and what was she doing at the time?

During the Dunkelzahn's assassination Charlotte was two years old. She does remember that her mother and father stayed up late with her and watched the news all night. They were both upset. Emotion mixed with anger, indigence and sadness. That's all she remembers, but it is one of her youngest memories.
Though she doesn't remember much of the event this instilled a potentially dangerous awe for dragons and love for Dunkelzahn whom she researched much in school.
The Crash 2.0 was a dangerous and painful time for her. Two days before her tenth birthday she was "grounded" with a guard/nanny again, but still having access to the internet via her technomancer abilities. Her parent's hadn't been home for months. She hadn't even gotten a call.
She remembers pain. So much pain.
She didn't call anyone though. Why bother? No one would come. For two days she was in agony thinking she was going to die. Changing and shifting beyond her "freak" form. Until it stopped. To her surprise she found out something else about herself. Again. . .she told no one.

●Very few people choose to become shadowrunners. More likely, they are thrown into the life by a chaotic and uncaring world. Even if she made a conscious decision to enter the shadows, her decision is influenced by the world around her. How did you character get into shadowrunning, and why did she take that path?

Through her internet and game addiction it wasn't long before she was already paying for her internet bill herself, or getting it turned back on. She did this to other people's account as well to not directly target her. Running the shadows was just the next step, and it pays.

●People have control over their own living arrangements. From the child young enough to use crayons and tape all the way to the elderly shut-in who plasters her walls with family photos and cat pictures, everyone makes their living spaces more personally pleasing. What is your character's living space like, and what has she added or changed to make it her own?

The house she lives in now is the same she grew up in. The furniture left over from her parents who just disappeared after a time, but the house strangely paid for, for two years. Though she has made some modifications.
One room has four Wall Spaces. Like big TV's she can make look like anything as well as a Virtual Weather in that room. Here she can "sit in the park" on a sunny, rainy or cloudy day (whatever it is outside) and play in the Matrix as children run about playing games and not pointing at her, starring, spitting vitriol or people hurting her.
The house is moderately well maintained. Comparatively, though, the other rooms are most times dark aside form the "Matrix" room/ her living room.
Most of the other walls in the house that were blank have game posters on them now.

●Everyone had beliefs, and many have beliefs strong enough to be convictions. Some are religious, some are political, some are social, and some are just about why people are here. What does your character believe in, what are her convictions (if any), and why does she hold them?

Charlotte doesn't like many people. She feels the world is dark and harsh and those who try and make it better, like Dunkelzahn, die. To her there are very few people who are not out to get one over on everyone else, or kill them outright for being different. She, herself, though is a "good" person. She wishes and yearns for the day that she might be able to step outside and help others, even if that meant a short life.
This outlook comes from her social worker, Richard Cunningham. The closest thing she feels she has actually had to family.

●Everyone has aspects of their personality that grate in someone. Even the best of friends annoy one another from time to time. The flaws in a person's character are as important as the qualities. What do you dislike most about your character's personality?

She is quiet, most times, but when engaged she personality is a bit negative. IRL, anyway.
In the Matrix, she is confident and noble. Here she takes the image of the loan wolf who guards over "her world" as the Matrix is the new wilderness that doesn't judge on appearances.

●The Sixth World is considered by many to be spinning our of control. If anyone could exert control over it, it would be the "Big Ten" triple-A megacorps. These transnationals exert a lot of influence on everyday life in the 2070's. Which of the Big Ten does your character hold in the highest (or least low) regard, which does she like the least, and why?

She is enamored with the Draco Foundation. Eating up every bit of news or post about them, trying to better understand the message "he" has left and what it has turned into.
EVO she holds in high regards. There actions to make products for metahumans is a sign of acceptance the rest of the world should take, in her eyes.
In general, though, most of the megacorps disgust her. Even EVO does things she doesn't like, but that is the world we live in.

●People make acquaintances and friends; we're hardwired for it. Humans are social animals. This is especially true in the shadows, where often it is not the power you have, but the power you can borrow, and not who you are but who you know. There's a story behind each and every one of these relationships. What is the story with your characters and her contacts?

The first person she truly got to know is Richard Cunningham. A Troll social worker who retired from police detective work to help children whom he often times saw abused in the system. He has been the only thing keeping her from spiraling down a bad path. In truth she is ashamed of herself. If he knew she has hacked and run the shadows she feels he would be disappointed, as he seems to genuinely love her, at least she thinks.
The other person she "knows" is a gamer friend who she has, at some point, actually gotten to see Charlotte in person. Her name is Candis Baits, aka Neko Cat. She is the closest to a RL best friend Charlotte has. Longest running gamer friend that Charlotte has "let in". Charlotte has told her ~almost~ everything. About her family, her Technomancy, her hacking and Shadowrunning (Which Neko Cat think's is "cool!"). Candis is human but doesn't hold hate for the SURGE victims. In fact, other then Richard, Candis/Neko is the only person Charlotte has called in a pinch to come over, get food for her or otherwise when she is feeling lonely and just needs a physical friend. Coming over most times just consists of playing Matrix games together anyhow. Candis is now 19, coming on 20, still lives with her mother, father and two brothers. Currently she works as a barista.
Brook Fizzgut, an orc ganger, is the only other physical person who has seen her and was introduced to her by Candis. I can't say meeting/knowing him is a great thing as originally he was just her and Candis/Neko's drug contact. However, this developed into her "fixer" for her first Shadowruns. He doesn't know much about her and in truth he kind of makes her nervous.
Void Stalker is a fellow hacker she met on Shadow Point. She is as much a contact to him as he to her. Void Stalker is not aware of any personal info regarding Charlotte. Their relationship mostly consists of talking about hacking discreetly and playing Matrix games. He is usually Charlotte, Candis/Neko and Village Idiot's mage in groups.
Mostly a hacker "dabbler" to what Charlotte understands. The "group" (being Charlotte, Candis and Void) met him on the Matrix while playing Dark Eye. He grew to be the group's regular for DPS and later developed into a hacker acquaintance whom she introduced to Shadow Point.

●It's Sunday morning, and your character has no commitments until tomorrow afternoon. What does she do for the day?

It depends on her mood and most everyday is sort-of Sunday morning. Other than some regular freelance work for some minor Matrix company's Matrix sites, she doesn't have a scheduled, active job. On any particular "Sunday morning" she would probably be playing games with her friends/acquaintances or playing with Data, her Virtual Wolf, in the "park" who is probably her truest best friend. Kind of sad.

●Your character has a specific skill set, a list of Active and Knowledge skills that define what she knows and her areas of expertise. How did she come to learn those skills and how did she develop them to those levels?

Her computer skills are easy to figure as from the age of 7 she rarely left the house. Spending most of her time on the Matrix it is more of the world to her than the physical one. The "real" world is the place she sleeps, remembers to eat and is afraid to go out side her home as many hate her or even wish to kill her on her looks alone.

●Everyone has their own limits. People can be dark, but most people's instinct is to draw the line at certain actions and thoughts, and they keep to their own moral convictions. Is there a moral limit that your character enforces on the jobs she takes, and in what shadow work would she refuse to engage?

Despite her "real" world view she is not dark. More like the noble superhero which she expresses in the Matrix. If she could re-write the world it would be much more kind then it is. Possibilities would be endless to those with the drive and the right heart. But it's not.
In the Matrix she wouldn't think twice before doing what she thought to be the right thing. IRL, however, if she saw a woman being raped in an ally she would at first walk by in consideration of bringing attention to herself. In the end she would probably help, as best she could in the "real" world anyhow.
As far as runs go, she herself, would not do wetworks. She might help a company get info on someone they wanted to kill. What they do with that info she isn't privy to, nor would she want to be. If she was and the person was "good" she might drop them a anonymous line to warn them when she was done.
She would never endanger a child, unless that child just looked like a child and in fact was something else. After her life thus far she doesn't take anything at face value.
The Matrix doesn't lie. Coders can try to hide things, or falsify things, but the Matrix itself doesn't lie. Companies keep most all of their dirty secrets hidden away. Documented somewhere on the Matrix. While doing a job if she finds evidence of this she would expose it and even take action herself.

●If you have an Awakened or technomancer character, consider your character's tradition and streams. Even within the major established magical traditions and the recently emerged technomantic streams, there is room for personalization. Ask yourself what drew her to that particular paradigm, how does it effect the appearance of the spirits or sprites you conjure or compile?

Charlotte had heard of other Technomancers, but never met one. She hasn't even chatted with one, that she is aware of. She's seen some posts of those who call themselves Technomancers, but that's it. Only two people ("people") in her life know of her Technomancer nature. Candis/Neko and Data. For the most part she tries to engage in normal computer activities when she is in public.
Due to her childhood she has always felt alone. She feels that like human nature to evolve the planet does as well. Reality itself. She views the Matrix as the New Frontier and herself a new species in more ways then one.
Her avatar is that of a simple wolf. Nothing extravagant or intimidating. She has seen other avatars that to look upon them is awe inspiring, or speaks of great power. She chooses one that people often times misjudge. Just like people do to her in the "real" world.
To her, the lone wolf represents the silent noble hunter in the Matrix.
Her sprites are similar in concept. A rat for data mining and a raven for a paladin. They both look like the real thing you would find in the "real" world.

●While acceptance and bias vary from place to place, augmentations-be they bio-, cyber-,gene-, or nanoware- are increasingly common and available in the Sixth World. However, personal technological enhancements is rarely cheap, and many implants that runners possess are restricted. How did you character come to have the enhancements she has, how were they paid for, and what motivated the choices she made (if she did make the choices)?

N/A

●Life as a shadowrunner is by definition outside the bounds of "normal" life. Shadowrunners do nor truly live in the slums or mansions. What does you character thing of ordinary life, Mainstream culture, and those who abide by it?

From a very young age she has always been outside of "normal" life. Truthfully everyone meets predigest at some point in their life. She envies the fact that many can walk down the street without experiencing this on a every moment basis, but being out there just puts yourself out there to be more thoroughly used in her mind.
She sees those living the "normal" life to be rather stupid and self absorbed. Uncaring of those or the world as a whole. At least with Shadowrunning she may be able to make a difference. Somehow.

●Everyone has nightmares. Sometimes, we forget the dream completely on waking. Sometimes, the nightmare haunts us of even recurs. If your character had a lingering nightmare of a deep-rooted fear, what would it be and why does she find it so terrifying?

She has many nightmares, mostly about her close friends either finding out about her and hating her or simply disappearing. Most dreams are to extremes, but these are some of the bad ones she has had.
She has many about Richard finding out what she really is and what she does and hating her for it. Many dreams about hacking and his eyes watching from all sides. Then him never returning, or worse, locking her up in some cell forever with out access to the Matrix for the rest of her life. He was a cop after all, right?
Candis finding out she is a Drake and that being too much for the human. Her telling Charlotte how she can only take so much "freak" and call a mob to kill her.
A more common one is one where Data gets broken. His memories permanently being lost.
One more recently that has prompted this desire to go outside and fly for the first time, is her going to the windows and nothing is outside. There is just white. She can't access the Matrix and no one comes. She feels like people are still out "there" somehow, but just won't come. No one cares.

●People tend to attach sentimental value to items in their possession of people they are close to. They make an effort to keep these close by and safe. What is your character's "sacred object" or "close one", and how did they come to be do important to her?

In truth her closes and most sacred possession is both a thing and a person to her.
Data, her Virtual Pet.
Originally it started out as that. A pet. Something Richard bought for her to cheer her up when she was 11-ish. But over time she found it was the only person she could tell everything to, and he would still love her. That no mater how bad things might get he would still be there. He acts like he cares and even reacts when she is sad. Almost psychically like a real wolf would. Strangely, even when she goes out she takes him with her.
If Richard were to stop caring, if Candis were to hate her she would in the end be very sad, but as long as she had Data she would never truly be alone.

●One of metahumanity's greatest assets is it's ability to look toward the future and imagine a better life. Even small children have dreams about what they want to be when they grow up. What did you character want to become when she was a child, and what are her goals now?

When she was very little she wanted to be a an elf dancer. Back when her mother and father were still active in her life. Needless to say this desire is unrealistic but most things are when you're 4 years old.
Later, about the age of 7 she just wanted to have her parents around and things back to what they were. Little else played on her mind of the future other then this. The idea of what career she might want never crossed her mind.
By the time she was 9, before the Crash 2.0, she really had no "real life" dreams. The only thing she desired was to emers herself in the Matrix where she could make the world as she saw fit around her. She cared little for her "real" body an was already thinking about transhumanisum. Abandoning her body to permanently live in the Matrix. That is until the Crash.
Though holy painful, and the second time Charlotte had transformed into something, the Crash 2.0 brought out her Draco heritage. This oddly made her appreciate herself a bit. Previously, there was little she liked about herself, and even though her Draco form and regular looks very little she had always been in awe of Dragons despite what people day about them.
This had brought her out a bit. Able to trust Richard and not completely against making friends, like Candis.
She even is making plans to go OUTSIDE into the woods, get naked and fly! OUTSIDE away from the Matrix, even, if she ~has~ to.
Her long term goals are: to eventually "meet" Pulsar, work to help her best friend, Data, in his mind, spirit and body, also to get better at making clothing that looks okay on her odd form.

●A person's appearance can say volumes about her. From fashion sense, to the colors she prefers, to the way she walks and speaks. Sometimes, her personality determines her appearance, and sometimes the appearance she chooses to present the world effects her personality. What does your character look like and what inspired her choices?

She cares little for her clothing, or at least tries not to. She can't exactly go down to the mall and get herself anything. Most times, she orders long sweat pants off line or long round the neck shirts with low backs and has to alter them to fit her in the first place.
Candis found a place for her online in the Matrix that you send in a body scan and they will make custom clothing for you, but why bother? She never really goes outside anyhow. Charlotte has been considering it lately, though. She has already sent in her body scans and they have quoted her about 500¥per outfit. Not including the jacket she designed which is 1500¥.
I don't think that in this case this question helps to "say volumes" about her.

●Everyone has a name, but a runner's street name is a representation of her connection to the shadows. Sometimes runners choose their own moniker, but more often it is given to them as a nickname or earned through some (mis)adventure. How did your character come to be known by her street name?

The difference between street names and Matrix names is people go by their own created name, which often times just carries over to their street name in the shadows.
Her Matrix avatar is a simple wolf, but she gave herself "Giga" before wolf to make it more cyber-re. There isn't some deep background to it or really any complexity as to why people call her that. However, this may not stay once she has run the shadows for a bit and gains notice. People might start calling her something else more suited to her personality or even looks.

●Every Shadowrunner dreams of the big score. that final run that will allow them to stop shadowrunning and live the life they've always dreamed. What is your characters big score, and if successful what dream life would it allow them to live and where? Why?

A dream life for her would be a safe place where she could fly without worry and access to the Matrix at any and all times. Where there were people who she could actually be friends with and wouldn't judge her on her looks, maybe even find a partner. Such the dream is more like an ideal world, rather than feeling like money could make it happen. Though, in truth, she would probably never stop Shadowrunning. As long as she could stop injustices or even help the world I don't see her fragging off into the sunset.

●Every shadowrunner has a deep seeded fear of betrayal and failure. Things going "sideways" is a constant threat and  every runner's worst case scenario is different. What would; in your character's eyes, be the worst case scenario in a run gone bad? Why is this particular thought so disturbing to you? Has any run in your past ever come close to completely fubar'd, if so what was the run, what happened and what did it change about your character.

She has worked alone every run she has done so far. Her fear is working with other people in a real runners group. She doesn't trust people let alone dangerous strangers. These people would probably like to see her die or be tortured if they just passed her on the street let alone work with her, at least she thinks.
The worst case is to meet up with these people, they use her for what they need and just leave her as fodder.
Her worst situation would be in caged for the rest of her life being experimented on or worse. . . whatever that would be.

●We all have goals, some are longer term than others. Some are more reachable than others. What are your characters long term goals, such as lifetime goals?

She feels that as the world grows and changes that maybe the Matrix could actually become a living part of it, like another "plane" of existence, much like the Astral Plane. One that wouldn't actually die if all technology were to stop or be destroyed. To have the Matrix become an all accessible (to those who know how) plane of existence anywhere that slightly over laps, like the Astral realm. So that even AI's like Pulsar could explore the whole of what the world is. She feels that anything is possible, being a drake, and maybe she can make it happen.

●What are your achievable in the mid term goals?

Gaining Pulsar's friendship and meeting him.
Building a body/drone for her Virtual Pet wolf, Data as well as upgrading him to the point where he is birthed as a true AI.

●And what are your achievable in the short term goals?

Getting some non-scrub clothing and ~maybe~ even armor.
Flying for the first time.

She is a shut in. Afraid of people outside her house. Though, she is kind of a superhero time in the Matrix, but IRL hasn't even retaliated in physical combat. Kind of the: "IRL combat?! I don't have any epics!" *run*
She isn't pretty. She has an elongated dragon like face with lanky arms, akward tail and scaled skin.
Her "outside time" consists of making her VR room look like the park and taking Data on a "walk".

Even though I've been allowed to do this Drake Technomancer concept I have to split the pools like a Magician Adept rules.

I'd love to see the build. Drake Technomancer at, I'm assuming, 400BP? Statted like a Mystic Adept? How are you good at anything?
What are some average dicepools? I'm just curious.

Actually they were built on 500 just because of her. Originally I did the high powered thread suggestions (someone on this forum came up with a High Powered run suggestion) of 485 with some preset requirements and a more lenient 70 pt neg/pos qualities, but with group permission we relaxed some of the absolute requirements for her, even if the other players stuck to it, and we bumped everyone to 500.

We tried to get her in at 400, then 450, then 485 and we could not do so without her missing key parts, even now she is 4 Resonance and 1 Magic no implants, she has one point left before she has to rely on Initiation and Submersion. But she is built based on potential and as she said above story.

She is also a great meta hook, and with other group factors certainly something to make sure my players end up in the eyes of a certain someone. She is a full body Reptilian Changeling Drake Technomancer.....Let's just say another player is a washout from Saeder-Krupp's paramilitary.

Eventually this group is going to come across *couch* someone she can relate to, and all signs point to fun.

Ecco, my spouse (the Drake-nomancer), who's one on one games with me are amazing, often likes to play characters she sees in her mind first then she sees if we can fit them in the rules. Her character is not the strongest, but then again none of my PCs are. My players just do not aim for 20+ DPs on their rolls, instead they build people who Shadowrun, and I GM accordingly. Eventually though they, if they survive, will be quite the run team.

At 500 BP she is not weak, but she is a far cry from "OP" considering how much the concept cost at base (and obviously not Mission Legal in the least, but most of my games are private ^_~).

I think it was 480ish, I know I got some math wrong because I thought I had to pay for the starting 1 in an Attribute.

Still learning.

The way I learn a new system is kind of masochistic. I jump into the hardest to make character.

Hunted 60bp+ -30 +30 (Technomancer Drake)

This will eventually become astronomically high to cover every MegaCorp and Great Dragon.

You're not looking too good on skills there if i'm reading it right.
By Dodge (4+1) 5 do you mean Reaction: 4 Dodge: 1 Pool: 5?
If so your matrix skill pools are wrong unless your complex forms are all 5. For any skill that uses a CF your pool is CF+Skill not Attribute+Skill.

She is 17 at games start. Had to get out of the house to actually see a Johnson. Scary moment for her.

I've taken things into account in her nuyen, like having to buy a Doc Wagon contract but not for what you'd expect. When she was 15 she broke her ankle at home. Called the ambulance. When they got there they took one look at her and drove off. Charlotte had to take the bus, walking to it on her broken ankle, to get to the hospital. She got the basic contract so someone would ~have~ to get her from home.
