Savage Worlds isn't a bad system. It just suffers from the same issue as other generic systems do, which is what I like to call flavorlessness. Deadlands had so much flavor seeping out of just the system (I mean come on, a western game played with poker cards and chips) much less the setting, that changing it to savage worlds was kind of like watching the star wars prequels after growing up on the old films...that's right...blasphemy.
I guess I feel that if I have to convert it myself I might as well just build it from scratch in the old system. Then again, I'm also pretty anti-Pinnacle after an issue with Mr. Black where he apparently cannot tell the difference between crash_the_amazing and crashamazing and tried to make a few claims and legal threats I really didn't care for.
Forgot to mention. The big difference between SW and Classic is a massive step down in lethality which was one of Deadlands selling points to me. The more you risked, the more fate you had on your side, but the big bads were trying to kill you and you were never safe in the system. How your character was changed/maimed by the horrors was just as much a part of them as any skill or quality.
