I would be all for it if it were in Classic Rules format. Not a big fan of the savage worlds rules. Definitely looks like it has a good potential though.

That's what conversions are for.  ;D

But I'm thinking I might have to check out Savage Worlds when I hit GenCon...

Savage Worlds isn't a bad system. It just suffers from the same issue as other generic systems do, which is what I like to call flavorlessness. Deadlands had so much flavor seeping out of just the system (I mean come on, a western game played with poker cards and chips) much less the setting, that changing it to savage worlds was kind of like watching the star wars prequels after growing up on the old films...that's right...blasphemy.

I guess I feel that if I have to convert it myself I might as well just build it from scratch in the old system. Then again, I'm also pretty anti-Pinnacle after an issue with Mr. Black where he apparently cannot tell the difference between crash_the_amazing and crashamazing and tried to make a few claims and legal threats I really didn't care for.

Forgot to mention. The big difference between SW and Classic is a massive step down in lethality which was one of Deadlands selling points to me. The more you risked, the more fate you had on your side, but the big bads were trying to kill you and you were never safe in the system. How your character was changed/maimed  by the horrors was just as much a part of them as any skill or quality.

Oh yeah!  My group feared derringers and .38s back in the day, they knew anything could kill them, and acted appropriately!

My Hell on Earth featured a full damocles team that thawed and absolutely wasted a group of gangers that had breached their warehouse/bunker, all completely naked (one guy took a 9mm to the arm and that was about it). Next session, they nearly got slaughtered by savages with bows and machetes. They took a very very paranoid approach after that.

 :(

Another game I wish I could play instead of GMing all the time.  I got to play for a bit...  But not long enough.

Concur.  Haven't played Savage Worlds yet (considering it for a modern horror hunter type game), but the original deadlands rocked with the cards and the chips.  Throw in some over the top accents, and the darn lethalness of the enemies and it was a great game.  Some of my best roleplaying moments come from GMing HOE.  Things like the desperate stand against a horde of zombies on a river boat to a few showdown type scenes.  Great atmosphere.

Um... assuming a different Mr. Black?  or am I having a Fight Club moment? ???

Yeah, I love the classic, but Savage Worlds is growing on me.

Best Deal Ever is going to GenCon and getting killed by Shane Hensley, John Goff, or Clint Black!  ;D  Guess which one I got?

I just hope I did the extra money required for shipping properly to get DTFs of what I want.
