Hey all.
Our group is about to start a new Shadowrun campaign after our last one went... well everyone died and the only character that survived (mine, gogo Troll power) ended up living in fear of our enemies before Borrowed Time catching up.
So this time around I'm thinking a 'Ghost Dog' kind of character, you know from the movie. So Street Sam/Hitman kinda runner.
Thing is I'm not totally sure where to start, I'm just drawing blanks, so I turn to you forum people.
Here are the rules we have for character gen:

320 Starting Build Points (BP).
200 BP limit for Attributes.
Magic or Resonance limited to 3 or less.
No Trolls
1 skill at 5 or 2 skills at rating 4. All other skills at 3 or less.
Must take at least 1 Negative Quality from the following list:
 - Addiction (Moderate or higher)
 - Scorched
 - Simsense Vertigo
 - Spirit Bane
 - Uncouth
 - Amnesia (10 BP version only)
 - Bad Rep
 - Big Regret
 - Borrowed Time
 - In Debt
 - Lost Loved One
The Day Job, Restricted Gear, and Trust Fund qualities are not allowed.
Gear Availability capped at 8.
Maximum of 25 BP spent on resources.
Contact loyalty and Connection rating is limited to 3.
Low or lower lifestyle only.
Advanced Lifestyle rules apply.

I'll just add that our GM is kind of a bastard and uses rules like Deadly Combat. So we want to be careful at the same time.
I'm not asking for a filled character (but if you want to go that way, sure), maybe just more pointers on what I should be looking at.
Cheers all.

Firstly, nice concept going for the Ghost Dog type character.  ;)

As for how to pull it off, that's the trick, as they say. With Magic limited to 3, Physical Adept may not be worth it. But the same could be said of your standard chromed Street Samurai if the availability for gear can't go past 8. Unless they'd let you buy the magic attribute up to 6, then reduce it via Essence loss from Cyberware back down to the limit of 3. Then you use those three points to buy up Physical Adept powers that complement the cyberware you're running? Crazy, I know. I'm a bit of a newb, so don't take that last suggestion too seriously. Not sure if it would work or not. Just an idea that popped into my head.

He'd obviously need some weapon skills and other physical skills (maybe Perception, Infiltration, Shadowing, Tracking, Disguise). Intimidation maybe? Some tech for bypassing locks and getting where he needs to be.

Who would be his 'master'? Or would he be a masterless Ronin? Maybe his fixer is his master? Or a Johnson that he can't say no to for jobs given? Not sure how that would work with the rest of the group.

I actually did an adept character in SR3 that was loosely based on Ghost Dog: katanas, dual pistols, bushido philosophy for Centering.

I gotta say, your GM is really limiting you here. Adepts already don't have enough Power Points to go around, and with a Magic of 3, it's going to be even worse. Even with only 125,000 nuyen and Availability 8, it might be easier to build him as a street sam. (You'll only be able to have Wired Reflexes 1, but you tried to get Improved Reflexes 2 as an adept, you'd only have half a power point left anyway.)

Just stay away from simsense vertigo that is a terrible quality.  I would say go street sam get cyber like muscle replacement as its cheap and with the limit on gear you cant get wired reflex 2 so you have essence to spare.  I would also say dont bother with cybereyes just get yourself some contacts and earbuds as they are quite a bit cheaper.
Whenever I am at a loss for I should do, I ask myself what would Michael Weston do?

I'd probably go with an Ork.

I'd disagree with some of those Negative Qualities.

Addiction, Uncouth, and Bad Rep don't really fit with the character from the movie. He is a Street Samurai - he's not an addict, he demonstrates good social skills (even though the Mob doesn't understand him), and his reputation on the street is that he's bizarre but respected.

I'd probably go with Negative Qualities like Dependent (the little girl or his friend with the ice cream truck kind of thing) - stuff that plays off honor rather than lack of discipline or refinement.

I'd also find a way to get the Bushido creed Quality.

I don't have his history and stuff like that planned out yet, I still have a week and a half for that.  ;)
As for being limited, yes, but these characters aren't meant to be the heroes who charge in and come out victorious. These guys are the ones who live on the edge where any mission has a chance to go horribly wrong.

I'll see with the GM if I can play around with a few things.
Thanks for all the input, I'll go mess around on Chummer and possibly post his sheet later for review.

Sadface. Lots and lots of sadface.

That being said, I support the others in going the Street Sam route over the Adept route (Though the quality lightning reflexes may help bolster the effectiveness of an adept build with such a limited ability). You're going to be hamstringed by the availability cap. It looks to me like your GM is running a nitty-gritty ganger campaign on the street though, so swords and the like will come in good use. I wish you good luck, and watch out for trolls. In campaigns with such low starting BP they are just... nasty,

Oh I know, when I saw that I was sad too. I had fun with my previous troll as I was a boxing adept... I think the GM was like 'overpowered much?' and decided not this time.
Especially as I survived an oncoming truck while I was on the road. And then got shot at. And still didn't die.
It was glorious.
