I'm brand new to Shadowrun, and starting a with a group of other newbs, so this character may be in serious need of fine tuning. Focus of this character is to be somewhat well rounded, with focuses on infiltration, b&e, close combat, and secondary fire support. Silent kills are preferred. Any help would be greatly appreciated, whether it be the build, the gear, or restrictions I've over looked! Thanks for your help!

Notes: Our GM has agreed to allow me to take any Warrior's Way skill at a discount, not just Magic/2.

Willpower 2 is 1 to low.

Skill groups are expensive, unless you really need at least 3 of the skills.
I would propably drop the electronic skill group and get Hardware 4 and maybe data search 1.
I would raise blades to 6 if that is you primary combat form.
I would get automatics 4 and drop pistols - having to skills to shoot people besides yor axing is redundant.
Maybe find the points for the Stealth group at 4.

Wait with specializations and get them for karma.

Besides that I think it is a fine character.

With counterstrike, riposte and offhand training (which btw needs to specify a melee class) you definitely should take two-weapon style - a free melee full defense, to boost your defense and therefore counterstrike ability a lot.

I would also drop the mystic armor and take combat sense to 5. Evasion > resisting. In melee will also add to improve your counterstrike.

Addiction(Snuff) or tobacco in general is not allowed by the book(read the negative quality description for that), because taking it doesn't have a negative effect on you.

With allergy Soy i would be careful, because almost anything is made out of Soy in 2070(its not just common, its everywhere). And with your low lifestyle you probably can't afford to eat anything else. Description of the low lifestyle: "She can count on regular meals; the nutrisoy may not taste great, but at least it’s hot."

@rasmusnicolaj - Thanks, already playing around with the numbers, but looks like I can make all your suggestions work, if I drop my Edge to 2 and drop 2 points in my Contacts.

@Lethe - Thanks for catching all those mistakes, I totally missed the Addiction restriction, I had chosen Snuff mainly as flavor, since it is AmerIndian related; I will look for a replacement. The Off-Hand Training is for Blades, it just doesn't show up on copy and paste I did. I really wanted to take Two Weapon Fighting, but currently I only have the Tomahawk, is it worth dropping Finishing Move at this stage, or could it be picked up with Karma early on?

I've dropped Mystic Armor, but I don't think I can take Combat Sense 5, my magic is 4 after 1 point of Essence loss, isn't there a restriction on Adept Power levels being higher than your Magic rating?

The Soy Allergy is also fluff, and can be changed if need be, I had rationalized it by saying that he mainly eats krill based products, and supplements that with food he grows and meat/fish he gets hunting (Campaign set in Vancouver Canada, so access to Salish-Shidhe wilderness.) New GM so not sure how much he will use this to screw around with me, but I'm kind of interested to see.

I really appreciate the comments, being new to Shadowrun and especially its character creation, I knew there would be a lot of areas I would misunderstand or could be improved! Thanks for taking the time to help me out, and any more suggestions or viewpoints would be great!

Adept powers are limited at your magic rating.
So you can keep 1 level in Mystic Armor or take some other fun power like improved Blades to boost your weapon skill.

You also save a little money on gear if you don't need both pistols and automatics.

Get personalized grip for the tomahawk and maybe get it as a weapon foci.

I'd say keep with dropping the Mystic Armor entirely, and reduce Improved Reflexes to 1 (from my experience 2 IP is all that's really needed) to get Improved Ability for Blades at 3 to go with the suggestion of having the skill at 6. You might end up with a little left, and if you do it may be enough to get a level of Improved Ability for Infiltration (not sure how much exactly if any, and I don't feel like doing math right now).

The average human has attributes of 3.  By setting yoru Charisma and Will to 2, you are saying they are less strong-willed and less socially-capable than the typical Joe Q. Average on the street.

While the Charisma bit is purely one of taste ... a low Will is a death sentence for Shadowrunners.  Will is what you resist Mana spells with - like Stunbolt, Control Actions, and so forth.

I think Snuff is technically legit - it does have an entry in Arsenal. Well, it's synthetic snuff OF THE FUTURE, according to the description.

I'd never take Mystic Armor if there were other useful things to take first; it's just priced at more than it's worth. I think Imp Ability Blades is a better investment.

Finishing Move and Riposte actually don't play well together; both fundamentally do the same thing but with different triggers. I'd lose Finishing Move for Two-Weapon Style and grab a second tomahawk for your offhand; it's only 150 ny.

Pentjak-Silat + Wildcat is a solid MA setup if you are using melee weapons and Pistols, but a bad idea if you are using melee weapons and Automatics. The advantage is you can call shots with ranged weapons...but you cannot make called shots with weapons firing in FA mode. If you are using Automatics, switch over to +Blades DV styles (and try to dig up the 5 bp for a third +Blades DV).

Make sure you specify that your tomahawk is of the wood-and-stone back-to-nature variety - if you're using it over Swords of the Future, you should be getting the one advantage it has (not being metallic and thus not being detectable by MAD scanners). I don't actually recommend starting with it as a weapon focus; unlike some other types, they aren't that pricey with karma and you really want a Rating 6 one. Put your payouts into the piggy bank for a few runs and get a good one.

Here's my updated version, tried to take most things into account, though I couldn't do the 5 in Combat Sense as I was only allowed 4 points.

I don't think you want a Plasteel tomahawk; it's actually still very easy to spot with MAD. If you read the Tomahawk entry in Arsenal, they say it can be made out of stone - which would make them just straight-up undetectable by MAD.

@UmaroVI - Thank you, I was trying to find a way of showing they were wood and stone, but completely overlooked that they could be that way without modification. The Plasteel was the closest I could find, but if they can be that way without a mod that's way better!

I like this character a lot. I have a very similar character - also an Amerind adept - that's a ton of fun to play. My character leans slightly more toward stealth/B&E and yours tilts more toward combat, but I think this yours is an excellent build, especially if you are new to Shadowrun and this is one of your first attempts.

The only thing that gives me pause is Perception 1. Personally, I would trade it with either Disguise 4 or Shadowing 4, depending on which you think will get less use from your GM. Perception is useful all the time, whereas Disguise and Shadowing are more niche. (My character has them but doesn't use them much, but again it's dependent on the kinds of situations that your GM will place you in.) I might also be tempted to make Hardware 4 and put the 3 on Disguise or Shadowing, whichever you didn't swap with Perception. That's based on my experience but your miles may vary.

I don't see an Autopicker under your gear, which would complement your Locksmith skill nicely.

Just a friendly head's up, I'm probably stealing Lola Lustytush as a contact.

Thanks Tecumseh, it's been a fun character to build and I'm really looking forward to roleplaying him! He's definitely combat focused as he's a former Salish-Shidhe ranger, but the stealth skills are important to how I see him in and out of combat. I definitely would like my perception higher, and I fully agree that disguise and shadowing are probably wasted at that level, but they're that high because I have the Stealth Skill Group. I'm going to try and break it up and see if I can increase Perception and Hardware without losing anything on Infiltration and Palming. But it's the skill group's efficiency that I was looking at.

Update: Ok, I can break up the Stealth Group and keep Infiltration at 4, drop Disguise completely,  set Palming at 2 and Shadowing at 2, and increase Hardware by 1 and Perception by 1. Is that worth it? I know that losing skill points in skills I don't use often isn't a bad thing, but for 40 BP I had 48 points in skills, now for the same 40 BP I'm only getting back 32 in skills. Seems a poor trade, for +1 Perception and +1 Hardware. Comments?

I originally had an autopicker (his dayjob is as a locksmith), but dropped it as my agility rose, decided a set of lockpicks might be a better (cheaper) option as I don't know how many mechanical locks my GM will throw at me. Since my logic is low and my hardware isn't great, I wanted to have nuyen to spend on the best Maglock Passkey I could afford, and a Keycard Copier that could make some cards for Maglocks higher than my Passkey's rating. Any suggestions on B&E gear is greatly appreciated, in most RPGs I've played, gear is important, but not to the extent that it is in Shadowrun!

Hahah that Lola, she gets around, once you hear that name, you just have to have her!

Again, thanks for the help everyone, I really appreciate it. It's making me more and more excited to start playing!

I do think more Perception would help you, but I don't think that's the way to dig up the points. I would probably go with:

Cut Pilot. The average person in the 6th world probably has pilot 0 due to autopilot, you have no real reason to have it, and if it comes up you can default to 5 dice which is just fine for everyday stuff.

Cut Data Search. You aren't very good at this, and you can buy an agent that is OK enough at it.

Cough up for a rating 3 agent to do basic stuff like Browse for you. It will also dramatically up the security on your commlink (in fairness, from "awful" to "meh.")

I might lose that fairly-expensive Maglock Passkey. You can't buy Rating 6 at chargen and I don't like the idea of blowing 8000ny on something that isn't top-notch, when top-notch is only 50% more.

Cut Locksmith. Manual locks are fairly rare and the difference is minor because of autopickers. 16 vs. 15 dice on a niche skill is a lower priority than Perception, IMO.

That should get you Perception 4.

Hardware 4 would be nice too because that last point is 8 karma later or 4 bp now. I don't see anywhere to pull it from, though. You aren't ever going to be amazing at hardware with a 2 logic, so you might just decide that 3 is good enough. If you do plan on that 4th point eventually, I suggest instead yanking Athletics and buying it back with karma.

Also, just so's you know, you are paying 20 bp to be a human rather than an ork. If you really want to be human for RP reasons, go for it, but I thought I should point that out since many people don't realize humans are not an all-around-good default race in SR like they are in some other RPGs.

Notes: Our GM has agreed to allow me to take any Warrior's Way skill at a discount, not just Magic/2.
