Ok, something from another thread that might be fun to play with:

Scenario:
The team has successfully killed Mr Knight, CEO (and Chair?)  of Ares Macrotechnology, one of the world biggest megacorps (or any human major player).  They have successfully got away from the scene.. for now.  So what would be the outcome be?  Hunted for life? Given a tropical island? Retirement or a stready stream of wet works jobs?

Assumptions
- Team have successfully killed a major player (Mr Knight for arguments sake)
- Death is obviously an assassination, not an accident
- Team are skilled enough to have pulled of this job but are not one men walking armies who dragons move out of the way for.
- Team has escaped the 'scene' but are not far removed from the situation (eg havent escaped to the other side of the world... yet)

Have fun and play with this what-if scenario.  After all, it will never actually happen... will it?

And  I''ll give it a go:

-Mr Knight's death releases a Willm, which while not as earth shaking as Big D, will still trigger a shadow war between the corps and the remaining board members
- The person who takes Mr Knight's place immediately orders a man hunt for the runners at epic proportions.  While secretly very grateful, he needs to condsider the following
1) Publicly his very upset and should be vengeful
2) A big hunt may avoid people asking the question 'who benefited most'
3) The runners dont work for him, so they aint his friends and they have already offed one megacorp CEO...

- Runners get burnt by all but the most loyal contacts.  Not just burnt, but contacts are actively turned against them, so many things which they considered secret and safe, are not.
- Staying under the radar became almost impossible.  They need to get of the grid and now!
- They need to change their identify completely.  genetheraphy here they come.  Once thats done and some down time, maybe, just maybe they can re-enter the shadows as living legends.
- Maybe faking their deaths would help... maybe.

Now would be a good time to settle your debts with any friends, family or supernatural deities.  You feel that in the air, that rustle. That's the shitnami, and it'll sweep you up in the shitwaves.

There'll be a lot of people happy for what you did, but no one gets as far as old Damien did without making some friends along the way.  And new boss or not, there is a AAA Megacorp known for militaristic shenanigans with a top ranked secuirty corp as a subsidiary that publically does have to see you caught and killed to save face, eh?  But then again your group was resourceful enough to kill one of the most powerful bags of meat walking this island Earth, that's gotta count for something.

Ok,

Since there was no Johnson mentioned, let's assume they planned this themselves, and used a little common sense and gathered the supplies needed well in advance. (this case let's say: sniper rifles, magic support, get away vehicle, replacement vehicle, safe house with change of clothing/sins and yet an other vehicle...)

Right after the shot and death of Knight, expect a combing of the area that the shot came from with in 5 minutes by security. If the runners avoid them, they got a head start.... But that's it.

Within 30 minutes. Corp hackers are combing through every and all cameras starting at the location of the shot and working outwards. They KNOW this was a professional job, so they will be expecting altered data, and may even try to use the trail of false data as a lead.....

While the hackers are at work, fire watch teams are mobilized and sent into a holding pattern in and around the city. Special Ops goes into overdrive looking into every single person in the world with the resources and grudge against Knight. (that's going to be a long list!!)

Knight Errant goes into overdrive (assuming they hold the city contract) within 60 minutes of knight's death and seals off a 12 block radius around the shot location. They also establish check points at every choke point in the city (contract be damned!) expect lockdowned bus/rail/air stations. KE starts pulling in all the usual suspects for "questioning", anyone with even a finger in the shadows can expect to be paid a visit... And not politely. Magical analysis is conducted at shot location. ANY material left WILL be used for ritural casting. (they DID get away... Without injury, or leaving DNA behind... Right?)

Within 12 hours, military intelligence and anti terrorism units arrive in city and begin investigations. Any leads or suspected leads will be followed up aggressively!!

On the corporate level, power will transfer as according to protocols, and will begin to shore up their assets to prevent hostile maneuvers from rival corps. All executives will probably be screened to see if they had a hand in the assassination. Letters and statements will go out addressing the incident with enough spin attached to put the company in the best public image. A reward (probably in the tens of millions) is posted for the arrest or capture of the guilty parties.

If the runners can remain hidden without tipping off Ares, Knight Errant, the military, or the government for 14 days, they are closer to being out if the woods... If they keep their mouths shut about their role in the assassination for the next 10 years, they live. The moment they open their mouths and brag about the job to ANYONE in the shadows.... They die.

No Corp would let the assassination of their head man go unpunished. It wouldn't matter how long it took, they would pursue the assassins forever! It would be like the USA ignoring a killer of the prez. It just wouldn't happen there is too much honor at stake. The Corp MAY however concoct fake evidence to frame someone else for the crime if the rewards where big enough.... But that just means any retribution would come in the night... And if the runners were extremely lucky, be short, bloody and over quick. If unlucky, they would be taken to a corp facility and 'volunteered'  for clinical trials for all sorts of projects 'in the advancement of knowledge for mankind'
Where am I going? And why am I in a hand basket ???

Remember: You can't fix Stupid. But you can beat on it with a 2x4 until it smartens up! Or dies.

Ya seen what happened with the last couple guys who assasinated a president?  Now add in Shadowrun's level of tech, and factor in the fact that Knight and Ares is a bigger deal than the POTUS.

Yeah.  Not the smartest move.

And don't forget, they have much cleaner, more environmentally friendly options now, as well as Freya missiles for if they feel like keeping the collateral damage contained to a single city block.

That's nice to know.  When a megacorp unleashes mass destruction, I always ask myself, 'what about the environment?'.  Its good that they care, though I suspect its Vogel's influence.

Lowfyr, he would have dropped an oil tanker on them and lit it up.  Guy likes his BBQs.

Well, mostly, I think it's because kinetic strike weapons (Thor Missiles are massive tungsten rods accelerated to about Mach 60 or so) aren't covered by orbital WMD treaties. ;)

Plus, the lack of lingering radiation means it's an easier PR sell if they want to drop one where there's people nearby.

Plus, depending on where it lands, the area is likely to be mostly SINless, anyways, so it is actually a benefit to the community!

But as for killing Knight, unless you were as smooth as Teachdaire, then you're going to have MAJOR drek raining down on you. Sure, the Johnson will pay you handsomely, if he doesn't just eliminate that loose end, but your career in the shadows will be effectively over, or at least on hold until the heat dies down. Get out of sight, and don't throw your money around, having parties and what not. Sure, the Knights, Hard Corps, and Ares Arms will all be out for your blood, but there's no sense giving them an easy target.

Oh, and Ares will be thrown into even more chaos. Remember all those bugs that are infesting Ares? There WILL be a breakout, and someplace will be bug city all over again.

I can only think of one line that describes the end result of such an action: "you can run, but you'll only die tired."

In fact it depends on how you think of it... just killing him would be a long running day for whom did it...

But if you have the guts to try something like this and the connection to do it happen... Speaking of bugs one way will be to replace knight by a bug spirit even though it's just a deception and just saying... you know we did this for the humanity.

With this level of interaction I don't think we have a team with a blood lust feeling dealing with it. Otherwise they couldn't even expect to hit the target.

Just a think

I suspect that within half an hour of the team killing Damien Knight, Damien Knight would be pictured in a local Emergency Room explaining how it's only thanks to Ares' high-tech new SteelClothes(tm) line that he survived.  In reality, of course, it's a highly-trained close protection officer with a Knight personafix - or was that the one you shot, and the real Knight is the one doing the press conference?

Well... your own life would be over. Even if you manage to survive, it'll be either in a cell for the rest of your life without ever seeing light of day again, or hidden in a bunker away from everything and everyone.
Meanwhile, Knight burns a point of edge and continues being a bajillionaire.
You lose.

Reaver's sounded the best. I think they would also snatch a person up and say they caught one. Meanwhile keep up the man hunt.
