Hardware is generally used for extended tests, so it's not that big a deal unless the lock has an alarm.
Also, a First Aid skill of 1 isn't really enough to be worth it. Besides, with a medkit, you don't have to worry about defaulting since it "takes the place of your skill," so it's a lower priority skill than most. If you find yourself missing it during play, 6 karma will net you 1 skill and a specialization for 3 more dice.
That 4 bp is more than enough to afford things like the PuSHeD gene treatment for +1 to all logic linked skills. Not a bad deal for .1 essence and 3 bp in cash.
