>>>>>[Silly Wyrm. Sure he's crazy. Listening to people say they want to track him down and 'contain' him and his friends probably doesn't make him saner. Bet you I go to him offering him cold nuyen to go blow the hell out of a target, and it ends a lot more positively than your goons going to him to try and do whatever the drek it is you do to former SCIRE victims.

You don't deal with crazy by crunching numbers. That kind of thing assumes everyone involved is acting rationally. When someone says he hears voices whispering to him, you can't assume that he's rational. No offense to any technomancers out there, but there was garden variety crazy 'voices in your head' long before there was 'i overhear the coffeemaker thinking' voices.]<<<<<

>>>>>[Yeah, Money. No problems, other than that awkward scene at the gate when the girl from the LIason Office wanted a goodbye kiss, and Murphy's new Missus showed up figuring on the same thing. We got back to Seattle just fine, picked up two RFID tags the girl had left on my clothes when we were about to board, and burned them. Fortunately, Murphy slept through the flight back, and I was busy chatting up this blonde nearby, so they got nothing, except a recording of the girl getting into the Mile High club. What can I say? When I think I'm being watched, I find most spooks don't care to listen to someone having sex. Makes for uncomfortable situations in the surveillance van, yeah?

So anyways, Murphy went to check in with his folks, and show them his first real payday. Think he's going to check in on your tank, Money, once he finds out where they sent you after you got tank-napped. I offered to send some fish food with him when he went to see you, but he thought that joke might be in poor taste.

In the middle of my training session with the kid, teaching him about channeling mana to form spells. He's picking up the basics, at least, enough to not accidentally fireball people any more while doing katas. That was an... unfortunate incident, but not entirely unexpected, which is why we were practicing in the forest. And why we left, fast, before the Salish showed up. They get so touchy about things like that.]<<<<<

Be glad when I'm out of here.  That damned kidnapping delayed things badly.]<<<<<

>>>>>[Well, the kid I'm training is a mystic adept, so he needs someone Awakened to train him. There is only so much a mundane could teach him. Just like you need a technomancer to train a technomancer. Talent makes you see the world differently from those without it, and those who don't have the Talent can never appreciate the intricacies involved. Oh, they can see the results, sure. But they can't teach you how channeling mana into a manabolt is different from channeling it into a healing spell. Just like a non-hacker could see the difference between an Attack and Medic program, but they couldn't tell you how they work.

And quit worrying about Murphy. Assuming he doesn't get stupid, or his luck doesn't run out, I think he'll go far. He's already showing himself to be better equipped to deal with situations outside his comfort zone than most kids who come pouring out of the Barrens. If he survives to the end of the year, I think he's got a long career ahead of him.]<<<<<

>>>>>[Well, today went better than I thought with pretty girl. First, I made her choose her Shadowname by saying the first word that would come to her mind. Autumn is what popped up. More poetic and less ironic than mine but also fitting. Physical training all day and we spent the evening working on the, well, emotional part of the training. I sense depression and distress in her and I have to change that, or she'll either end up killing herself or I'll have to do it. We took a walked in the Barrens, I was showing her the world outside the Corporate Walls. I showed her some pretty horrible things, we even played pick-a-pair-of-bums. She could stomach it and she already seems to replace her current state of mind with disgust and loathing. It takes a lot of work to mold a mind into something capable of cold-blooded murder. We're going to do that every evening I'm not hanging at the Powerline or playing at the Skeleton. If everything goes well and she doesn't die first, it should only be a question of time before she'll show disregard for metahuman life. And I'll even have a gift for her when she's ready. She's going to like her first contract.

Since we're on the discussion of training runners, I'm curious to know what's on your usual training programs. She's my first trainee and since I'm going to train her for wetwork, I'll go with something based on my own training. Physical training, general combat training (advanced training in hand to hand combat), stealth, artistic and social skills and finally psychological conditioning and mental resilience. This isn't an exhaustive list of things I've planned for her but it's pretty much the big lines. She'll follow me everywhere until training is done. I don't even have to pay a single nuyen for her training, daddy was rich enough and also had a good insurance in case of "sudden disappearance". How about you guys? How do you mold someone into a lethal and effective runner?]<<<<<

>>>>>[I can tell you what I'm doing with my trainee. Oh, he chose a name for himself, as well. Then I hit him with the practice sword until he picked one that wasn't from Neil the Ork Barbarian. He settled on Bladesinger. Kid actually has a decent voice, so perhaps its appropriate.

Anyways, as for how I'm training him, we start with physical conditioning. All your basic PT stuff, for now. I'm not an expert on how to train Adepts, but I figure if I at least build up his stamina a bit, Wolfgar will have an easier time of things. Teaching him to use a blade is a big thing, of course. I favor swords, myself, but he seems better suited to those forearm snapblades. Different style, but should be effective. The trick is finding what works for him. I'm sure its about the same for you and Autumn, Smiley.

As far as magic goes, though, that's where things get difficult. A tradition is a reflection of your self. It goes into how you see the world. There are elements that aren't too different from philosophy. How you train someone depends on the tradition. For my tradition, it is about disciplining the mind and body, and letting the mana flow through you. It is hard to describe to someone who hasn't experienced it. The main thing to remember is to keep their initial training someplace that is either away from the public, or strong enough to take a beating. You can have runaway or accidental spells real easily at this stage. And you want to make sure the kid doesn't overextend himself.]<<<<<

If you can't keep cool when everything's going to hell, then you're going to get yourself and your team killed. You don't have to harden them to the point that Smiley is talking about unless you're going for the full on wetwork role. But you can bet that corpsec won't think twice before putting you down, so you better be prepared to do the same to them.]<<<<<

>>>>>[I'll be clear with you as I've been clear with her. First, she's not my friend, she's my trainee. Second, that's what she wants, to be a remorseless contract killer (her words, not mine). I did warned her to be mindful of what she wishes for. Third, hate only is the first step. She'll have to let go of it to become ultimately completely uncaring. It worked for me! Independent thinking is also on the program, don't worry. I'm not programming a drone, I'm molding an assassin. At the end, she's going to do whatever the frag she wants, whenever she wants to and she'll have the tools and the state of mind to do just that. If you don't understand that, then you clearly don't know what it takes to kill people in cold blood for a living and on a regular basis. I did mentioned it takes a special breed of people to do wetwork.]<<<<<

Break them down and build them up. I personally prefer blades, so I'd send people elsewhere to learn to shoot.

And Smiley is correct. To kill people on a regular basis, you either have to be cold, or go mad.]<<<<<

I probably can't give nearly the comprehensive learning some older, likely initiated ones can, but I can help lay some pretty solid foundation. Wouldn't hurt him to learn some hand to hand anyways, given that most spirits ignore your weapons unless it's a focus. An adepts fists on the other hand....well, lets just say one free spirit learned I'm not someone to try to possess the hard way.]<<<<<

>>>>>[What the hell.  I learned how to survive things by being kicked out of the door at eight years old by my bastard of a father after my mother died giving birth to the demon that used to call himself my brother.  Yeah yeah yeah, poor rich kid and all that.  Well, hiked my hoop a few hundred klicks in the middle of winter to my Grandfather's and learned how to be a hunter from him, as he learned from his father, and so on and so forth.  I got a few other lessons from a few other folks as well, and Grandpa also taught me a lot of the Neo-@ and anti-authoritarian stuff.  Grandpa wasn't any easier on me, but that's the family way.  'Course, he never expected me to cheat.

Put myself through university, started my own business here in Seattle, got bought out, got shifted over to being a Johnson to try and kill me because they found out about the employee contracts too late, learned the streets from that, rest is history.

Damn, I never tell that story.  They're playing around with my meds again.  Seems they're still trying to figure out how to sort things out with some of my organs not accepting the stuff as well as most people.  They put the damned things in me, you'd think they'd know how to adjust everything.  Going to take that up with my Representative when I get out of this...  Sleeeeeeeeeeeeepy...]<<<<<  >>>User:  Money Johnson disconnected at source<<<
