>>>>>[Honestly, we didn't go after it, it attacked our delivery vehicle. I suspect the package was somehow attracting it... inside the container, a metal canister was covered with cold gel packs and freshly hewed wood to mask it astrally. We took a look since the hacker was reporting hearing an anomalous buzzing and were suspicious.

It was dangerous, undoubtedly. NiSayer, I doubt there's much, but ping coming.]<<<<<

>>>>>[Before someone pins me to the wall as an Ares man, there are other bug hunters in the playground. You'd be surprised, especially with the amount of money they can pay for the most trivial info on any bug-related matters. There was a small hacker team that I hired to provide easy passage for a shadowrun that involved going to Bug City. Last night the team arrived back, and now they can all sit back and enjoy their vacation... After the anti-rad treatment, of course.]<<<<<

>>>>>[I dunno. It's not healthy to ask. All of my info comes from discreet surveillance of the hack squad I was requested to do. I think they might have stumbled upon a pocket of radiation, or something like that. I bet there's enough fools left in the world to try rummaging through ground zero. Maybe they picked something up, and left it somewhere else when they finally bought it, and the team was sent to fetch it? I can speculate, but I know one - the team got enough rads to qualify for a cleansing therapy, and the employer paid for it. ]<<<<<

>>>>>[Actually I'm probably the closest on here anyone can call an Ares man, so many bug hunts so little time. But thats actually a personal vendetta so we can leave it at that. As for radiation in Chi-town, while ground zero is bad Ice is right about there being other hot spots around town. I think other more "Tactical" nukes were used and not mentioned during the worst of the fighting as a "last resort" on a deadman's switch.

Also, sorry for my not being here lately, fragging political cleanup is always a mess and doubly so in an election year. That being said, i have a small bit of business for anyone willing to do a little digging, Its archeological believe it or not, have a piece of plastic sitting in front of me that measure 7.62cm by 12.7cm by 1.27cm or so and the only written on it is the phrase BETA MAX. I need a way to read it for a client. Any takers or ideas?]<<<<<

Is it rushing? If not, hit me when I'm back to Seattle, I have something that can read that stored somewhere. If so then I'll send Autumn since she's in Seattle atm. As she puts it, she got tired of sweating in this horrible drekhole... That's funny because, I thought the man-eating trees would make her go nuts first! Hahaha!]<<<<<

>>>>>[No, no! That's not what I said. I said old mediums are some of the most secure way to store data. Not because the old technology is better, but because nobody can read or use those as everyone passed on to newer ones. Try to find one functional Pentium I PC with a functional OS that runs on it. Protect it with a good password, thinker with it so it powers up only in a certain way and rig the hard drive with a little bit of explosives (nanotechnology works too, as long as it destroys it) if they try to take it out. I often buy dozens of very old non-functional PCs, place them with the functional one in a warehouse/storage (any place where old stuff don't look out of place) and I blow some dust on everything for a finishing touch. Now try find my data and hack me! Far from impossible, but we'll all agree I'm not making it easy. Hahaha!

Fortunately, I don't have to go through all that trouble for myself. I am gifted with a very, very good memory. But that is not the case for most of my close associates.]<<<<<

>>>>>[There is a reason why militaries the world over still train soldiers in old tech/low tech communication methods. While Morse code might seem archaic, the fact that the average person won't know how to listen to it with proficiency means that it is a fairly secure means of communication, especially since the messages can then be encoded further for additional encryption. And you can use it over any medium available to you, from light signals (flashlight in darkness or reflected sunlight in daylight) to radio/comm 'static', sometimes even layered under actual conversation. There are plenty of areas without WMI protocols, and while you can put up a repeater drone to establish comms, that is like sending up a red flag that someone's in the area. For similar reasons, hand signals are often taught, or even actual sign language (even if it is just a linguasoft), so that you can communicate without a sniffer program picking up any chatter.

Old tech solutions are like an additional level of encryption, one that is, as Smiley points out, much more difficult to decrypt than anything you have on the Matrix. Also, from what a technomancer contact tells me, there are these places in the Matrix where everything ever written on the Matrix gets dumped, even if you erase it, overwrite it five times, and then reconfigure the hard drive twice. If you can't imagine why that would make some people scared, consider this: Deus and the Crash Worm were both on the Matrix. So copies of their code, at least, ought to be in one of those holes everything falls into right? And how many corporate deep-dark secrets have you been paid to make sure 'never existed'? Low-tech solutions don't have this problem, though there are the aforementioned difficulties in actually using the information, since even your own people will have trouble reading it, if you're not prepared.]<<<<<
