>>>>>[Pain, death and utter corruption was how it was described to me.  Which, given how some of the people around here react to things could be anything from shadow spirits to blood mages.  They seem to take a similar tact to the old USA when it came to NBC warfare-it's all weapons of mass destruction.  It's bad, and needs to die horribly.  As far as a spirit manifesting as a suit of armor?  Have to ask one of the magically savvy people that one.]<<<<<

>>>>>[As a suit of armor or in one, Longshot?  Kind of an important distinction there.  If it's IN the armor, then I'd go looking for a rabbi to be the responsibly party (Who knew listening in on poker night would be useful, right?) If it's as armor, then it's a wild guess, because spirits tend to take on aspects of the summoner's mind.  I'm pretty sure that when my little elemental friend is at home, she doesn't have....Well, never mind on that.  I did have a valid question:  Why is somebody offering a reward of 5K to locate a modified BMW Blitzen?  Sounds like a lot for a bit of footwork, and some digging.]<<<<<

>>>>>[Wyrm, you know as well as I do that unless you have significant clout (or backers with significant clout) turning down a job from the big players can often be just as fatal as doing the job for them. There is such a thing as 'an offer you can't refuse', to use a phrase from an old flat-screen movie. That holds true even at lower levels. Unless you have the power to withstand any counterattacks for the 'insult' of refusing their work, or the damage they can do to your rep (keeping you from getting future work), then you don't really have much in the way of choices. Sure, you're free to tell any Mr. Johnson to go frag himself, but you gotta be ready for the consequences of those actions, whether it is the legbreakers from the Cutters teaching you some respect, or an invitation to attend dinner at the local SK headquarters (as the main course).

Longshot, the kid brings up a good point. Was it a spirit possessing a suit of armor, a spirit that took the form of an empty suit of armor, or a spirit wearing a suit of armor? The first one is most likely some possession mage's bound spirit in a vessel that suits his aesthetics. The second two may very well be a normal spirit that was summoned by a mage who thought a knight made a good spirit of man, or perhaps someone who heard the call of one of the more combat-oriented mentors, like Dragonslayer. A spirit that manifests as an empty suit of armor might, on the other hand, be the work of a trickster or someone who enjoys scaring people.

It is best not to put too much stock in a spirit's outer form, unless it looks like a Wasp, or any other bug. In that case, kill it quick, kill the mage responsible for it, and ask questions later.]<<<<<

>>>>> [I'm almost sure - not being Awakened myself, and not having any assensing evidence to go by either - that it was a spirit manifesting as a suit of armour, because one of the three times I saw it, there were bends and flexes that that sort of armour shouldn't have been capable of - it was classic plate armour. And the spirit didn't seem bothered. The closest I've ever heard about are the Knights of Harlech (but what would one of them be doing in Seattle?), or there was a description, from the old (2050s) Tir Tairngire filedump, of a Paladin or Black Banner that a runner back then witnessed and posted about.
This spirit made it clear that it was intervening for my benefit. I'm afraid of two things - one, that I know who was responsible (which brings up a whole other set of questions); and two, that I can't assume it'll ever happen again (because if I'm right, the summoner is dead).] <<<<<

>>>>>[Longshot, do you think it was a dying request summon? it could have been a Spirit taking on some thought of the summoner as they died. I hope it wasn't someone you were close to. Ice, I know you haven't met Liz yet but she's over in the cyber lab on B2 and it's time to reload her autoinjector, can you grab a dose from the fridge in my chem lab and take it to her? She can load it herself, she just all ways forgets to refill. I'd take it myself but I just got an urgent call from my 162's contact, he probably just set someone or something on fire, but I better go check before he causes the Yaks to blow another hole in my wall..]<<<<<

If you don't want to do some drek job for some asshole (may they be sclay or with pointy ears and funny makeup), say no! No need to get all rude of course, politeness is always preferable when doing business. And if that gets you killed well... >>>>>[When powerful magics are involved, what we think happened is really only the tip of the iceberg. Especially magics involving dragons. We still don't know just how that rift was created, and Ghostwalker is the only one who knows for sure how it was closed. In these cases, even what you thought you saw may not be what really happened, or it may be only a small part of a bigger picture. Longshot, my advice is to give thanks for your good fortune, and to pay it forward, if you can. Karma has a way of coming back to bite you if you generate too much negativity. It might not be much, but because I volunteer at the local hospital in Tarislar (magical healing is a big boon when you're short on supplies and have mass casualties come in), I can count on them to treat my wounds without asking how I caught that bullet with my spleen, or mentioning such things to the Knights. And one of the people I helped was a member of the Ancients, and they gave me an introduction, expanding my contacts and business opportunities. Obviously, not everyone out there is a mage, but the same idea applies.]<<<<<
