>>>>>[Vexboy, unfortunately doublecrosses are all too common in the shadows. Which is one of the reasons why everyone here is none too pleased with Scatter's unprofessional behavior in this thread. Typically you're most at risk for doublecrosses when you are just starting out and don't have a rep to back you up. You survive the first couple years in the shadows, and get a rep for doing the job, and doing it well, and most of that drek will go away. At least until you either wind up knowing too much, or pissing off people in power, Note, I said 'most', not 'all'. A good fixer will screen out most of those kinds of problems, though.

And you're now learning an object lesson on why you shouldn't go blabbing about your exploits in wetwork. Same goes for those psychos who go killing everyone in a facility, whether they're in the way of the job or not. All those dead guys usually have friends and family. Letting people know you were involved is a good way to end up dead, or in jail. In fact, just go back and reread the conversations in this forum where people like Smiley or even myself have been discussing kills. No names, very light on organizations, even, and almost no comment on methods... well, at least for the ones where people will be able to find out about them. You'll notice that, for instance, Smiley only goes into anything approaching detail on his kills when there's enough cover that he isn't going to get connected to it by anyone that matters. And myself, I only really describe events where either no body will ever be found, or where it is in Tir Tairngir, where I've got some cover of my own. And in both cases, even talking about things that much has led to 'incidents' where friends and family have tried to track us down and kill us. If you're going to stay a hitman, then keep your trap shut, especially in open forums like this one. FYI.]<<<<<

>>>>>[ Ewww.  Never allow yourself to be 'scouted' by people who 'allow' you to take side jobs; that's a one-way ticket to a hangman's noose.  Tell 'em to go take a flying frag - they can hire you or not, just like every other fixer in the sprawl, you'll work where and with and for whom the jobs require.  If your fixer has an issue with that, he isn't the quality of fixer you want to work with; find someone else.  If you have decent skills (and I've been through the Milwaukee Academy, so I know what the n00b Stars go through) then while you may not be able to write your own ticket for a while, though you may have to eat ramen for a few months, do the job you're hired for, keep your rep clean, and you'll get the good fixers interested.
If one of them does get interested, and starts to hire you frequently, then maybe you and they can consider whether or not you want to think of yourself as being part of that particular fixer's 'stable' - but you should be wary of even that, because even though it might not look like choosing sides, it still can be.  So choose wisely. ]<<<<<

>>>>>[Wyrm isn't kidding when he talks about people deciding you've 'chosen sides', either. Become a regular part of a fixer's 'stable' and you're effectively joining whatever faction they might have connections to. Maybe they're Mafia. Maybe Yaks. Or maybe they're a company man for one of the megas. Maybe they're the guy who contracts for one of the alphabet soup of government organizations. If you're in an Ares fixer's stable, it means people will likely see you as an Ares man. Good and bad with that, depending on how things shake out, and it will certainly affect the jobs that come your way. But things get nasty when you find out your fixer has less... respectable connections, like being involved with Alamos 20K or GreenWar. And try not to fall in with any of the more arcane-minded groups until you got some seasoning. Being a IOND man or being tied to the Dunkelzhan or Atlantean Foundations can lead you into a lot of nasty drek, with powerful enemies willing and able to send magical shitstorms after you. If you don't end up attracting the 'attention' of a dragon. Once you have a dragon's 'attention', you never, ever lose it.

We've talked about it before on these boards, but it bears repeating. If you're looking for work between gigs, find a way to get your name out there, and make contacts. If you're a close-quarters fighter looking for work, then be sure to spend time at the places people go looking for fighters. No, not the idiots who find random meatheads on the street or at the club, but the people who actually know a thing or two. Talk to the sensei at your local dojo, or the trainers at the gym. Sure, you're most likely to get a coupld gigs as a bouncer or the like, but it will keep your rent paid between gigs. Work any contacts you have.

If you have a legal SIN, keep it clean, and do the paperwork to get licenses on it. Then get a fake SIN, and similar licenses. Why? Because being a licensed Private Investigator, Bodyguard, Escort, or member of the Press can get you into so many places. If you're awakened, being a licensed mage can push aside some problems if you're in areas where magical security is more paranoid. And having a license for that Predator V means you can carry it through downtown without risking trouble if you're too close to a 'random shooting', or are caught 'walking while troll'. As for the fake licenses? Sure, they won't pass close scrutiny, but most cops don't have time to check every license on every person they come across, so a decent fake will be perfect for 'walking around' or doing recon. Turn all your IDs to silent (or off completely) when on the job itself, though, unless absolutely necessary.]<<<<<

Well... in the meantime Scatter put a good word with his fixer and got me a job but I don't understand my role.
