My character is a bit hard to pigeon hole, but he is basicaly an elvin infiltrator and second string hacker/samurai.

Anyways, I have come into a little bit of NuYen (a couple good runs) and looking for upgrading my two guns

My first gun is an Ares Predator IV the other an Ares Alpha.  I am wondering what would be some good mods for them in the opinions of more experienced players?

Right now they both have custom grips.  I am thinking some Chameleon coating on the Alpha at least, what else would you suggest?

For what it is worth I am wearing a Urban Jumpsuit with Ru* Coating (aka predator cloak)

I'm assuming that your GM is allowing Arsenal, since you're talking about gun mods. In that case, if you don't have some FFBA (Form-Fitting Body Armor) layered under your armor, you probably should.

I don't know what you're rocking currently for recoil comp on the Ares Alpha, but Electronic Firing will give you an extra point of RC and a -1 dice pool modifier to anyone trying to locate your firing position by sound.

That sounds sweet, yes, table rules is 6 books (20th aniversary, Arsenal, Runners, Augmented, Street Magic, &Unwired)

Recoil comp right now is 3 (2 natural, 1 for grip)

Rigid stock+Shock pad. Another +2, bringing your total to +6 with Electronic firing.

If you're looking for more, there's always Gas Vent 3, +3 when firing full bursts.

You can also add a sound suppressor/silencer accessory and use subsonic ammo to boost the perception modifier from -1 to -7. Or if you want to go whole hog, add the suppressor/silencer as a mod and bump it to -9.

Mind you, while having a suppressor and a gas vent on the same weapon is possible, either as two mods or a mod and accessory, you'd have to turn off the gas vent (free action for smartlinked guns) for the suppressor to take effect.

And don't forget to skinlink your guns, nothing more awkward then your gun geting hacked in the middle of a firefight.

Doesn't skinlink require contact with..ya know... your skin?  Not a useful option if you're wearing gloves (like full FFBA)~

Rigid stock does not stack with Shock Pad, Electronic Firing does not stack with Personalized Grip and Gas Vents always add their rc, not just on full bursts.

What the previous poster said. Skip electronic firing, it doens't stack with personalized grip. Skip the stock, it doesn't stack with the shock pad and can't be mounted on an assault rifle (it already has a stock). Heavy barrel is the mod that only provides RC on full bursts. You can get it if you're shooting for maximum recoil comp, but you probably won't have enough mod slots left after you get this other stuff:

-Skinlink so you don't get hacked. Everything in your PAN should be skinlinked.
-Either Gas-Vent 3 or Sound Suppressor as a mod, with the other as an accessory. Switch between them as needed.
-Chameleon Coating, to match the reuthenium on your armor, so your gun can be as stealthy as you are.
-Foregrip or underbarrel weight accessory, for +1 RC.
-An optical scope with vision mag and the like, unless you have cybereyes that can already do that.

As for the Predator, if it's already got personalized grip for 1 RC than it doesn't need much else. Silencer and Chameleon Coating, perhaps?

Away from my books right now, but I remember an IFF system, is it worth it?

Perhaps not the best expenditure for optimizing, but always give a glance at Melee hardening. Especially if you have the clubs skill.

Nothing like running out of ammo and clocking some corpsec in the face with a melee hardened assault rifle. Or pistol whipping them for that matter.

Ok, some good sugestions.  I will need to figure out what to drop as it adds up to 7 slots (I'm thinking the grip) I have vis mag in my gogles, hopefuly that is good enough.  The sound suppressor as the mod makes more sense (-6 insteaad of -4)

For the Predator, if you already have a personalized grip, the only things you really need to do would be toss on an internal silencer, maybe get gecko grip, and then maybe custom look or melee hardening.

For the Alpha, if you had a sling, foregrip, and personalized grip, you'd have a 5 RC, which will allow you to do BF with no recoil. Add on an internal silencer, and then anything else that fits your fancy.

The sling doesn't stack with the shock pad. Did I forget to mention getting a shock pad? Sorry. Someone else had already said it, so it slipped my mind.

With either the sling or the shock pad, plus the foregrip and the personalized grip, you're at RC 5 when you use the suppressor, and RC 8 when you go loud and use the gas vent. Just one point shy of total immunity to recoil, but the only options left cost too many slots to get.

Maybe you can mount the skinlink as an external accessory instead of a mod to save a slot. They're sold seperately in the main book to be attached to whatever you need, with no real clarification of how that works for smartguns.

Alternately, if you make the Gas-Vent the mod instead of the suppressor, you'll save a slot, even though the suppressor will be slightly less effective.

Vis mag in goggles should work, but if you want to make sure in case the goggles are ever unavailable, you can mount a scope with vision mag in the top mount of the weapon for just a little bit of nuyen.

I don't actually see an airburst link listed among the standard features of the Ares Alpha, so you better add that too. It makes the grenade launcher far more potent.
