hi guys, first of all, thanks for your help so far with my questions.
i'm looking at building some NPC's (maybe PC's) to help out on a trial 4e run (not serious mission, just to get the game structure and rules down really).
question is, i've been looking at varying builds and i think you could make a veritable walking tank out of a troll adept. is there actually a use for one though?
i figure you could use 4+ pp to get mystic armour, combat sense, rapid healing and some improved heavy weaps ability.
use restricted gear to load up on milspec armour, give him a hmg or assault cannon with gyro and lay down some serious firepower. maybe a drone or two as backup with lighter weaps to counter flankers.
this kind of build would be fun in a kind of mwahahahaha (*face lit up by muzzle flashes*) way, but it aint exactly subtle obviously!
have you guys used a char like this? what did you think?
have you guys been on runs where you wished you had this sort of guy with you?

One of the guys I run with has a similar character build. But instead of focusing on being able to take a whole bunch of ballistic damage he made his character over time so physically fast that he just dodges bullets, or his mil spec armor takes the glancing blow that he couldn't dodge. While using some power points for his rail gun, he mostly had his other points in a little mystic armor, but also boost reaction, and abilities to focus on killing spirits. All of this together and him being a vampire made for a nasty character. I believe in total he has a 12-16 dice pool for his rail gun.

When in combat due to he goes first and the rail guns are two attacks an IP, he would always kill a minimum of two enemy's (the mages) while the Mage would then destroy the mudanes. So yes the heavy weapons specialist is fraging awesome when used with a good team.

Just remember though. Stacking armor like you want to do us great because you can't dodge a sniper shell that your unaware of.

I've seen a lot of Orks and Trolls start out that way and if it's that kind of game then he's definitely fun to play and useful.

That said, take a look at the newer guns coming out of Gun Heaven 2. There's a Battle Rifle that has 9P AP-3 but is also burst fire capable thanks to High-Powered Rounds, which admittedly is tougher to get. Heck, Battle Rifles have more or less replaced most MGs, which were already threatened once you could mod an assault rifle to have 100c.

If you want real mayhem, and have a GM that's okay with it, use Restricted Gear on a burst-fire Grenade Launcher. Then mod that sucker to Full Auto. With a smartlink and airburst, you could eliminate entire platoons in a single IP. I think the Gonryu's the BF capable one.

It's also important to give this guy a secondary capability. Usually, Demolitions isn't a bad tie-in since it's not often used and it seems to fit their modus operandi. But any other skill would be nice in additon to heavy weapons.

nice. yeah i know its not gonna fit very well with a group of stealthy chars, but the guys i played pathfinder with (and will be playing SR with) tend to go down the "start a bar fight" route so it might just be fine :-)
demolitions could be cool, maybe some skills in armourer/vehicle too. i suspect i'll be putting too many points into body/agility/armour/guns to put that milspec commlink to good use though.
do you guys have any good combat/hacker hybrid builds?
i dont have gun heaven2 so would be stuck with the rulebook and arsenal for guns. are the HMG/assault cannons not so hot then? just seems like a troll would need something bigger than an AR/BR, they'd look like a kids toy in his hands :-)
out of the MG's/cannons, what is worth taking?
cheers all!

There's also the "artillery rigger" type. Make the same character, but go ork not troll. Give him a really good commlink and Command, minimal computer skills, and put your nastiest (read: area effect) toys on some aerial or satellite-linked ground drones.
