To be fair, SR has good gamer cred.

Microsoft (who holds the IPs for Shadowrun and BattleTech video games) is the main culprit in past mistakes.

Or maybe a Neverwinter Nights-like format where you can customize the setting and create your own adventures, then play as a group online while one person GMs.

there was one in the works using the NWN engine then either MS shut them down, or they saw what happened to shadowrun-online and shut themselfs down.  i looked at an early release of it and it was looking good for a very early version.

Lesson to be learned from them:

Copyright and Trademark laws do in fact matter.

At least if you don't want to be crushed like an ant beneath a legal boot heel.

If you want to release a product based on someone else's property, get the owner's permission first.

Apparently Cliffhanger Productions has acquired rights to create an MMO for Shadowrun.  Unlike the previous SRO attempt, this company apparently did things the right way and actually asked permission first.

Press release is here: http://www.cliffhanger-productions.com/content/list/details/id/58

I have high hopes and expectations.  I'm appropriately worried about how successful and how good the quality of the game will be, esp with an expected release date in 2012.

Thought I'd read somewhere online that Microsoft handed over the rights to Shadowrun to Tinker & (something), and that they were perhaps going to work on something after another project.

Smith & Tinker holds the general digital game rights, and they licensed the MMO rights to Cliffhanger.

I would love a SR game! Though I'd have to buy an xbox/computer that can play games... but for an SR game that was good, I'd do it at the drop of a hat!

Cliffhanger....Cliffhanger....I know I've heard of that developer before but cannot put my finger on what they've made recently.

Sweet!!

I was a bit worried when I saw the Deadlands bit that it was a company who's solvency was in dispute. There was a Deadlands MMO in the pipes but the company doing it went down with Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, last I knew.

Interesting. Risen was a nice Gothic clone, and Gothic 3 had a great world behind it. I think they deserve a fair treatment.

Wait, i just read an article about the gothic rights falling back to piranha bytes, who are, right now, developing the MW3015 Game, i think . .

Thanks - being one of the members of Cliffhanger, I have to say, though, we did not develop Risen (it was done by the team that invented Gothic, but for legal reasons wasn't allowed to work on Gothic 4) we just produced it.

We are hoping to do justice to the License and have started to talk with writers of the Pen and Paper version to get them into the project.

I hope they find some way to integrate Jackpoint and shadowsea with some shadow talk in to the game
