Ohhh..that looks so beautiful!!!!  It reminds of the game I used to play when I was in highschool called "Syndicate".  I so envisioned that to be the best possible way to do a shadowrun game.  I remember I used to have to plan out a mission first and then see if my game-plan worked!

You guys at Cliffhanger have an incredible chance to shape the future of Shadowrun and the public with the visuals you guys employ.  It's not the quality of the graphics, its just the ambiance you create with what you got!  But you guys could really put a nail in the coffin of this bias people have (William Gibson himself included) against shadowrun because they feel that Elves and Dwarves kill the bad-ass edginess of a cyber-punk genre.  Even though you guys always talk about how game-play is gonna come first and foremost and how graphics won't be so good....I think these visuals are perfect!  Now with a little bit more Blade-runner noir texture...(just add some fedoras and over-coats....and i'm talking just a little).....and a good bit more neo-shamanistic/celtic/occult over-tones reflecting a world steeped in magic....you'd have a great feel there that is uniquely shadowrun and finally gets people to swallow this whole "Elves and Dwarves in a cyberpunk world" thing.  Make'em FEEL the awakening!!!!  Maybe with some prop NPC's on the streets.....like put a homeless troll in a corner trying to cover himself with cardboard to stay warm.  Hats off to you guys for finally making our dreams come true for those of us who have waited for a real shadowrun game since we were kids in the 80's!!

Syndicate was Boss. I still hate the Oil-Rig-Level at the End.
Syndicate Wars was Boss too. Don't remember much though.

I remember that level.. tons of guys swarming at you, every one of them dropping one of those timed bombs. The only way to beat it was to outfit all 4 of your guys with miniguns and pump them to the max with all the reaction-enhancing drugs. That game was totally bad ass.

OK...some help from our German speaking fans:

http://www.buffed.de/Shadowrun-Online-PC-238580/News/Shadowrun-Online-Video-Interview-zur-kommenden-Umsetzung-des-Cyberpunk-Rollenspiels-852409/

The video in this includes in the background scenes from, supposedly, the prototype level.
I see "Not enough AP" for some things, and when he kills a mook, I see "+228 XP" float up.
Since in the original releases, they were talking about trying to make it like the Genesis Shadowrun Game
(which to me means: mostly follows the rules for character advancement, Karma awarded only at the end of
missions, and you have to know your johnsons and contacts matter), can someone please tell me that
that is just the level that they snuck into Jagged Alliance, and not representative of what actual Shadowrun Online
gameplay will be like? Please tell me that he was showing that just to show the look!

Doesn't say anything about the game itself in the interview really.
At least not about the footage running in the background . .

They could do worse than using JA as a basis for the combat system.

The limited AP is a bit irk-some . . because you don't have those in Shadowrun.
You do have them in Fallout though, so i probably will do fine with them . .

Only two ways to handle stuff like that: Either AP and stuff that gives IP giving more AP,
or action bars that fill up. Admittedly, AP work effectively because Shadowrun does have
different grades of actions, so they could easily do them costing AP so that the breakdown
works out to be the Move Action and 2 Simple actions we know and are familiar with.

Move By Wire is better than Wired Reflexes though.

Until they get hacked, and the control system for it is turned off...

AP really is a great analogue for the complex/simple/free action system....it looks to me to feel a lot like table top from watching the video.  The one thing that worries me from what he says in the video is that they will include "Archtypes"....I really hope that it's not class based.  One of shadowrun's most important and distinctive features is it's skill and abilities based character system.  Even the sega game was quite free in that it had a buy system.  Especially in an online multiplayer game, a skill based character system would be so great because you wouldn't have a million little photocopies of yourself running around.  Sure, people would start min maxing but if they make the "shadowruns" more like Deus Ex style where there is several ways to complete objectives, then min-maxing wouldn't help so much.  Also shadowrun table top really sucks at having "bosses" because they get pwned so fast and if they don't get pwned fast, it's probably a team wipe.  This is going to have to be a heavily strategy based game and I hope they're serious about that when they say it and do a lot better job than something like WoW.

Archetypes have always been a part of Shadowrun.

You know them as Street Samurai, Decker/Hacker, Rigger, Adept, Magician, and the like.

Archetypes are one thing, classes are another.

Being straight-jacketed into a single role would suck.
There is no overkill.

Only "Open fire" and "I need to reload."
