So This is my first try at SR character creation and I'm open to suggestions, compliments, or criticism. I'm trying to stay in the core book. I started with 400bp and am already down to 71 (haven't spent any on Nuyen yet.) Still have 9 knowledge skill bp as well.

What I have so far:

Name: James Copper
Alias: Patches
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Nationality: ?
Lifestyle: ?
Karma Spent: 0
Physical Description: 5'8", 140lbs, Caucasian, brown hair tinged with gray, brown eyes
Personality/background Ex Doc Wagon High Threat Response Team Lead. James saved the life of a young shadow runner while still on a AAA Mega corps lawn (kid was technically HANGING on their side of the fence.) The kid did him a solid though and with the help of his team saved him from the mega corp. and broke James out of the pen only an hour after his arrest. Bad news is James had to watch the entire team die weeks after they saved him. So after he lost his job, wife, and first team in a matter of a month James now attempts to eek out a living in the shadows as a runner. His experiences and training have made him an excellent rigger able to drive or fly just about anything while also patching up his coworkers. They have also scarred him deeply ingraining in him a pacifistic streak and leaving him with a drinking problem.

What I'm Stumped on:
-Where can I find info on Doc wagon? Its parent company if it has one?
-What gear should a rigger/ medic have?
I was assuming he would still have some ware from when he was legit that would help in his field (comlink, cybereyes, data jack, control rig, wired reflexes) a kick ass medkit...depending on the nuyen available possibly a armored ambulance (cost?).
-What kind of weapon does a pacifist carry besides a pistol and knife as a last ditch choice?
Taser maybe? other suggestions?
-What kind of armor would he be used to? What could he get his hands on now?
-Nationality depends...ideas?
-Contacts? Was thinking of one of the people who work in one of the main branches who could help him locate people who happen to have doc wagon contracts. Also was thinking of a fixer who the last team introduced him too.
-Since he has a criminal SIN what would he do to hide if he had a implanted comlink? (already assuming he had help removing/altering/replacing any hardware that would allow doc wagon to track him)

I'll start by doing my best with your questions:

-Where can I find info on Doc wagon? Its parent company if it has one?
Dog Wagon doesn't have a parent company; it is its own corporation. DocWagon is described briefly in the core rulebook (in the gear section), but I don't know of another canon source of info.

-What gear should a rigger/ medic have?
A rigger needs a good commlink with a high Signal rating, a decent Electronic Warfare skill (Hardware is a good idea as well), and high-rating Rigger programs, like Spoof and Scan. I'd recommend investing in a decent Pilot program as well, if you plan on having Drones. A good Medic can get by with a Medkit, but I'd probably pick up some Trauma slap-patches if I was you. Autodoc probably isn't necessary, as you'll have a good First Aid skill. Speaking of which, I'd recommend looking into the skill descriptions of the other skills in the Biotech Group; you can save a lot of points by picking up just one or two skills. You could also get one of them above rating 4, which is not possible when buying Skill Groups at chargen. There isn't really an armored ambulance in the book (IIRC Doc Wagon roll in VTOL craft), but you could pick up a Bulldog van from the core rulebook and drop some armor on it.

-What kind of weapon does a pacifist carry besides a pistol and knife as a last ditch choice?
Taser maybe? other suggestions?
If you load the pistol with Stick 'n Shock ammo, you can use it as a primary weapon, even as a pacifist. It's also (arguably) the most effective ammo in the game, since it does electrical damage (resisted with half of the targest's impact armor). Taser requires you to invest in an Exotic weapon skill; I'd recommend a Stun Baton (which uses the Clubs skill) instead, if you want some kind of melee backup.

-What kind of armor would he be used to? What could he get his hands on now?
Do you have access to the Shadowrun Anniversary Edition rulebook? Your guy could reasonably get his hands on anything in the gear section with an Availability of 12 or less. Camo armor or an Armored Jacket is probably your best bet.

-Nationality depends...ideas?
DocWagon has contracts all over the place...is he supposed to be from Seattle? Chances are he is/was a UCAS citizen, or possibly a Salish with a work visa.

-Contacts? Was thinking of one of the people who work in one of the main branches who could help him locate people who happen to have doc wagon contracts. Also was thinking of a fixer who the last team introduced him too.
Well, a contact at his old job would make sense, and could be very useful. As a medic, it's possible he knows some cops...possibly former Lone Star patrolmen, or some of the Knight-Errant guys currently on duty in Seattle. If he does a lot of driving, he'd better know a good, discreet mechanic. By the way, speaking as the GM of the game you'll be in, you're getting a free Fixer contact, so you might not want to bother paying for another one :)

-Since he has a criminal SIN what would he do to hide if he had a implanted comlink? (already assuming he had help removing/altering/replacing any hardware that would allow doc wagon to track him)
Same thing as anyone else; he'd be broadcasting a fake SIN and hope that nobody notices (they usually don't). The disadvantage of having a Criminal SIN is mostly that the authorities have a record of your fingerprints, blood type, retina scan, etc., so it's much easier to link you to your crimes if you leave any traces behind.

DocWagon's an AA on their own.

Gear: If the didn't steal an ambulance but does get jobs as the team's medic, any vehicle with a valkyrie module or two installed would be good. There's some good drones for med stuff too, biggest one the Evo Orderly (Arsenal). An Ares Air supply's been used for search and rescue too, plus it's cheap, has VTOL and has more modslots than any other drone.
Why not get a Rover or GMC Bulldog with an extra entry in the roof to allow the thing to land in?!

Weapon: Tasers! Defiance Ex Shocker for both Close and Ranged combat. For more range, since you're a medic anyway, get any weapon you want and load either Stick and Shock or capsule rounds filled with narcoject (and later with Gamma-scopolamine or Slab).

I'm actually quite certain I saw an HTR team statted out in one of the pre-written modules, but I can't remember which one, sorry.

Hm, damned, ninja'd.
jonathanc's answers are pretty good... Only he's wrong on the tasers: they use pistol skill, not exotic weapon! So definitely worth picking one up.

I stand corrected on the taser; I was probably thinking of the Pain Inducer. Good recommendations, though for the purpose of the game he's playing in, only core rulebook stuff is permitted, so Arsenal vehicles are out.

IMO the Defiance is best saved for emergencies, as the Single-Shot firing mode makes for lengthy reloading during combat, when every action counts. The Pulsar doesn't have this problem, but does the same damage as Stick n Shock without providing any benefit, plus it only holds 4 shots.

Oh, yeah. Without Arsenal lots of things change...
Get two Defiance Ex's and Ambidexterity, together with clubs and pistols! Pulsar suffers from low ammo just the same but does lousier damage and can't be used as a melee weapon.
The Defiance Ex is also better than the Stun Baton from SR4A. And any other melee weapon is pretty much no option, considering 2 Str will mean doing barely any damage with any weapon doing Str based damage.

Heck, get 6 Defiance Ex's, two quick draw holsters, two hidden arm slides and two concealable holsters and screw reloading. They're dirt cheap! Just remember to pick up your mess when your enemies are sleeping at your feet.

I picked up a Stun Baton and a Fichetti Security 600 with stick and shock ammo in a concealed holster(2 spare clips already filled as well)
I figure if the pacifist medic has to start shooting well I'm doomed anyway.

Just on an optimising note, if you raise your willpower up to an odd rank, you get an extra box on your stun condition track.

If you can afford to get a Hughes Stallion Utility Helicopter, I'd think it a worthwhile choice. ;D

While I like the idea of the copter its just a little pricey with the two gun mounts and guns I'd have to add for looks.
I did however take your advice on the willpower.

How do buying programs work? I'm assuming if I want a Pilot program I buy it at the "hacking" price and then can load it on what ever I want.

Pretty much all the aircraft vehicles are like that on cost.

I may be slightly biased, seeing as I'd be bringing my own MMG ...

HTR are statted out in Ghost Cartels.

I think that includes stats for an ambulance.

Interestingly enough, the wiki supports the Hughes Stallion, Ares Citymaster & some stuff even further outside the starting runner cash bracket. (worse, outside the core book)

Quote
HTRs use armored Ares Citymasters with roof-top turreted machineguns loaded with gel-rounds ... or armed Hughes WK-2 Stallions to get to hard-to-reach areas and to airlift clients from dangerous areas.
