Hm...  Few of questions for Wolf - one relevant to chargen directly and two that I'd like to settle before they come up in game.

1: Would it be possible for me to start the game off with my guns Attuned, assuming I take off the appropriate Karma?
2: What would you rule the effect of a spirit possessing a firearm would be?  The text is a little non-specific on this point.
3: Guardian spirits can be summoned with a Combat skill in place of an optional power.  If I were to summon one with the Automatics skill, would I be able to have it assist me in firing my weapons (likely in the form of a teamwork test, perhaps simplified to bought hits or something to ease book-keeping)?  If so, would this be as a modifier, and thus apply after splitting dice pools, or would it be something else and apply before the split?  Would this count as a service per combat, or some other way?

Personally, I think you'd be better off (depending on the Force of the Guardian spirit) to give it control and let it do the shooting. Better Agility and higher Skill.

With Channeling, I get the boosted Agility.  And at the force I can, in practical terms, summon for regular use, my skill will be better.  Between Aptitude and Improved Ability...

Remember, I split my Magic between Adept powers and Mage stuff - Force 4 is all I get before the Drain gets Physical, unless I'm misunderstanding the rule - which I suddenly think I might be.

Still, with the limited dice pool, high Force spirits are generally going to be out of reach.

Good point. The Drain on the higher Force ones would be really killer (maybe literally). I was also thinking more possession mage rather than possession mystic adept. Luckily, by the actual rules, you can still summon based off your full Magic rather than post-split if you really need a "final strike" summoning.

Yeah, it's interesting trying to make everything work together.  I can Edge the roll if I really need higher Force, but for obvious reasons that's not a core piece of strategy.

Yeah, you were misunderstanding the rule and going by the contradictory FAQ explanation. By the actual rules, only the dice pool is affected, Force of spells and spirits and Adept power ratings are based off of full Magic (no matter how certain posters want it to be).

On another note, I just had a cool idea, but I'm not sure if anyone would ever let it fly. Having a mage or an Adept who after a while developing their powers, decided to experiment and after an Initiation start developing the other side of magic becoming a Mystic Adept at that point.

More that I hadn't bothered to check in detail, and was going with the assumption that was more restrictive upon myself.

Still, Force 3 spirit means Agility 10+Automatics 11, for a base of 21.  Split to 11 and 10, add specialization and I'm sitting at 13 and 12.  Feels a bit low.

Got in late last night after flying back from MN, and I haven't had a chance to finish up my character.  I sincerely apologize for my inability to do so, but work made me travel, and they pay the bills, so I had no choice.

I am hoping to finish Grease up today and get a finalized copy posted.

And as far as your split dice pool feeling low?  My normal dice pool with an automatic weapon is like 10 or 12.  NORMAL.

If I want to attack multiple opponents, I'm in the same boat. It's also the main reason I went so high as well, but at least you have one thing going for you--you can still attack twice in a pass without splitting if you want, whereas I have to split to attack twice no matter what and only against separate targets.

Difference is that if I do that, it means the fight's basically over anyways or I'm eating a lot of penalties.

*shrug* I was more commenting on something that'd be nice for the new edition. I realize a melee attack isn't a single strike, but it would be nice if it were the same action type as a ranged attack.

So is the thread getting started this weekend? Or did we officially scare away our GM?

I STILL need to finish my character.  Again, just Background, Contacts, and Knowledge Skills.  The meaty crunchiness of the character is done, just have to add the fluffy pieces.  So I'm ready to start whenever our GM is ready to start.  :)

Hey man, this thread never would've gotten started if it wasn't for you and your thread. I'm all in favor of waiting until your character is good and ready.

I'm just worried we scared Comrade Wolf off. I really wish I was knowledgeable about Shadowrun enough to run my own game, but I'm nowhere near close enough for that. Le sigh.
