Alright fellas, here goes nothing!
I've got 5 chummer files and everyone looks good. I think I'm missing someone but no matter, I said we'd start the game on Thursday so whoever is missing (if anyone is missing) send me that Chummer file and give me your forum name too so I know no one is trying to hijack your spot.
I've never used Invisible Castle before, but that's what we'll be using. The campaign name I'd like you all to use is "The Renraku Breakout" for easy reference. If anyone who's had experience with this site would like to give us a brief tutorial on how it works, your GM would greatly appreciate it.
Once you guys figure out how to post rolls on this thread, I'd like you all to roll for your lifestyle and figure out starting nuyen in here. If there's anything else that we're supposed to do at game start that I'm forgetting, let me know here as well. I'm not sure how to put something in the "spoiler" box once I post something so if someone could enlighten me that'd be great.
Other than that, let's take Wednesday to get our game ready and Thursday we should be getting started! I'm excited to start GM'ing for you guys!
-
By the way, the five chummer files that I got are for:
-
You're missing mine. I'm at work, I'll send it to you as soon as I get home. Sorry about that work's been more hectic than usual this week.
-
To create a spoiler, just type [ spoiler ] "insert spoiler text" [ /spoiler ], without the spaces.
Ex.
This is what it will look like if done properly
-
So using Invisible castle for Shadowrun.
What you're normally going to be doing is the standard roll, which is:
xd6.hits(5)
where x is your dice pool. This will roll x dice and count the number of dice that roll 5 or more. You have to check for glitches yourself though.
If you are using edge then it changes to
xd6.hitsopen(5,6)
where x is your dice pool including edge. This will roll x dice and count the number of dice that roll 5 or more and it'll roll another dice for each 6 you roll. Again you have to check for glitches yourself.
Initiative is a funny one due to the fact that you have a fixed number plus hits. So you have to force invisiblle castle to add to a hits roll.
xd6.minroll(7).hits(5) + xd6.hits(5)
where x is your initiative.
-
Thanks for the run down, Gorean!
You all have all day to roll your lifestyle rolls here and ask any other questions that you may have. Feel free to experiment with Invisible Castle but do remember to use the name "test" when doing so.
-
I rolled my lifestyle as soon as you accepted the character. Granted, I'm only starting with 50 nuyen (due to having a Street lifestyle and living on a low budget), but I can re-roll if you really want me to?
-
Not trying to be a smart ass, but how is a GM supposed to know how much cash you start with otherwise?
Is there another way of doing things on the forums other than taking someone's word for it?
-
OK, here's a question: what method will you use for refreshing edge? As we can't really define a "session" here in PbP we can't go with the basic rulebook suggestion.
-
So starting cash roll
Real starting cash since I can't count (4d6+12=27) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3946131/) (I had to reroll since the first roll I added to much due to leftover build cash)
Which multiplied by $500 makes $13500 starting cash.
-

I will be paying close attention to in game world time. I will refresh Edge completely after a week's time and on a per point basis using general guidelines from the book (being a bad ass).
-

If I was going to lie about the amount of nuyen I am starting with, I'd certainly tell you that I have more than 50 nuyen. :D
Anyhow, let me know if you really want me to roll again, or if it's cool that I start with 50 nuyen.
-
Took me a while to find the starting nuyen roll table... for those still struggling, it's page 88 of the core book.
1d6=1, 1d6=1, 1d6=3 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3946172/)
Looks like Siren is starting with 250 nuyen. The bohemian lifestyle, and all that.

Severus, I know that sometimes one's tone of voice can be misinterpreted over text so let me clarify what I was trying to say:
I agree with you completely that no one would try to cheat over a 50 Nuyen start.
I know that there will be mistakes on my first run through as a GM but I want to make it as correct as possible the first time through. If people usually roll their lifestyle starting cash in the OOC thread, I just wanted to go through the motions so that I'm positive it works the next time I GM a mission. If there was another way, I was sincere in asking how it's usually done.
Moving on, I'll open up the IC thread tonight after work. If anyone is still working anything out or we're still waiting on your lifestyle rolls, don't worry, you probably won't actually meet your Johnson until tomorrow when the game really starts.

It's all good. Considering you want to be as thorough as possible with your first run through, I'll do the right thing and roll starting Nuyen just to be safe.
Street is 1d6; I had 400 nuyen left over, so that's +4.
1d6 = 2 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3946258/) + 4 = 6. Multiply by 10 gives me 60 nuyen to start with. Woohoo! I get 10 more than I had before!
-
Woops, I noticed that I rolled a glitch IRL and asked you guys to call it the Renraku Breakout. Correct name for mission is "The Bunraku Breakout". Not worries just adjust for future rolls.
-
Rolled starting money. With middle lifestyle i get 4d6*100, with 12 bonus to the roll as more than 1200 nuyen remained after character creation.
Starting money. (4d6+12=29) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3946690/)
So my starting nuyen is 2900
-
Eh, just noticed that the campaign is named as "The Renraku Breakout" on Invisible Castle. I will do my next roll under that campaign name to join the group there.
-
I'll redo the live start on my char tonight and re-email you that chum file. I just used the built in dice roller on Chummer.
I'll do the invisible castle and send it your way tonight.
-
For easier reference: my character's street name is Concrete.
Gustovness, in the second post of this thread you put different markers in front of Siren's character and mine. Does this mean that i should be our star's bodyguard? It is totally acceptable for me.
-
Ren,
I put different markers cause I was screwing around with the forum features :P
You can either disregard or work it in if you guys would like.
-
Money roll (4d6=13) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3946979/) x100 = 1300 starting cash
Which of the campaigns would you like us to use for invisible castle? Renraku or Bunraku?
-
You don't have to reroll if you already did it with Renraku, just go Bunraku from this point on.
-
IC board is up.
Good luck out there you guys. I have no idea how challenging this if going to be so if it's a little TOO easy, I'm sorry in advance!
Also, as a heads up, if any hackers want to point out to me my misinterpretations of how the Matrix works when and if the time comes for that, please be as detailed as possible. I will try my best to brush up on how that stuff works when we get closer to it.
Other than that, remember this is my second time playing Shadow Run and my first time as a GM. GOOD LUCK!

My character sheet is at home (I shoulda just forwrded the chum file to my laptop too) so I'll get my post done when I get home in the am.

== Description ==
Blonde, petite, attractive-but-not-quite-gorgeous. She has a small, slightly upturned nose and smattering of birthmarks on her left cheek.
== Background ==
A local celebrity in the music scene, Alicia Redford is known for her jazzy, bluesy renditions of popular hits, poems and folk songs. It is an open secret that she has more than a little magic in her voice, leading to that double-edged "you should really see her live" quality.
Her career as a runner under the obvious-in-retrospect moniker "Siren" is a relatively new phenomenon. The nuyen is good, but she knows she will have to someday decide between her music career and her criminal career. She comes from a low-class background, so she is comfortable with stealing, cheating and lying, She longs to be a musician for a living, but doubts she has the talent to break out of the local scene.
== Concept ==
Face/Adept with little to no combat ability. She can defend herself with her taser, but if she ends up in the middle of a firefight something has gone very, very wrong. Negotiation and distraction is her stock and trade, however.
A note on contacts: I initially created her with free contact x 3 in Chummer, since that seemed like a popular house rule on these forums. Under RAW, though, this means she's a heft 21 BP over. If the GM decides he doesn't want to do free contacts in any way, shape or form, we can just assume she's running without any real underworld contact (understandable, seeing as she's relatively new to the underworld). Besides, she's charming enough that I'm sure she'lll pick up a few.

Some elaboration on my IC post: according to the few examples of PbP i sorted through before joining it might speed up the game if we dont wait for the GM to call for tests. So i included several tests in my post with results (i thought they have relevance). If Gustovness also thinks those are relavant he can share info based on them. Or not.
@Gustovness: Is this OK or do you want us to wait for you to call for tests?

This was my mistake. I won't penalize anyone for this rule and I'll just remember to implement it the next time I GM. I know I said no house rules but I should have specified that it included "that one that's practically official on these boards." For now, don't worry about it.

I completely agree with you. Just keep them in the little spoiler tags to keep the thread looking "pretty".

The meeting place is a typical one story Italian restaurant.
I feel that most of you should have arrived there with plenty of time, so let's say you can each get there as early as half an hour before the meet (8:30am) if you want to.
Regardless of what time you arrive:
The window curtains are closed so you can't see inside. It's still early and you can't see any activity that seems out of the ordinary.
Let me know what you guys want to do and I'll fill in the blanks :D
-
A technical question regarding the character data you guys posted here: is there a way to export data from the chummer file in that format or you all typed it in the post?
-
@Gustovness: I'll post this in an IC post, but Trig will be looking to see if there are alleys around the building, and if so whether the restaurant has other exits.
@Ren: I copy and paste the form and fill in my info, I'm unaware of a way to directly import chummer info.
-

An easyish way is to print the chummer file and in the print dialog select text. Then you can just copy the output to clipboard and then paste into a post

== Description ==
Concrete is an over 2 meters tall, 140 kilograms ork. Short-cropped black hair and well-kept clothes suggest a military background but the lighted cigarette (or some other similar item) always in his mouth and the smile present most of the time gives him a casual outlook. His eyes rarely stop at one place for a long time, constantly keeping tabs of his surroundings seems a second nature. He usually wears well-made and enduring fatigues and a discreetly armored jacket, and rarely leaves home without at least a concealed taser.
Despite what his look suggest Concrete is not militant. He likes a certain order of things (otherwise drek hits the fan too frequently) but does not really push for that order. He likes to deal with situations without resorting to violence but knows that sometimes "might makes right" is the only possibility, and he feels sorry for those who try to contradict this fact of life (he also does not hide how he feels about them). He knows all the big and most of the small clubs in Seattle and if not at work when visiting, likes to enjoy the services provided.
== Background ==
Concrete first wanted to be an athlete but sometime in his teens he was impressed by the story and outlook of an ork bodyguard who heroically saved his charge's life. From then on he trained to be one of those standing in the background in expensive (and armored) suits. He started working for a corporation hiring out bodyguards at the age of 18 and quickly gained the recognition of his employers with his dedicatedness. However, during several years of work he lost his idealism as he had to protect some people he would have better liked to shoot. He started to smoke heavily and to openly speak about his views on some clients. Therefore, when the company wanted a scapegoat for a botched job he seemed the ideal choice. He barely avoided a legal suit but lost his licence as a professional bodyguard. As he did not have any other skills it was an obvious choice to continue in the shadows. He is a freelancer bodyguard now with some knowledge of but no ties to any big underground organization. He feels no bitternes as he now accepts his fall as necessary.
== Concept ==
Elite bodyguard

Concrete just recognized Siren. Her poor infiltration roll didn't stand a chance against Concrete's perception + knowledge of the circles she travels in so I defaulted that throw to him recognizing her. If you guys want to chit chat IC while we wait for the other two runners to post their "arrival posts" that's cool.
A note to Lord and Lac, please pay attention to the time. It's 8:45am and Concrete just recognized Siren. Needle won't be walking into the restaurant for another 5-10 minutes. Don't worry about posting the exact time like I did on my latest post that'll confuse everyone. Just make little references to hint as to where in time you're doing things as you arrive (ie, "Lord walked passed by the soykaf stand and no one was there) to imply that you did that closer to the 8:30am mark as opposed to the 8:45am mark. You can also say something like "Lord walked past an orc and an elf drinking a soykaf" to let me know if you passed by later. That way, your character doesn't necessarily recognize anyone, but you're letting me know where in time you're telling your side of the story from as well so that I can take appropriate action.

I'm fine with him recognizing her, but he wouldn't recognize "Siren." He'd recognize Alicia Redford, the singer and frontlady of a band called Cutpurse. Siren is her shadowrunning handle, and she's not dumb enough to get up on stage and use it as a stage name, too. Can we retcon this little bit of minutae, please?
I know trying to keep her famous singer persona and her shadowrunning persona separate was/is an endeavor doomed to fail, but as a new shadowrunner there's no reason why Concrete would know the name "Siren."
EDIT: Ah, cool, I see Ren already picked up on this. Nice.

I agree with you completely. I was going to say the same thing but Ren beat me to the punch. Good job Ren :D

Concrete, roll a perception + charisma opposed test to determine what happens with Siren's etiquette test. I'm looking at page 131 of the core rule book under social modifiers table and I think Siren should have figured in a -2 dice pool modifier since she is kind of agitated as well as a distracted (looking at AR 'zine, looking at restaurant, not much sleep).
I'm not trying to be over bearing, we just have some extra time on our hands while we wait for the rest of the team and I wanted to see what you guys thought of this interpretation of the rules. Am I on the right track?
Considering that Concrete is a probably a fan of Siren (or Redford) I'd give her a positive modifier for that. The "fan" modifier under leadership is +2 so it cancels out.
We'll consider Siren the defender here since Concrete is the one probing and asking questions so if you tie, she wins :)

Sounds good to me... I just hope Siren doesn't take a penalty the whole mission just because she failed to get her beauty sleep?
I was about to ask what I should roll to deduce that Concrete is in fact one of the runners there for the meet and not just a fan, but... I think our resident troll might have just simplified the whole thing for us a fair bit.
-
OK. I am not sure which dice pool modifiers apply (perception or social) so i rolled both. Please choose which you want to apply.
This one with Perception bonuses: CHA(3) + Perception(3) + 'warez(3) + Qualities(4) (13d6.hits(5)=5) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3948367/)
This one with empathy software: CHA(3) + Perception(3) + Empathy software(3) (9d6.hits(5)=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3948378/)
EDIT: as an afterthought, maybe both, since this is a social perception roll ;D

Yeah so it should be a CHA + Perception + Qualities + Empathy Software roll, right? Roll it again like that if you agree.

I just realized I forgot to add in my knowledge skills (been a really harsh week). Mind if I edit them in a few minutes?
-
Reiper: I'm afraid you can't add anything in that has to do with the mob or any bit of story that has been divulged so far. Sorry, but I'm just trying to keep things fair. Go ahead and throw together some knowledge skills but, again, no points that have anything to do with already divulged story background.
Edited: My mistake, she was still outside.
-
I was referencing Lasciel with my introduction, sorry for the confusion.

I didn't plan on it. At the most it would be the Itallian language. It wont be any mob related or anything. I would have done it earlier but it seems one of our servers just went down at work and all hell broke loose.
BTW am I reading this right?
We have Siren, the Orc and Troll across the street from the Restaraunt, Lasciel in the parking lot, and the other guy (sorry I forgot the name) walked into the restaraunt correct?
-

Yeah that threw me off, assumed you were talking to Siren since they were getting cozy, Lash hasn't really gone near anyone just yet. I'll be posting a lot more tomorrow, today's just been hell at work.

I'm beginning to think I'm invisible here. Whoever just walked into the restaurant had to go by me as I was peering in through the window (which he apparently didn't see), and you've now forgotten that I'm there.
-
If you read the IC post, you'll see that I corrected this, Severus.
-
Are we still waiting on posts from somebody? I feel like we're moving pretty fast and I'm worried we might've left somebody in the dust.
Just want to make sure we're good to go ahead before Siren goes all FACE MODE ACTIVATE on these people.

Go ahead and go facemode.
I was going to assense everyone but I can't figure out my password for invisible castle, so will do it when I get home if I have to.
-
Looks like we're more or less waiting on Lord, too. I think I'll call it for now and let you guys catch up... we've been moving pretty quick, I think.
Nobody say anything too stupid!
-
Severus, I think my IC post was directed at you (I used the wrong name) since Lasch is still in the parking lot. I asked who you are ;)
-

I assumed we all followed them in when the door was opened and Mass came out, or at least that's how I read it as us all going in.
Sorry for going all generic on the assensing as the orc, troll, etc but since she doesn't know any of you. And Snape, sorry I can't find your sheet so I'm not certain what species you are, will go back through and catch up on everyone's sheets tonight when I get home.
-
Lord arrived. He's the one with the gym bag. Yes, we're moving fast, but I'm giving everyone a day to take action before moving the plot forward, so we're good so far :D

I filled in what the NPC auras are projecting. I really took a stab in the dark here as I've never had to describe an aura, what it does, or what it looks like before. I read the short quip the rule book has about it and carried on.
I'll let the rest of you fill in what Lasciel perceives with your auras as it's mainly emotion that she's seeing with the low hits and I'd like you all to provide that for your own characters. Also, if you want to describe the aura in a different way, go for it.
-
Added the knowledge skills, couldn't add it into Chummer since it was a live file, will fix that this weekend with a new copied file.
Nothing that may help too much right now, except maybe bars and clubs but that kind of makes sense with her background. But if you want I can nix that.

Sorry if my post ended up a little confusing... mixed up Ashley's and Maria's names on the first go. Couldn't help it... Maria sounds like more of a mafia don's daughter's name to me.
Also let me know if any of those rolls are off. The Leadership role might be wrong. Also let me know if that last one requires Etiquette or something.

If i remember well Lasciel was a prostitute earlier.

Maria IS the Don's daughter. Point out your confusion, I might have mixed up the names myself while writing without having my coffee this morning.
-

'
Dude you're totally right. "play with their minds to make them thing they banged" and all that. Sorry, hadn't had my coffee yet when I asked that.
-
Bleh, let me go back and change the names again, then... I read somebody's post and it said they were speaking TO Maria. Just to be clear, the girl in the room is Ashley, and we're looking for Maria, right?
EDIT: Found the post that confused me:
She closed her eyes, forcing out the astral sight before opening them again, I am truly sorry to hear your daughter is missing sir, she said towards the Don, the emotion in her aura actually got to her, as much as she needed the money and wanted the reputation, helping someone in so much distress seemed even more important to her for once. Please forgive me sir if any of my questions for Ashley come across wrong, I only have your daughter's best interests in heart and do not mean to offend.
Etiquette test (8d6.hits(5)=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3949180/)
Not sure if its needed or not, but if it is the roll is to not offend the Don
She turned to Ashley, Ashley, were you or Maria drinking or anything like that when you were out? Or did anyone buy Maria any drinks, or did she leave any drinks unattended even for a moment? Or was she getting any more attention from others than usual?
Maria starts, "Well yeah we had a few drinks but we wasn't wasted or anythin' like that I swear. Maria is a pretty girl, ya know? There's always creeps trying to come at us and buy us drinks. I can't say I noticed anyone especially creepy talking to to her at the show. As for slipping something in her drink... God I don't even want to think about that but... It might have been the only way Maria would have left the club with some guy like that so quick, ya know? My friend is no slut! She wouldn't just LEAVE with some guy especially when we were at the show together!"
-
Yes, we are talking to Ashely and looking for Maria. Is it bad that while reading Ashley's story the only thing I could think of was JWoww from Jersey Shore? lmao
-
I would like to point out that the Don left the room after telling us about the situation. That is the reason why i converse with Massimo.
Please dont address the Don in the IC thread.
-
Whoops, missed that "into the kitchen part", changed it so I went to Massimo instead.
-
@Severus: Please let us react to your actions next time. I am pretty sure that Concrete can reach Needle before she reaches her bus and i surely would not let her take the only physical evidence with just that side note about her comm. In this case let us say that Concrete was too much into the talk with Massimo (despite the high Perception pool he has) to react fast enough and he certainly doesn't want to look worse in front of an employer by starting to shout at her.
-
Just realised that I'd not posted character sheet

After reading through the most recent in-character posts, I think my character's negative quality of Uncouth might not be the best fit here. Am I wrong in thinking that maybe she shouldn't be a part of this group?
-
You've got to remember this is also the first time our characters are meeting. So at the moment they're probably all sort of not sure how to react to you. Like my character said, she has the temper of a Troll, which is meant as a compliment from him ;)
-
IMO these not-the-best fits are one of the two greatest opportunities for good RP. I say lets try to work out the differences IC.
Of course it is your decision. I just say why not try.

You've got to keep in mind that we have no way of knowing your character is 'uncouth' or socially maladjusted or whatever. We literally just met her. For all we know, you might be taking that commlink and rushing it over to the cops or the mob's enemies or something. All we have is your word and the fact that Massimo saw fit to hire you.

I'm all about role-playing things out. I just don't want to irritate you guys PERSONALLY with her actions. Your characters will get over it, and we can RP it all out. I just want to make sure the players aren't irritated.
-
My mistake about getting the names backwards, guys, yes, Maria is missing and Ashely is the friend you were questioning.
Padawan, no, it's not bad, I got my inspiration for RP'ing her from Jwow lol
I agree with the comment that the mismatch in characters makes for the best story. I like Needle so far. I think you've nailed the uncouth part as well. I can see how the "Uncouth" trait could be so easily mistaken for "is an asshole". You haven't fallen down that hole, however. Needle is quirky and "off" but not flat out rude.
-
Before Needle can walk out, Trog puts his hand on her shoulder. "Why leave? It's early in the day, do whatever it is you do here and we can start right away. If anything it'll let us finish this job quicker."
On her way out, Needle replies "Because the facilities I have on my bus are better equipped to handle what I'm about to do to this commlink than just doing it here in the open. You are welcome to come with me if you like."
The exchange doesn't stop her from leaving, and it doesn't stop her from doing what she was going to do.
Consider that a ret-con for Trog stopping her. She's still going to her bus, she's still driving to The Skeleton, and she's still hacking the commlink. Unless someone physically stops her, that is.
Now, I must say, that even though I really DO like Needle's personality (I seriously do, don't change it!), this wasn't cool... especially the "exchange doesn't stop her from leaving" part. That's up for me to decide, not a player. With Lord not having posted anything yet today, we could have prolonged the encounter a little longer by AT LEAST rolling some sort of opposed test rather than saying "the troll didn't stop me."
A better way to express this situation would have been "Needle snatched the commlink and started heading for the door" and leave it at that. Lord, the one who hasn't posted yet today (and that's fine, it's 1 post a day minimum) is the other hacker on our team and if anyone is going to dispute Needle's walking out it's going to be him. If there weren't any other hackers on the team (as might be the case with a run that was planned out with time), this might be the case and I would just shrug it off, but I'm going to have to rewind time here a bit...
I'm going to stop Needle at being right outside the door, heading off to her bus. If Lord wants to interject, this will give him time to run out after you and then you two can work things out between each other since he does have that right as a character and as a player.
So if Needle could edit her posts to exclude the getting into the bus and running her hacking programs and what not, I'd appreciate it. Don't stop being uncouth though, I'm loving it!

Ok, I seriously disagree with you here. The troll didn't stop Needle, he merely put his hand on her shoulder to ask where she was going. Had he wanted to stop me, he would have posted that he prevented me from leaving. Secondly, his words wouldn't have stopped Needle from continuing on about leaving. He can talk til he's green in the face, but that won't stop her.
Secondly, I really don't like the idea of being railroaded into not leaving, especially when I've got dice rolls attached to my post.
Third, there is nothing stopping anyone from following me, especially when I already ret-conned my actions stating that, at the very least, the troll could come with if he so wished. He chose to stay behind.
You can't tell me to continue playing uncouth and then tell me I have to ret-con my post so I don't leave. Leaving is what she would have done, short of someone physically stopping her.
See, this is what I meant when I asked earlier about my having the quality. I'm playing it the way I see it being played, and it's causing issues.
For the record, I'm not going to ret-con my post. If you want to have some type of accident prevent the bus from physically leaving the scene, fine. But I'm not changing what I did when it's a complete in-character move.
And on the topic of stopping actions at certain points: I refer you to what happens to my character when I log off for the day and then back in during the morning. I had 2 pages of posts to go through where nobody even paid attention to the fact that I was there. Didn't stop anyone else from doing what they wanted. Why should I be any different?
-
Go back to being outside of the restaurant door.
Lord hasn't had time to stop you and he's the likeliest to fight with you over that comlink giving the specialties you both have. I told you all of this already in my last post. Calm down, re read what I said, and you'll see that I'm stopping you from doing to Lord what you claim was done to you yesterday.
No one walked through you yesterday, no one walked past you into the restaurant. Massimo opened the door and let everyone in thanks to your knocking on the door.
Again, go back to outside of the restaurant please.
-
Whatever. I'll edit my post when I'm not on my phone.
This isn't a matter of doing to Gorean what he did to me. Yesterday, he completely ignored that I was I the doorway. But whatever.
-
I'm not sure if Lasciel's assensing roll was high enough, but I suspect it might've been... she probably also notices that Siren has the Astral Beacon quality. Can't find anything specific in the rulebook about it, but I get the sense that it's supposed to be pretty obvious to astral types.

The assensing was mainly just a character thing, I'm sure once we get a chance to talk with everyone then we'll figure out who does what.
I think she would have noticed her aura was different or something along the lines of easier to find or trace just because beacon makes it easier.

Yeah astral beacon doesn't require any hits to spot with assense since it grants bonus dice to assensing tests in the first place.
-
Okay so once we get a response over if the clubbing was planned or not I'll post an IC summary/sample plan and then everyone can chip in as needed.
Is that okay with everyone?
Is Needle still indoors and available to be given an AR note, since she's already stated her commcode is public and not for shadow biz, which means no way of contacting her about the current op.
-
Needle is outside of the restaurant and available for a note, but I'm not 100% sure I understood the rules she laid out for contacting her on it. Based on my understanding, all she asked was for you not to refer to her as "Needle". I would assume that this would carry on to meaning that you shouldn't be too specific about the run at hand and maybe speak in some sort of code or double meaning if you have to reach her through comms.
-
Oh and about the "getting enough hits on the assense" question, I referenced the rule book last night and can't remember the page number exactly now but 1 hit was plenty to detect general emotions.
-
Well, that was worth ret-conning my post. Lord didn't even pay attention to the fact that I was there, nor did he care that I left. In fact, in his flurry of messages, he distinctly left Needle out.
*sigh
Can I go about my business and start hacking now?

I can't see the future, especially not when you state in this thread that you won't be retconning!
-
Sequence of events:
1. Needle pushes her comm code
2. Needle leaves
3. Lord sends messages to everyone but Needle
4. Post ret-conned to show she only made it to the door
Regardless of the ret-con, you failed to acknowledge I was even there. That's the second time someone's done that to her.
-
Snape, I'm honestly not understanding where the OOC indignation is coming from. Just because you were standing in front of the restaurant doesn't mean Lord was required to mention you in his post; you were looking in the windows, he walked right past you into the door. That's it. This is the only thing I can think of when you talk about your character being ignored, as you were otherwise interacted with normally... Siren pointed her out to Concrete outside the restaurant, everybody acknowledged her taking the commlink and leaving.
And honestly, if you feel like your character is being ignored or marginalized, is moving her to a different location from the rest of the team (without telling them where you're going or giving them time to react) going to solve that? Likely not.
So, serious constructive question: what would you like us to do differently, IC and OOC, so that you can feel more like part of the group?
-
The thing with being ignored outside the restaurant: I was standing directly in the doorway, my hand on the doorknob (and yes, that's in my post), peering into the windows. The only way he could have gone by me is either pushing me out of the way, or not acknowledging that I was even there.
Inside the restaurant: I pushed my comm code to the rest of the group, and even asked people not to call me Needle on it. Lord pushed messages to the entire team EXCEPT NEEDLE. That's twice that he intentionally disregarded that I was even there.
So the GM asks me to ret-con my post so I'm just outside the door in the event Lord (who is the other hacker) may have a chance to react to my post. So I do that (against my better judgement), and Lord either doesn't care that I've gotten the commlink OR didn't read where I got it and started to leave. So make that three times he's disregarded anything my character has done.
Sorry, but at this point I'm not sure what to say. My character - because of Uncouth - would have just up and left. And now that nobody has tried to stop her - or come with her, even after the open invitation - she's leaving. Is this going to make her accepted by the group? Probably not. But considering nobody has even tried to say anything other than "Hey, just wait a second", she could care less at this point. She has a job to do, and she's trying to do it.
As far as being ignored: Again, I don't know what to say. She tried interacting and didn't get much. She's socially awkward, and the group really didn't do much to change her mind on that front.
Maybe this game isn't for me. I'm playing the character, but it's hard to do so when the GM tells me not to AND at least 1 member of the group has gone out of his way to not even recognize that I'm there. Or was.
-
Just a heads up everyone, I might have a hard time dedicating time to moving the story along today. I haven't forgotten about you all :P Just expect a slower pace over the weekend... I think...

Would you have time to post a response to the last question put to Ashley? The one about the evening being planned or not? Then the team can get together and plan a course of action. Once that's done it should be monday :-)
-
And Massimo's reaction... We need to know if I'm still alive after mouthing off to the mafia :P
-
@Severus: I don't think Lord was intentionally ignoring you, but whatever. He can speak for himself on that matter.
Regarding the commlink stuff, I honestly ignored it because I was confused by it. Keep in mind I'm a very new player and we have a very new GM, to boot. I try to read the Matrix stuff in the rulebook, but my eyes glaze over every time.
Can you give us a brief run-down on exactly what you did with your/our commlinks?
-
@Severus i didn't ignore you. You were the very first line. Lord just had nothing to ask of you. You had blown off trogs attempt to get you to stay, so he assumed he would fail as well. You explicitly asked not to be called Needle should any of us call you and its logical to surmise that you don't want shadow business on it either.
Your post did indeed ask for our commcodes but rather than have Needle wait for them she drove away.
It is polite in both online and in person communication to pause when you are expecting someone to respond. Kindly extend all of us that courtesy in the future.
-
Can you give us a brief run-down on exactly what you did with your/our commlinks?
In shadowrun a commcode is basically your phone number & email.
It's not so much attached to your commlink as given to you by your MSP (Matrix Service Provider) the cost of which is rolled into lifestyle costs. So basically you can have as many as you need and if you buy a disposable commlink it comes with a one week MSP subscription. There are also dark MSPs for the sinless.
Do you want to mention in IC something along the lines of "You know I've always wondered how easy is it to hack a commlink." And I can get Lord to give a quick demo?
-
Guys, i seriously think that we are not heading in the direction of a solution. I think we should try and solve this in the IC thread instead of OOC.
@Snape: yes, Lord waltzed into the restaurant right past/through Needle. It might have been a misread on his part. We are all just human and make mistakes.
@everybody: assuming Needle already started for her bus and everybody else in the restaurant felt this was still not the point to follow her (example), Concrete already started a call in which he invited everybody (also Trog after he finished his exchange with Massimo). Could we please go on from that point? I think it would be a good way to bring the team back together and start to sort things out IC. I brought that post forward by continuing Concrete's words to Needle.
-
Technically, I stated I readied my comm to receive your codes; I never explicitly asked for them.
And she already knows how to hack a commlink - why would she ask for a demonstration? Not to mention that her hacking dice pool is higher than yours.
The aggravation isn't worth it. I get so little gaming in that I don't want to be ganged up on for playing my character. Or have the GM tell me I have to alter posts even though he recognizes that they fit the characters personality. I want to keep playing, but not if I am going to have to deal with this every time Needle does something. I shouldn't be expected to post "hey, I want to do this" and then wait for permission.
-

Pretty sure the "demonstration" offer was directed at me and my character, both of whom don't really understand hacking at all.
-
I shouldn't be expected to post "hey, I want to do this" and then wait for permission.
When you're playing as part of a group and a team, yes you should. Going all the way from receiving the comm to leaving, to getting in your bus and leaving its a lot, uncouth does not mean incapable of being on a team. To then get indignant because you were told to allow others time to respond is beyond ridiculous in my opinion.
I get you feel ignored for whatever reason, but ignoring the team -and your GM- is not a solution.
-
Padawan, all I'll say is that I don't like your tone. And that she has no concept of what a team is due to her being uncouth.
And no, I won't ask for permission to do something. Not will I allow a GM to railroad me into ret-conning a post because he doesn't like what I've written - even if he had stated he liked my RPing of the quality.
I give up. This game isn't for me. First I get ignored, now im getting ganged up on. I will respectfully bow out so this situation can come to a close.

Just my two cents real fast.
1) Feeling ignored at first, I don't think that was intentional by anybody. We have a combination of new and experienced people, and it can be difficult to get everybody on the same page immediately. He may have missed your post, I admit I missed it too or I would have said something to you on your character with Lasciel. It wasn't intentional by anyone. But when you have an asynchronous style of posting (not everybody online at the same time) things like this are going to happen from time to time, especially since it seemed we had a ton of posts get done in a short time between Siren and the others. I was even a tad confused where everyone was at first too. It was human error.
2) I understand your RPing uncouth and having no concept of working in a group. It is a very interesting approach honestly. But at the same time you do have to realize that while uncouth can make it more difficult for work together as a team, but walking out with the commlink is a little over the top in my opinion. I understand you were RPing the NQ, and that's awesome that you actually are into the RP aspect of the game, it did seem to go a little over the top on making it exceedingly difficult for the team as a whole.
3) Not getting the new comm messages, a lot of it probably has a combination of confusion on our parts, and in all honesty with my character, she's really empathetic but seemingly abandoning a team would irritate the hell out of her. I almost actually picked poor self control, vindictive and that would have potentially caused her to attack you or her van. But I didn't so I wouldn't RP that out.
And just a final question on your character. Again with how you are RPing uncouth, how would your character have gotten any reputation to even be called by Mass for this job if you have never worked as a team before?
If this sounds like I'm ganging up on you, or attacking you in some way, I'm not. I'm just pointing out a few things I see from my perspective, and I absolutely understand that you won't see everything that I see from your POV just as I don't see everything as you do from your POV.
-
And just a final question on your character. Again with how you are RPing uncouth, how would your character have gotten any reputation to even be called by Mass for this job if you have never worked as a team before?
That's easy - she's dual-skilled. She's both a hacker and a medic. Everybody needs medical attention, and if she happened to give some to someone he knows, he could have gotten her name that way.
Look, I'm just trying to RP the quality as I see it. And while she is socially inept, she isn't above learning to be better. Hell - she told the troll he could come with if he wanted to. He declined. She has a job to do, and she is trying to do it.
Think of it this way: In The Big Bang Theory, how many times has Dr. Sheldon Cooper just done something without explanation, regardless of what the rest of the group says or does? Considering her personality is based on Dr. Cooper's, her behavior isn't that far off.
-
Technically, I stated I readied my comm to receive your codes; I never explicitly asked for them.
And she already knows how to hack a commlink - why would she ask for a demonstration? Not to mention that her hacking dice pool is higher than yours.
As I was replying to Bewilderbeast (indicated by quoting him) my intention was to answer his question.
As to our relative dice pools they are:
- You: Exploit 5 (limited due to response 5 commlink) + Hacking Skill 4 + Encephalon 1 + Pushed 1 + Neocorticals 3 giving a total of 14 (16 when hacking on the fly)
- Me: Exploit 5 + Hacking 6 + Pushed 1 + Neocorticals 3 giving a total of 15
The aggravation isn't worth it.
Your still missing the point. You should compare and contrast your posts with the posts of the other team members. Our posts seldom contain more than one action that would have a response. That is to allow the GM or another player to respond and join in. It is afterall a group game.
He could of gotten her name, but that doesn't answer Reiper's question about Why would she be called for a team run?
Look, I'm just trying to RP the quality as I see it. And while she is socially inept, she isn't above learning to be better. Hell - she told the troll he could come with if he wanted to. He declined. She has a job to do, and she is trying to do it.

And yet Dr. Cooper still manages to work within a team, he's brusque and annoying yet understands the need and benefits of working with others.
-
Looking at the dynamics of the team as it currently stands, and the roles they could fullfill.
Needle - Primary Hacker with Command Rigger, Medical and Transport as backup roles.
Lasciel - Support Mage with Combat and Medical as backup roles.
Concrete - Tank with Combat, Transport and Situational Face as backup roles.
Trog - CQB focused with combat as backup role.
Siren - Face focused
Lord - Backup Hacker, Face, Combat
Overall its a rather good team.
-
It appears that my skills aren't really needed. Add to that the fact that no matter how I explain it, everyone has a problem with how I'm playing uncouth. It will be best if I just drop.
-
At this point, Severus, I'm not sure what else to say other than good luck in future games. Sorry it didn't work out.
Moving on, I've discovered that I built Siren partially incorrectly. I didn't realize there was an augmented cap to skills. As a result, a lot of her adept points (about a full point, I believe) are giving her no benefit whatsoever currently. When our GM gets back, I'll like permission to tweak the distribution of her adept points. I won't be giving her any dramatic new powers, just re-allocating some Improved Ability points over to abilities that will actually give her some benefit. This won't affect any other rolls that have happened in the game so far. Let me know if this is kosher.
In the meantime, I'll keep an eye on the thread but most likely won't be posting until we get word on how our GM wants to remove Snape's character from the story. I just don't want to complicate things any more than they have to be.
-

We understood how you were playing it, and we attempted to incorporate you back into the game. You are the one thinking we're all freaking out about something when we are just trying to find a way to get it to work out still.
If you drop out, good luck to ya.
-
@Reiper I'll put a post up once we've the Planned/Unplanned response.
Or do you want a separate earlier.

No, see, you guys were freaking out. I was told by the GM - point blank, no less - to change my post to state I was only outside the restaurant. Every time I tried to explain why she was doing what she was doing, I was met with you guys telling me I was wrong, or that I needed to change. I was even told on at least one occasion that I had to ask for permission to do anything. And in the event you don't believe me, here's the quoted post:
I shouldn't be expected to post "hey, I want to do this" and then wait for permission.

I get you feel ignored for whatever reason, but ignoring the team -and your GM- is not a solution.
So I've tried to play the character. I've even been asked why she would be asked to be on this team knowing her quirks, and all I can say is that maybe someone knows she needs to learn how to be a team player. But at every turn I've been told to change the character. If I change her, then she's not the character I want to play.
I am playing her personality. I asked if people wanted to go with her. I even changed my post - against my better judgement due to it feeling like I was being railroaded by the GM. And I still feel like I have to defend the character. Nobody wanted to go with her. Nobody wanted to include her in the flurry of messages to find out where she was headed or why. And nobody stopped her from leaving. She's been ignored; I've been ganged up on.
What other option is there other than me dropping so the game continues without issue? Are you all willing to live with her personality and let me role-play it?

Then just leave instead of trying to get our pity. We never said to not do it, but to take more time BETWEEN doing things that are major events. And saying that "the exchange doesn't stop her from leaving" is the territory of the gm, and a very large assumption when a character with a 9str has his hand on your shoulder.
Not to mention you have been confrontational to our GM, who is, whether you like it or not, the final law in the game. You can go ahead and contest something, but when your argument ends in "but whatever", you're being disrespectful. You felt ignored and that made your world crash down around you, and you got pissy. That's nothing to do worth the character, that's on you.

Nobody wanted to include her in the flurry of messages to find out where she was headed or why.
I don't know if you really didn't notice my two posts dedicated to contact Needle on the comm (it might be a human mistake as i said in one of my earlier posts) but instead of dwelling on things it would greatly have helped the situation (and on my part it still would help, i can't tell what the others are thinking though) if you answered at least one of them.
To make things clear: i just want to go on with the game. For that, IMO we need to finish this endless quarrel and decide - as a group - how we want to go on. Does anyone have anything against the group composure staying the same? Also, what does our GM say? (Gustovness, please, say something, we need to hear your thoughts on the matter.)
Guys, please respond to this honestly because if we don't solve this i don't see how we can go on with the game.
-
No need. I'm out. For reasons I won't go into here. But your GM has been informed via PM.
-
It appears Snape has made up his mind. Like I said earlier, good luck to you in future games. Sorry it didn't work out.
I'm going to refrain from posting in the IC thread until we get some word from Gustovness on how he wants to handle the extraction of Snape's character. I also want his permission on tweaking Siren's adept points. I won't be posting, but I promise I'll still be keeping an eye on the thread. Really looking forward to getting on to it with the rest of you.
-
I have no problem with Needle being uncouth
I have every problem with Severus Snape acting in an rude manner.
To break down your actions, in a single post your character did:
- Take the victims commlink
- Communicate her wishes over payment.
- Give her commcode to everyone
- Setup her commlink in to receive other characters commcodes.
- Walk towards the resturant exit
- Walk out the resturant and to the carpark
- Get into your bus and beginning driving away
- Get into your rigger cocoon
- Hack an access into the commlink
- Begin six different data browse searches
- Read the results of your searches.
- Begin decrypting any encrypted data
Everyone else had posts that were roughly:
- Ask one or two questions
- sit at a table or walk up to a npc
Can you see the difference? We dont do this to make life easy writing posts. We do this to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to contribute to the game. If you had done three separate posts with say (1-5) in one post, 6-9 in another and the last 10-12 there wouldn't have been this issue.
So you can either take the constructive criticism on board and carry on playing or you can cement your reputation on these boards as a Drama Queen. The choice is yours.
-
So, to put it bluntly, I'm supposed to take public beratings over my choice of character and her actions by multiple people in the game, be forced to change my in-post actions so that nobody else is butt-hurt, ask for permission to do anything, and then ask for seconds....
...or be labeled a drama queen?
I'd rather be labeled the drama queen. I may have been rude, yes. And if I have been, then I do apologize (whether or not you accept it, as that's your call). But I refuse to be railroaded by the GM and ganged up on by the rest of the players. If that makes me a drama queen, then I'd rather find a different group to play in.
-
Gorean may have worded it a little harshly, but he's absolutely right. Nobody here takes issue with you playing an Uncouth character*. Nobody here takes issue with the actions your character took. The only thing we're really objecting to is that she took so many actions in a single post without giving other characters time to react (this was, if you recall, the only reason you were asked to retcon your post. Had you simply divided Needle's actions into separate posts and given other players time to react to them this would have been a total non-issue. I'm sorry if this was not clear).
Taking only a few actions per post in order to give your players time to react and respond is a pretty basic rule of play-by-post etiquette, regardless of what system you're using. That is really the only thing we are upset about. I'm sorry if this makes you feel persecuted (again, this is not our intent), but if you really cannot understand that then perhaps it is best if you find another game.
*I know when we first posted characters, I PMed you and advised against Uncouth. I'm sorry if I offended you with my unsolicited build advice; that was not my intent. Just for the record, I really have no issue with you playing an Uncouth character and that is not the issue here.
-
I want to be very clear with all of you over some things. First off, the timing of my post is just as important as timing in our game (which you guys will find out why later but back to RL stuff).
It's 2:06pm Eastern Time Monday as of my writing this. I tried to take a step back and allow tempers to come down over the weekend. This, unfortunately, was not the case. I purposefully walked away from the "table" for two days and hoped that things would cool off. They didn't. Anyone can have issues. Each of you has come to me noticing faults in your own character sheets and things of that sort. Whatever, we work them out, it's not a big deal. This situation we had with one of our team members last week, however, seemed to be irreconcilable.
I don't want to drag this out. I don't want to bad mouth anyone. I've asked Severus to excuse himself from the game as of 10 minutes ago. I'd like everyone to take this post as the end to this issue. I haven't even looked at the IC post yet since Friday (currently on lunch and eating /getting caught up on everything OOC has taken up most of it). As of now, I will take over Needle and I will find a way for her remove herself from the mission as well in as much of and RP way as possible.
Again, Severus is no longer playing and I'm asking everyone to refrain from any bad mouthing, shit talking, or even general references to the OOC aspect of Needle if you can.
I honestly don't have enough time left in my lunch break to read what has happened in IC and move the story along in a genuine manner. I'm getting off work in about two and a half hours though (late lunches rock) and I'll update the story before I head out to run my errands for the evening.
I'll catch up in a bit.

So what is everyones thoughts on our next steps?
im thinking we go to Skeleton as a group, since we look like hired muscle, with Siren playing the part of the principal and try talk the management into giving us the footage. Backup would be to hack their system. Backup backup would be for trog to start hitting people till they talk.
Sound reasonable?
should we try get everyone bar trog into a suit then? To give the impression of people working for a syndicate? Then trog can be our obvious mailed fist to Sirens velvet glove.
-
Thanks, Gustovness.
And yeah, Gorean, that's pretty much the plan. We might have to play it by ear on whether or not people recognize Siren once we get to The Skeleton, though. If people recognize her as musician (pretty likely at a music venue) then it's probably best she not go around acting like a mafia enforcer. Instead, she'd have to run interference, pretend to be interested in performing there or something like that. Maybe she could pass Trog off as a bodyguard? Possibly Concrete, too. Lord could pose as a manager/music producer pretty easy.
Hacking and punching are good back-ups, though. No argument there.
-
Oh, also, in regards to people messaging me about little errors they created during character creation. Thanks for bringing this up to my attention, but don't sweat it. Keep bringing this up to my attention so I can look for those things next time I GM and therefore, I can learn, but don't worry about it if I don't say it has to be changed. As I stated in the recruiting forum, this will be a relatively short game and it's not part of some over arching campaign (unless you guys mess up, then I have to come up with some alternate ending :P) so any little mistakes in character creation won't be felt long term or anything.
-
Good point about Sirens fame. Could we maybe use her still as the principle so not so much being mafiosa but clearly working for someone bigger. So we don't appear as just some goons, albeit heavily armed goons.
so something along the lines of:
"Mr Johnson has heard the daughter of a friend had some trouble here and would like to extend a neighbourly hand to resolving the unfortunate issue. If we could have your security footage for the time in question we can be on our way"
its just Siren could talk the wallet off a scotsman and since a sharp tongue has cheaper medical bills than the fallbacks id like to use her talents.
-
This sounds like a good idea, Trog can stay by Siren's side acting the part of bodyguard. And if we wanna pull the "Trog not like when softies no cooperate" then smash a table or something... I don't think he'd have an issue with that ;)
Of course... after Trog thinking the bar is anti-troll... this could turn out very very badly if any staff makes a bad enough comment.
-
The issue is Siren wants to keep her singing persona and runner persona separate. So asking for security tapes as Alicia Redford isn't going to work (for her, at least). We should probably hash this out IC, though... Lord could maybe convince her it's necessary to finally "cross the streams" as it were of her double-life.
-
Since Lash is a semi face, she could do the Charisma based rolls with Siren's assistance.
Lash is being blackmailed because tape from the Skeleton that night showed her in a compromising situation, but her blackmailers won't show her the tape, so she's trying to get a look at them herself so she knows whether or not to pay up. And Siren's her friend and just trying to help out. Well Alecia Redford is her friend trying to help out.

Haha, I love it. This totally works. This can be Plan A.
If nobody recognizes Siren (or seems not to recognize her), being obvious goons and demanding the tape can be Plan B.
Having Siren and the rest cause a distraction while Lord hacks and tries to retrieve the tapes can be Plan C.
Demanding the tape with Trog's fists can be Plan D.
And that's just the tapes... keep in mind we have a bouncer to question too, plus some other stuff I might before forgetting (gotten a little rusty over the weekend). At any rate, I'll try to get a post in later tonight and we can start to hash this stuff out IC.
-
First, i am positively against seeming the syndicate enforcers. We as independent "specialists" were hired to hide the fact that there is a syndicate connection (as Massimo stated somewhere IC). Also you should consider somewhere before Plan D that Concrete can be a very scary person even without resorting to actual violence so a timely emphasis by his words can very well give the final push to a reluctant party.
But i also think that part of this planning and conversation should be resolved IC. Especially to see is someone else recognizes Siren, or if she brings this up to try and solve the job or tries to keep her other side hidden. The characters don't know each other as well as we have seen their stats (and there are also some things Chummer does not cover 8)).
As for the bouncers, the velvet glove plus scaring combination should be enough. We should also consider dropping some nuyen here and there.
-
Alright guys, I posted in the IC thread. Let's move this story forward! Once everyone states in IC where they're going next, how they're getting there, and when they're getting there (ie, maybe one person plans to arrive first while someone else scopes the place out, whatever, up to you guys) I'll fill in the blanks and describe The Skeleton then.
As for now, I'm heading off the Best Buy. Finally found what I'm going to spend all my X-Mas gift cards on: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Transformer+Pad+Infinity+Tablet+with+32GB+Memory+-+Champagne+Gold/5716414.p?id=1218685675730&skuId=5716414&ref=06&loc=01&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=5716414&extensionType={adtype}:{network}&s_kwcid=PTC!pla!{keyword}!{matchtype}!{adwords_producttargetid}!{network}!{ifmobile:M}!{creative}
Should be nice to post SR from when I'm on my honeymoon next week (don't worry I'll have PLENTY of time to post) as well as for when SR:Returns comes out :D
-
I've got a couple more questions for Ashley, and then I want to try and squeeze some extra money out of Massimo (got to use that Negotation skill while it's hot relevant). I can't post just yet (at work, can only lurk for the most part), but I'll try and get something up on my lunch break in a couple of hours. If other characters want to head out and start planning IC, that should work.
EDIT: In-character post is up. Going to try and squeeze an advance out of Massimo, no matter how small. My understanding is it's something of a face rite of passage in Shadowrun. After that, I'm ready to go to The Skeleton.
-
Alright guys, I'm going to move the story forward towards The Skeleton. Tomorrow, Thursday, I'l let you guys describe how and exactly what it is that you want to do when you get there. If you can post early enough, I'll be able to describe what you see in a bit more detail allowing you to post more once you get there.
Make sure you mention who you're riding with. Don't be too polite just jump in someone's car, I think Siren already offered spots for three people. I doubt any of you will be offended if someone jumps in your vehicle. I know Lord has a car too and only Lash has a bike.
Another thing, you guys are painting beautiful pictures of your characters. Their personalities are so unique and I'm loving it. However, if you could mention your character's name in your posts every time, preferably in the beginning of your post somewhere, it'll make it easier on me since I still get usernames and character names mixed up at times.

Will do, I have the same problem tracking who is who, especially Trog and Concrete.
Will try to start my posts off with
::Lasciel:: on the top line

Trog will want to check out the alleys and try to find a way to get a pic of the person's face who recognized Maria. Those are his two goals, but I think going in beside Lash (seems like she'll be the one handling facing) as her bodyguard might be a good idea.

Feel free to look around first though,
And just a quick question for our GM, are you fine with us assisting each other with our con? Basically lets say Siren does the talking, Lash makes her con roll as well and her successes add to Siren's dice pool (so if I get 3 successes, she gets +3 dice to the con). Basically would allow for Siren to talk and Lash sniffle and cry, helping sell the con.
Or if Lash needs to do the talking, then Siren's presence and showing comfort to the distraught girl can help out. As far as the muscle, trying to think of a good legitimate excuse for them off of the top of my head. Although the con could be more along the lines of whoever she was with is being blackmailed, and she needs to find out what information they blackmailers have to help her 'associate' find out what they really have, and the muscle works for the associate. Although that doesn't sound quite as good.

I'm honestly hoping that somebody recognizes Siren as Alicia Redford at this point. If they do, Trog's my bodyguard. Don't believe me? Here's a crazy high Con check. Boom. Now you do!
Concrete, I'm thinking, seems subtle enough to blend in by himself. Being an ork in an ork rock bar should help, heh. Lord is so obviously Mr. Moneybags based on his appearance that no legitimate business establishment would object to him strolling in. So Lash, Siren and Trog could go in as a group (with Lash and Siren covering for Trog as necessary), and the other two could filter in later. Needle would hang back as NPC support (I think we can also assume that Concrete and Lord grabbed a ride with her... she does have a freaking BUS after all).
At any rate, I'll try and get a post up early tomorrow.

I'm totally okay with this, good idea! Let's set those limits that you outlined as well. Whoever is doing the crying to "help" the main conman will roll with a dice pool equal to how many hits the conman had.
-
At this point, I don't want to use Needle as even an NPC. Let's try to leave her out of this as much as we can.

So Needle gets hit by a Semi crossing the road, check.

If we are going with the blackmail story i don’t think having a bodyguard or two will raise questions. Blackmails usually target people with money or in position (and therefore with money).
@Gustovness: is the Skeleton open to public at this hour? (Concrete will check it on their matrix node.) Also, by his experience, will there probably be any management types in right now, or just the support staff preparing for this night?
INT(4) + Bars and Clubs: Seattle(5) + Mnemonic Enhancer(1) (10d6.hits(5)=4) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3958874/)
@the others: if the club is not open Concrete won’t be able to go in alone. Also if he goes in alone his role will be that of emergency support (see Plan Fulbar). He can talk to the employees there but will probably get results only with coertion (not much talent in persuasion). Alternatively, he can check out the outside, look around for possible eyewitnesses and other clues the Don’s men might’ve missed.

The idea of the blackmail thing is a friend of a friend scenario.
Lash is being blackmailed, goes to her best friend in the world, Siren to seek advice. Siren goes with her bodyguard to help see if she can't melt the hearts of the employees to help out her little friend that just made a mistake and now its ruining her life and <sniff sniff> and I just don't know what she's <sniff> going to do because <sniff> she just doesn't have the money to pay up <sniff> and if someone finds out then her reputation is <sniff> ruined <queue to begin crying>
I know its the GM's call on if its open to the public, I'd assume its closed but Siren and Lash can smooth talk their way into there to talk to people who may know something, hopefully. And then we can begin having the outside hacked as a fallback plan just in case.
-
To avoid try to use Needle as a NPC I just posted that her commlink was on the table and took it.
Hope that's ok, tell me if you need an edit.

Yes she put Maria's commlink on the table after making backups and walks out, probably only to be distracted by something else and never heard from again.
-
The club is closed to the public at this hour.
One of you can try knocking on the door.
Also, Concrete, I'm assuming that your perception roll was done to take in your surroundings as soon as you arrived and not of anywhere specific. I'll just say that as you get off your transportation, you didn't notice anything weird.
-
Hey fellas, I'm seeing this drag out a bit like when a group of guys is trying to agree on what pizza toppings they want for multiple pizzas and everyone is like, "oh just get me whatever." :P
It's cool that you guys are strategizing and all, but maybe one of you should step up and take an action and see if the rest of the team follows suit?
Now, I'm just throwing in my two cents here as someone from the outside and not as the GM, you guys do what you want, but I think Siren should take the lead on this one since your plan A seems to rely on fast talk. Should you guys run into a pinch at any point in the story, Trog or Concrete can stand up and "lead" if you will. Stuff like that. If your character seems to be the specialist in what you're trying to do, take charge after everyone chips in their two cents.
That's just an idea that I'm throwing out there.
-
I put up a post with Trog moving events to knocking on the door, but don't want to go beyond that since after the door opens it's time for Siren and Lash to shine! :)
-
Sorry, I've been too busy to make a substantial post until now. Just for future reference, I work nights (EST), so I feel like my posting times might be a little bit out-of-sync with the rest of the group. But then again it seems like the forums are a rather cosmopolitan group, so I could be wrong about that.
Also work has gotten hectic lately, so my ability to post from work is a bit stunted (today involved my manager standing over my cubicle with a stopwatch... seriously wish I was kidding. Oh the joys of being a wageslave).
At any right, I'll try to get a nice meaty post up tonight, and I'll be around plenty tomorrow (have the day off! woo!). And yes... Siren will gladly take the lead.

Post up. By the way, I cracked open Runner's Companion again and noticed the following:
The character is well-known locally and any compatriot will
identify him with an Intuition + Logic (1) Test.
I know Concrete has already figured out, but if anybody else wants to try, now would be a good time.

Works out to our favor with a bartender or someone knowing who she is to get the friend of a celebrity thing going on.

Can post the latter part of checking the alleyways but i thought of waiting until after the others were let in IC.

Can post the latter part of checking the alleyways but i thought of waiting until after the others were let in IC.
I've been on all day more or less, just been hanging back because I don't want to post 5 times to everyone else's once (slow day at work).

Sorry for the slow posts today guys. I was traveling for my honeymoon and the internet is spotty over here. I'm heading out to dinner now and i'll try to take a look at the IC thread and move it along tonight. If not, first thing in the morning!
-
Don't sweat it. Honeymoon comes first. Congratulations, by the way.

Yeah honeymoon comes first, tell the wife we said hi.
-
As Best and Reiper said, honeymoon > pbp. Congratulations to you and your new spouse!
-
Congratulations. And just as the others said: honeymoon's more important.
-
Siren, start smooth talkin! 8)
-
Just going to tip my hand and drop the real name, since it seems like it would be of benefit in this situation.
-
Concrete should roll a perception test in the alley to see if Trog missed anything.
-
First Edge expenditure of the game!
-
Concrete, i'm not 100% sure what your last roll was for. Are you trying to recall a club with the name on the cigarette butts? That's what I understood. If so, i'll go with it. Otherwise lemme know what you were trying to do.
Siren, i dont understand the reroll due to failure. My understanding on edge was that it gave extra dice, not extra rolls. Also, shouldnt you be rolling with ur skill plus attribute? Concrete shows his skill plus linked attribute and then adds his modifier (olfactor boosters for example). The module was drawn up before the game even started and trust me you passed the very low threshold, but maybe someone can explain the mechanics to me here on what was happening.
-
You basically have three possibilities when using Edge to enhance a roll:
1. You declare the use of Edge prior to rolling. In this case, you roll additional dice equal to Edge (eg. INT + Perception + Edge) and Rule of Six applies to all dice.
2. You declare the use of Edge after rolling the test. Now you have two possibilities:
2a. You roll additional dice equal to Edge, and Rule of Six applies to these additional dice.
2b. You reroll all dice of the test that were not a success. There is no Rule of Six for this method.
So basically, if you have a large dice pool, you usually go with 2b. If you have a smaller dice pool and higher Edge, 2a. might be your best choice. 1. is usually chosen if you think the test is very important and you want Rule of Six to all your dice.
Other uses of Edge are detailed in SR4 Anniversary Rulebook p.74.
-

That is correct, i was trying to recall if there is a club with that name. My other thought was a cigarette brand (pretty sure Concrete doesn't smoke that :)), that is why i sent the picture and text to Lord to check it.

Ren broke down the Edge question better than I ever could. But basically, yeah, spending Edge to reroll failures (but with no Rule of Six applied) is a legit use of Edge.
Regarding her skills, I tend to just lump skills and attributes together, and only point out situational modifiers I'm aware of (like Fame). Specifically, Siren's dice pool of 17 for Con and Negotiation come from:
5 from Skill
7 from Charisma
2 from Improved Ability
3 from Kinesics
-
You basically have three possibilities when using Edge to enhance a roll:
Thanks for breaking it down! There are things that don't "stick" from the book until you see it in action.

Same here, I didn't really remember it until two weeks ago when my sniper got shot and would have been knocked unconscious until someone in the group reccomend me to burn my edge, went from taking 10 damage to 1.

Might be a minute before i move things along for Lord as im not sure how matrix stuff works and i need to re read the rulebook
-
Alright guys, i spent the better part of my morning studying matrix rules. Sorry for the lack of posts this weekend.
-
I don't blame you, the Matrix feels like one of those things I'll never quite understand.
-
Yeah if i misinterpret matrix rules feel free to point them out here.

Oh, and if anybody's annoyed about Siren forking over 200 without consulting the team first, she's taking it out of her cut. If the street sams pay for their bullets, faces gotta pay for their bribes...
-
Trog, Siren just bought you a 5 minute window with the bouncers before she'll have to excuse herself from the office. No time for a full indepth interrogation. You're on a time table. Ask what you must and keep it short.
-
Wasn't annoyed about you spending on bribes without consulting us first. In our games we usually spend first, split later with some spendings deemed as personal. 200 is relatively low (comparable to bullets) but should it happen that you have to pay 1000 and there's no way around, i don't think that should come from your share.
-
sorry I missed a day of posting, I fell asleep Sunday and didn't wake up until about 1pm today.
And @ Siren, 200 is dirt cheap, I don't mind the paying. Hell my face routinely puts up 500 to 1k in my other run without consulting the team, but we have a joint account for things like that too.
-
sorry I missed a day of posting, I fell asleep Sunday and didn't wake up until about 1pm today.
You're lucky, today was workday for me. Never enough sleep on one of these.
-
Did we get a pic of Maria from Massimo or Ashley?
-
Did we get a pic of Maria from Massimo or Ashley?
Yes you did. If i didn't explicitly say so earlier, sorry about that. Let's say everyone has the same picture from Massimo.
-
Haven't heard from Gorean/Lord in a while. He still with us?
-
Just on stakeout. :-)
-
@Gorean: while on steakout, Lord could check the name on the cigarette butts Concete showed him. A data search might be a good idea, looking up if it is a brand, if it is distributed widely or in a narrow area, or if it is something different and you can dig something up on it.
Edit: this is not my day so i just wanted to make clear that i intended above sentences as a request.
-
I wanted to roll a data search for Lord for the cigarettes Concrete found since he seems to be indefenitley afk . My understanding is that its a log + data search test. Based on his sheet on pg5 of this post, that means he has a pool of 8 but i see pool of 12 next to data search. Could someone clarify this for me?
-
Ignore the sheet pool it'll always be wrong for matrix pools since they're program + skill, rather than attribute + skill.
Pool for data search is 4 (data search skill) + 5 (browse program) + 1 (PuSheD) + 3 (Neocorticals) which makes 13 pool.

Sleazy Eddie, quickie question for the GM
Would any of my char's know ledges help out with this? He sounds like a pimp or someone working a strip club.
Bars and Clubs : 3 Pool: 6
Underworld : 5 [Prostitution] Pool: 8 (10)
-
Nah you wouldn't know about him yet he's relatively new to the scene.
-
Oh and I'm coming back to the states today so with all the flying I won't post much until tonight. Then, back to usual speed!
-
Some explanation to my post: there actually was a part of Hawaii 5-O with this kind of story. ;)
-
I don't think Trog has informed the group about his lead on Sleazy Eddie and his apartment, but that's a minor detail.
All in favor of heading over there, guns-blazing style and knocking some heads? I think some Intimidate checks will get us where we need to go on this one.
-
Short I haven't posted in a couple days, was preoccupied. Well post tonight, but I'll be attending a funeral tomorrow so idk if I'll be able to log on, depends on the time of day (I know I know, it's tomorrow and I still don't know when it is lol...)
-

You're right, Trog just dropped the name in the comm to the team, not that he knew the address.
Think we just need to scare Eddie to get the info, so a straightforward approach would be best. Concrete will gladly do the talking in this one 8)
-
Trog will definitely support a... "hands on" approach ;)
-
Alright, seeing as everyone is making their way out of The Skeleton, I'll move the story along now to the apartment complex.
-
Guys, I TOTALLY forgot to post yesterday, sorry about that!
Lord seems to be missing more than a day's post at a time, however... It appears that even having two hackers on the team didn't work out this time... I'll try my best to keep him moving along with the rest of you and play him like an NPC should he return.
As it stands, I see Concrete, and Trog going in the front door with Lash watching the back and Siren watching the front... I'll post a more in depth IC post as soon as I clock out for the day.
-
Upon further review, I see that you guys haven't fully agreed on the plan yet. I'll give you more time to figure out and agree on what you want to do. Lord will tag along and follow instructions as the team sees fit.
-
@Gustovness: did the assensing (Lasciel's) or any of the knowledge skill tests (Concrete's) yield any information? I would be really curious about the security rating, and the police reaction times connected to that.
-
Siren kind of dominated the last two scenes, I'm ready to let her sit on the sidelines a bit while Trog and Concrete bust some heads. If I skip a day or two of posting, just assume it's because Siren isn't saying/doing anything important, and less to do with her player disappearing.

I'm kinda sitting back there one too, for a similar reason. Plus I tend to get in a lot of posts sometimes and I'm trying to keep it more balanced.
Lash is pretty much in place, although if I could get the results of the assense test she can give the team a bit of info on any obvious magical presense at least (her skill blows)
-
Just an FYI, my computer crashed yesterday and I lost access to my PDF. I managed to recover the core rulebook, and this shouldn't affect my ability to post too much, but I'll be a little restricted until I get this sorted out.
-
No problem Beast. If you have anything you need to look up I'm sure someone can help you with it :)
-
And here i was feeling guilty that I had forgotten to post these last couple of days! Regardless, sorry! I'll give you guys some action tomorrow, Monday!
-
I was going to post but i think i want to draw up a visual aid for you guys first.
The assensing didnt yield anything btw
-
We are eagerly waiting what will happen next.
-
Everyone, I want to offer a sincere apology for not posting everyday like I said I would. To be honest, it would only have taken 10 minutes and there was no excuse for me to hold the game up. I think one of the main reasons I felt anxious to continue the game was that we're about to crack some heads and worried I'm going to fuck the mechanics up. That being said, please point out to me any errors I commit in the fight that is about to ensue. I don't know if game masters usually do this, but I'm letting you know right now "Don't try to talk your way out of this one" :P
Again, I really do feel bad about holding up the game and I hope that I didn't lose anyone's interest!
-
Apology accepted. Don’t worry about the interest though, was waiting to be able to use my character’s abilities to the fullest.
By my experience it is very unusual for GMs to be this straightforward about how a situation can be handled by the characters. To be frank it is a little bit disillusioning. Were I the GM I would have hinted at the probable outcome by describing the gangers’ posture, tone, and the characters’ impressions. But please don’t take this badly, it might just be our different playing style.
Also hope you will forgive me if I try to stay in character because Concrete is not someone who uses needless violence. He will try to bribe the gangers or frighten them out of their wits before drawing weapons so I will act on that in my next post.

You didn't. Been a busy few days, but I've been checking in.
-
I've been having a crazy week to. Brother had a seizure so bad he needed CPR and hospitalization. But everything is ok now though, so I'll have my response to the gangers up tonight :)
-
Padawan, I'm sorry to hear about your brother. My wife had a couple of seizures last year as a result of a bad reaction to taking Tylenol PM for 3 nights in a row. It was scary shit man so my heart goes out to you.
Now, back to the game, we're about to crack some skulls so I assume the next step is to roll initiative, right? I roll for the 5 gangers separately and you guys roll your own? Let me know in this thread if I do something ass backwards. Also, as a GM, am I supposed to show you the ganger's IP rolls or is that usually kept secret?
-
I would post the IPs just to make it easier for us since posting is asynchonous.
And it'll help out, lets say its concerte, goon goon goon me
I wouldn't know to wait for the goons after concrete if you didn't post it.
-
As a GM i usually let my players know the initiative order of all participants they know of. It is only fair as the GM already knows all initiative scores and can plan actions based on that.
-
Also, any results on checking what kind of weapons the gangers possess? My perception roll was quite good. I will assume the gangers show hostility and Concrete judged that they won't be able to go on without violence.
Initiative: REA(5) + INT(4) (9d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4000406/)
Initiative score: 9+2=11, 2 IPs in the round.

Sorry, Ren, I misunderstood what Concrete was rolling for. Thought he was looking for hidden guys, not weapons. I'll churn out info IC.
-
Also, Concrete, I'm looking over your sheet and I can't see where you get two initiative passes. I'm sure it's there somewhere but could you point it out to me, please?
IP is as follows:
- Concrete
- Trog AND Vest #1
- Vest #2
- the remaining ganger
Now, this doesn't take into account Concrete's extra IP. Just clarify that for me and I'll be able to fit you in =D Other than that, let's get this started and see how it works out!
-
REA 7 + INT 2 (9d6.hits(5)=3) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4001692/)
Initiative: 9 + roll of 3 = 12
I've got 3 IP's just as a by the way. (From the Adept power Improved Reflexes)
-

The rating 1 wired reflexes (end of cybewares list) gives me an extra IP.

Seems that Trog goes first so i will just wait for him to post. In the meantime, please tell us what the distance between the gangers and us is and if there is a clear LOS to the jacket ganger or what the cover modifier is, and if i can get a clear LOS with a few steps.
-
Was just about to ask the same thing about distance haha, looks like I was beat to the punch.
-
clear line of sight to everyone except jacket man who is standing behind the rest of his gang, there is no cover, two lawn chairs near where the gangers are that have no tactical consideration as of now.
Lobby is 11m x 3m. Gangers are lined up and 2m away from the far wall.
Concrete knows exactly where the jacket man is and the lack of true cover doesn't obstruct anyone's vision or overall perception of the lobby, but with the vested man between them, a direct shot at him,by Concrete's judgement, will incur +3 to threshold for the hard shot that he's considering.
If this doesn't answer your questions, please don't feel frustrated. Just clarify anything else you need to know and I'll try to paint a clearer picture for you!
-

+3 threshold seems a bit harsh. Good cover usually gives +4 dice to defend against the shot (SR4A, p.159, defense modifiers table). +3 threshold is roughly equivalent to -9 dice. (If it is +3 threshold, it is, i just wanted to tell my opinion how extremely hard a shot it seems.)
-
Quick question, if we get a call for backup, do you want Sable and Siren to roll init too and start heading that way? Although with how fast combat normally goes, it should be over by the time we make it to the room.
-
Wow Trog, you missed with 12 dice?
I hope you got that out of your system :P
-
Haha, so do I Reiper. But don't worry... my next IP will be a crit glitch... that's my luck :P
-
Haha, so do I Reiper. But don't worry... my next IP will be a crit glitch... that's my luck :P
Haha, you swing, completely miss the person and punch the beam in the wall, shattering your hand in 4 places and opening yourself up to an attack.
-
Guess it's time o start attacking with my other hand ;)
-
My shot was only a little better, stayig below average. Let's see how they dodge it.
-
Don't worry Ren... Were just lulling them into a false sense of security... Yea... That's it
-
I just rolled an opposed test for Concrete's taser shot. I rolled the ganger's REA but afterwards, was in doubt, and double checked online how tasers work. I just now found that for tasers I had to roll a BOD+WIL test, not a REA test, so in case you were looking at the extra roll on Invisible Castle, that was my mistake and I'll be rerolling the test now.
-
I don't think it makes a difference in this case since Trog missed, but next time declare who you're swinging for, shirt or vest.
For those more experienced, DOES IT matter? I think rules apply differently for someone entering melee against a target that is already in melee (negative modifiers for the target's defense). Let me know what your guy's interpretation is on this.
As it stands, I'd like to cut Trog some slack since he DID miss (lol) so I'll say he swung at the vested thug (not the one Concrete shot)? Does that make sense? I figure he'd like to break the biggest threats first anyways...

I had said closest assuming that would be ganger 1 on the diagram, but if someone moved closer, he'd move to whichever was on his side.
-
Concrete, you've got a guy running at you who scored a critical glitch. Go ahead and pull off some fancy moves in dispatching him if you'd like. Roll as usual (to make sure you don't glitch too) but feel free to add some color as your victim will only roll for damage resistance, not your success.
-
@Padawan: everyone acted in IP #1 so I think it is IP #2 now, it is your turn.
@Gustovness:
If someone is attacked by a weapon doing electricity damage, three potential rolls have to be made.
Step 1. Defense test. As normal, the defender is entitled a defense test (Reaction in case of ranged, Reaction + skill in case of melee attacks), with the option of going full defense. If the defender scored more hits, nothing happens. If the attacker scored more hits, go to step 2. (eg. my shot scored 3 hits, defender rolls Reaction which is 3 dice, scores a hit, so I have 2 net hits)
Step 2. Damage resistance test. As normal, the defender rolls Body + Armor with appropriate modifiers against the basic damage + net hits the attacker scored. If the defender takes any damage, go to step 3. (eg. basic damage is 8S, I scored 2 net hits, so damage is 10S. Defender rolls Body 4 + half impact armor 2 (because of the taser’s AP).)
Step 3. Electricity resistance test. The target rolls Body + Willpower + Armor with appropriate modifiers, the threshold is 3. If he fails, he is incapacitated for a number of combat turns equal to 2 + net hits scored on the attack. If he succeeds he only gets -2 to all tests for the same period of time. (eg. Body 4 + Will 3 + half impact armor 2, threshold is 3. If he fails he is incapacitated for 4 turns.)
-
Also, I think Trog should've had 1 less die on his defense/dodge pool for the second attack. A minor quibble.
-
Whoops, you are right Beast. Was so focused on forgetting reach in roll #1 I forgot the multiple defense negative. I think I still negate the hit, I'll check it now though to be sure.
Edited m last post to include a response to the Comm message and Trog's next action since the IP order has come back around to Trog. (Worked much better this time around)
-
Step 2. Damage resistance test. As normal, the defender rolls Body + Armor with appropriate modifiers against the basic damage + net hits the attacker scored. If the defender takes any damage, go to step 3. (eg. basic damage is 8S, I scored 2 net hits, so damage is 10S. Defender rolls Body 4 + half impact armor 2 (because of the taser’s AP).)
ok so I'll go back and recalculate the damage then. Since the punk doesn't have any armor on, does the AP result in 0? or is there such a thing as negative armor?
-
Armor cannot be negative. Still, the half of 0 is 0 :) (In the example i assumed that the thug has an armored vest.)
-
BOD 4 + armor 0 = 4 (4d6.hits(5)=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4007957/)
1 hit for vested thug 1, so that's 2 net hits for Concrete's attack, leading to 10S, not 7S dmg. That was a dead on hit and the thug is out for the rest of the fight... his stun damage has hit max.
-
Trog, a couple of things buddy:
First, it didn't make a difference due to your net hits on this last round, but remember to add a cumulative -1 modifier for each successive attack you attempt to defend against in a pass. This means that since the vested guy you're fighting goes before the shirted guy, you'll need to add a -1 to defending against the shirt guy (assuming you don't kill the vest guy in this round I'm about to resolve).
Also, I see you called 11S dmg on your punch... I think you took your 9 BOD and added your two boxing qualities for the 11S, but it should actually be half your STR 7 (so, 4 rounded up) plus those two boxing qualities coming to 6S plus net hits. Again, if I'm wrong, please show me where.
Alright, now I'll get to resolving the rest of this round!
-
Cool action sequence so far! When they make the movie Concrete should be played by Liam Neeson and Trog should be played by The Rock!
-
@Gustovness: next time, if you score hits on an attack, please write the damage and AP as well.
@Padawan: I think you still have an IP, so it should be your turn.
-
Ren, you might want to edit your last post. Pretty sure the ganger fired at Trog, not you.
-
Thanks for the warning. Should use my eyes better. Deleted the post.
-
Just a heads up: going on a bit of a daytrip. I won't be able to post until Sunday, but I'll try to get an IC post up then.
-
I noticed I had forgotten to include the DV of the weapon, other than that, is anyone wiating on me or are we waiting on Trog to roll defense?
-
Sorry about that, my internet has been spotty the past few days, gunna roll it up now and post it in IC.
-
I think your math is slightly off on my unarmed damage Gustovness. I've got 11S+net hits, so he should be seeing 9S instead of 5 ;) I did forget to state that iIC however, so that's my bad.
Also, not sure if anyone else has a third IP or if it's back around to rolling Initiative again?
-
I don’t think any of the gangers has a third IP. My initiative for next round: REA(5) + INT(4) (9d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4016017/) 9+2=11
-

I think we're both off... Your damage is 7S since I forgot to figure in both your boxing qualities. I'm assuming that you keep getting 11 by calculating BOD + qualities when it's actually half of your STR rounded up (so 4) plus 2 for boxing, plus 1 for net hit.
Also, am I understanding right that the bullet shot at Trog did no damage at all?
Also, we need to roll initiative on each pass? I thought you rolled initiative order and that was it for the rest of the combat phase? Anyway, assuming that Trog DID deal out 7S, this guy is still standing so the gangers have 2 IPs.
-
As I understood, the combat went this way up till now.
Initiative order: Trog, Concrete, Vest1, Vest2, rest of the gangers.
IP1: Trog misses; Concrete takes out a ganger; two gangers attack Trog, a third goes after Concrete, and the one standing back draws a revolver
IP2: Trog takes out a ganger; Concrete takes out a ganger; Trog's second opponent backpedals and the final ganger takes a shot.
IP3: Trog charges the ganger with the revolver.
Turn 1 is complete. Please correct me if you see it differently.
BTW we don't have to roll initiative each pass, but each combat turn.
Also i think that Trog has several levels of critical strike (cannot confirm as i don't find Trog posted) which are directly added to the DV of unarmed attacks.
-
ok see I'm getting passes mixed up with turns. I'll have to re read on the differences between those two.
And yeah if Trog could point out where the extra dmg is coming from that'd be great. I figured in his two boxing qualities already.
-
STR 9 from implants = 5DV
Boxing = +2DV using fists
Critical Strike 4 = +4DV on unarmed strikes
Total of 11S, since I didn't declare Killing Hands ;)
And yes, my armor got more hits than the DV, reducing it to 0.
Also, I charged the man without the gun because I thought they were next to each other after their move actions, instead of on different sides of the room/hall. I guess he'll be next after taking down this guy next round (assuming I don't miss like the start of last combat phase)
-
Don't worry about it. The one you leave goes down with an electric spike.
-
Haha, taser vs pistol... or maybe he'll just run :P
Also, Initiative: Initiative 9 = 9+ (9d6.hits(5)=4) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4016890/)
Total of 13 on this Initiative round.
-
Trog then looked between the man with the gun and the one who told him to fire. He grinned and said "Weren't you ever told not to play with guns?" He then charged the man with a gun, throwing an uppercut as he reached the ganger.
You sure you charged the guy without the gun? :P

Alright guys, made some changes, turns out Trog did go Iron Chef on that thug and turned his face into pasta. That changes things since I don't think an unarmed man would try to stand up to Concrete and Trog, I made him start hauling ass.
I understand that there are mechanics that we need to go through in order to initiate a chase scene if that's what you guys want. If that's the case, just let me know and I'll try to make the best of it. He began running on the same pass as when Trog knocked out the armed man, so I'm giving him a 28m head start from Trog, and a 19m head start from Lash.
Rolling initiative for the runner...
Messed up the roll, just sticking with the first results
INT 3 = 3 (3d6.hits(5)=1 IP4 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4017263/)

I'm fine with letting him go, but was gunna wait for Reiper to post Lash's reaction/actions to the man busting out of the back door.

Completely missed that part of the post.
Going to try to stop him from running away.

Posted, now just hoping the poor guy doesn't get 4 hits to resist lev, or else I'm going to have to cast stunbolt at him.
**Edit** Nevermind I cast a way too strong version of the spell. He has to beat force x2 on the opposed test, which would be 12.
**edit 2: Since I misunderstood the levitate rules at first (I thought it was an opposed test str + body vs hits on the spell can I not have spent that edge? No problem either way if you want to say whats done is done.
-
Don't think the spell was too strong. Opposed test means you roll force*2 (12 dice) and he rolls Body + Strength. You need at least one net hit on this to successfully levitate a target.

Thanks for pointing that out. I should have known that. Been a long day. Updated the post with the opposed roll, if he beats me then I'll retcon the lifting him up in the air part.

I'm about to roll for the opposed test now. Hey I get the idea behind a more forceful spell having much more drain on a person, but I'm not understanding the mechanics of it. Is it something you declare? Do I go off your character sheet? Where is that F variable coming from?
Thanks for explaining it for me! Couldn't quite extrapolate it from the book.

The caster gets to decide the actual force of the spell. Unless otherwise stated its assumed that you are casting at the same force as your magic level. You can cast below the magic level to decrease drain, or you can overcast which makes you resist physical damage instead of stun damage on the drain. And I think the max you can cast is your magic x2, so Lash could throw a force 12 levitate at someone, and have to soak 7 physical.
Wow really, 8 dice and gets five hits and I can only get four off of 12? Hah.
Is he still in line of sight? If so I'm going to overcast and try this again.
-
Darn... I was gunna subdue him on my next round to ask if what's-his-name was home right now. Ah well... surprises are fun ;)
-

He's gone down the alley and turned, putting him 44m away from you and out of LOS.

Hey Ren... Just realized something... Neither of us have an Autopicker or Lockpicks, and neither of us are trained in hardware if it's an electronic lock. So do we want to break down the door or try and get him to answer a knock? XD
-
If it is electronic, Lord can do the honors. He has Hardware skill. If it comes down to knocking, i think it will be the louder version :D
-
Lord hasn't been active on the forums since 3/22/13 so I'll be taking over for him for now. As of now, he's hanging out outside with Siren but he can be inside and with Trog and Concrete within 30 seconds if you guys need him.

Which way does the door open?
-
lol I actually googled "which way do apartment doors open?" and came across this actually insightful post:

Anyways, the door opens inwards.

Are you guys waiting for me?
-
Sorry, life decided to rear it's head again, but I'm back! I'll post in just a couple of minutes!
-
Spent the whole day on a hike, will have something up in an hour.
-
yeah cool no worries I was just worried if I had missed some GM stuff and you guys were waiting on ME lol
-
How did you link your roll like that Ren? I must've missed it.
-
Click on the icon at the front of the row, it gives you the BBcode and other options.
-
Ren, I need to apply a -3 modifier to your intimidation since the outcome might be harmful to Eddie. The thing is, I'm not sure it's completely fair that I apply the -3 to only the dice that scored hits. So since you used edge and you have a rather large dice pool, I'm going to bring it down by only one and say you had 9 successes.
Ok, now time to roll the opposed test!
-
Actually, before I roll the opposed test, I see in pg 130 of SR4 20th Anniversary that an intimidation test calls for intimidation + Charisma, but you're applying BOD. Could you explain where that comes from? Thanks!
-
I have the Panzer PQ from Way of the Samurai and this is one of the advantages it gives (the other i chose is having 2 points of pain resistance).
-
ok thanks for the clarification!
-
Alright I rolled on rolz.org but I couldn't find that link you were referring to. Also, Eddie doesn't have a dice pool large enough to possibly counter that intimidation attempt so he's rolling with the punches and trying to cover up the metaphorical piss stain on his pants right now. You two can roll an opposed test to his con attempt. If you succeed, the intimidation is apparently successful. You know what? I'm going to drop the threshold by one more just 'cause he's shaking in his boots. The die results on rolz gave me 3 hits but I'm going to edit the entry to 2 just to take this intimidation into account.
-
Alright guys, Eddie is shitting his pants. You won the intimidation and con rolls. Have fun with this scene. He's gonna blab, but you still have to ask the right questions. Take some liberties with what you do to convince Eddie to talk, it's all good.
-
Didn't realize we needed to roll any opposed chack, but here it is:
CHA(3) + Perception(3) + Qualities(4) + 'Warez(3)

Ren, you seem more knowledgeable on SR4 than me so when I second guess you it's for my own benefit, not to second guess you or anything. That said, is etiquette something we don't usually roll against?
-
It may well be an opposed roll. You wrote in IC that the goal of the roll is that Eddie doesn't offend Concrete or Trog. As he didn't say anything to be offended by, i thought that there was no need for an opposing roll.

This, usually I've only used ettiquette tests going from PC to NPC, normally PCs decide for themselves if they want to get offended.

Sorry I'm sparse, guys, but some RL stuff has come up (found myself unexpectedly unemployed, hooray!) I will post when I'm able, but I'm afraid writing cover letters will take precedence over writing play-by-post responses for the time being.
-
Hope it's just a quick setback for you Beast!
-
Good luck with the job hunt
-
It's been a couple of days since anyone has posted in the IC thread. What's up guys? I know Beast is preoccupied, anyone else?
-
I was waiting for the others to see if they have a brilliant idea because i fell i'm stuck. I will post if a few hours anyway, but i might sound like a broken record.
-
Cool man, just let me know. You see? Here I learn to watch out for having my players feel stuck whilst doing legwork. Just let me know what's making stuff not fun and I'll move it around.
-
Hey Mr GM, would the gun being held against Eddie help Concrete much by adding dice to his intimidate pool
-
I'm going to have Eddie spill some more info than what I had thought he would know for the sake of moving the story forward some. No use in getting hung up here.
-
Guys, are we done playing? If you wondered off for a while, how about resetting and coming back now. It's cool, even I did it for a while, no one is going to bust any chops. Just let me know what the deal is!
-
I still would like to continue but it's not that much fun without the others.
-
I guess we'll declare this game dead. Sorry Ren :(
-
Don't blame yourself, sometimes it just happens.
