Before Needle can walk out, Trog puts his hand on her shoulder. "Why leave? It's early in the day, do whatever it is you do here and we can start right away. If anything it'll let us finish this job quicker."
On her way out, Needle replies "Because the facilities I have on my bus are better equipped to handle what I'm about to do to this commlink than just doing it here in the open. You are welcome to come with me if you like."
The exchange doesn't stop her from leaving, and it doesn't stop her from doing what she was going to do.
Consider that a ret-con for Trog stopping her. She's still going to her bus, she's still driving to The Skeleton, and she's still hacking the commlink. Unless someone physically stops her, that is.
Now, I must say, that even though I really DO like Needle's personality (I seriously do, don't change it!), this wasn't cool... especially the "exchange doesn't stop her from leaving" part. That's up for me to decide, not a player. With Lord not having posted anything yet today, we could have prolonged the encounter a little longer by AT LEAST rolling some sort of opposed test rather than saying "the troll didn't stop me."
A better way to express this situation would have been "Needle snatched the commlink and started heading for the door" and leave it at that. Lord, the one who hasn't posted yet today (and that's fine, it's 1 post a day minimum) is the other hacker on our team and if anyone is going to dispute Needle's walking out it's going to be him. If there weren't any other hackers on the team (as might be the case with a run that was planned out with time), this might be the case and I would just shrug it off, but I'm going to have to rewind time here a bit...
I'm going to stop Needle at being right outside the door, heading off to her bus. If Lord wants to interject, this will give him time to run out after you and then you two can work things out between each other since he does have that right as a character and as a player.
So if Needle could edit her posts to exclude the getting into the bus and running her hacking programs and what not, I'd appreciate it. Don't stop being uncouth though, I'm loving it!
Ok, I seriously disagree with you here. The troll didn't stop Needle, he merely put his hand on her shoulder to ask where she was going. Had he wanted to stop me, he would have posted that he prevented me from leaving. Secondly, his words wouldn't have stopped Needle from continuing on about leaving. He can talk til he's green in the face, but that won't stop her.
Secondly, I really don't like the idea of being railroaded into not leaving, especially when I've got dice rolls attached to my post.
Third, there is nothing stopping anyone from following me, especially when I already ret-conned my actions stating that, at the very least, the troll could come with if he so wished. He chose to stay behind.
You can't tell me to continue playing uncouth and then tell me I have to ret-con my post so I don't leave. Leaving is what she would have done, short of someone physically stopping her.
See, this is what I meant when I asked earlier about my having the quality. I'm playing it the way I see it being played, and it's causing issues.
For the record, I'm not going to ret-con my post. If you want to have some type of accident prevent the bus from physically leaving the scene, fine. But I'm not changing what I did when it's a complete in-character move.
And on the topic of stopping actions at certain points: I refer you to what happens to my character when I log off for the day and then back in during the morning. I had 2 pages of posts to go through where nobody even paid attention to the fact that I was there. Didn't stop anyone else from doing what they wanted. Why should I be any different?
