I'll just note that while Crossfire is being developed out of house, there has been a lot of input from some of us inhouse. This is not a product that someone else is doing on their own, it's something they are doing for us because we simply do not have the internal manpower to do it ourselves, because they are huge fans of shadowrun, and because they have expertise in developing just this sort of game.

And Gen Con was always going to be SR5 as the big product, regardless of whether or not it got released beforehand or not.

The ONLY product from the Year of Shadowrun that isn't getting any input regarding SR5 from Catalyst is Shadowrun: Returns (and possibly the board game). Crossfire, Sprawl Gangers, Shadowrun Online are all connected to SR5 in that they're using interchangable core mechanics (for the physical products) and that all three will have SR5 corebooks in addition to their own materials.

Actually, I'll just note that Harebrained and Catalyst are in communication with each other.  Several of our writers are working on the SR:R anthology, Matt Heerdt has done some layout work for them, and Jason and Randall talk with them regularly. Since their stuff is Shadowrun "History", there's no need to coordinate per se, but that doesn't mean we don't talk.

I know. It's just when the GenCon "Exclusive" is something that already came out somewhere else months ago, it feels much less exclusive. I'm still excited for the product, just a bit bummed it's not as special.

I was just thinking the other day that we are nearly 6 months into The Year Of Shadowrun and they haven't released anything yet. Storm Front doesn't really count, being technically a 4e release.

There was some consultation on storyline/lore stuff, too, FWIW, along with a couple other odd jobs (like helping name NPCs and stock the world with the crowd-sourced shadowrunners).

Yeesh and here I thought we got some good news.  Pre-order and PDF sales 4-6 weeks before the release, sounds awesome to me. Unless I misread or misunderstood even if the release is gencon(which i think is a bad idea) the PDF is not that far off.  But hey rage away.

I'm with you, Shinobi. We're looking at PDF release within 2-4 weeks from today, counting back 4-6 weeks from GenCon. I call this good news.

From Twitter a few minutes ago: "@catalystgamelab: Just sent off an email so we can make a final decision on when the PDF/Print Preorders for SR5 will be launched.... rnb" (rnb being Randall Bills, I assume.)

So looks like we'll get a date announcement fairly soon.

Even more good news.  But the way this thread is going, unless the answer is yesterday expect rage.
