He called up a quick matrix search to get the public data about the place. He thought about what little he knew about the city, about what kind of neighborhood the Kukanyagana was in.

Your search indicates that Kukanyagana is in the Northwest area of Mombasa, at the edge of the city. It is not far from the salvage yard that your companions had identified as their destination for the morning.

You pull your truck in and run it onto the lift. You go to work on the suspension as the mechanic goes back to work on the jeep on the adjacent lift.

Lifting suspension+mounting tires. Rolling Automotive Mechanic+Logic[Mental](6, 1 hour) Extended Test
Hour 1:
Assist: 6d6.hits(5) → [2,6,5,3,2,4] = (2)
Leader: 9d6.hits(5) → [5,2,1,1,3,3,1,4,5] = (2)
Hour 2:
Assist: 5d6.hits(5) → [6,3,6,1,6] = (3)
Leader: 9d6.hits(5) → [2,1,4,2,3,1,6,1,2] = (1)
Hour 3:
Assist: 4d6.hits(5) → [5,4,4,6] = (2)
Leader: 7d6.hits(5) → [1,5,4,3,1,6,4] = (2)
Hour 4:
Assist: 3d6.hits(5) → [4,5,2] = (1)
Leader: 5d6.hits(5) → [2,5,5,6,1] = (3)

As you work the mechanic comes over to check on your progress occasionally, making a few comments to herself. Finally, after four hours of work you have the suspension adjusted and the new tires mounted.

@all: >>OK, I’ll get down to the Kukanyagana at around 4 in the afternoon. Anyone feeling up to backing me up there, just tell me if I should wait for you or you wanna come separately, to be silent backup.<<
Mutumbo spent the remaining hours with finishing his preparation for the next days. Routine got him through these activities relatively quick so he paid a short visit to Sokoro, telling him he’ll be out of town for maybe as long as a week.

When the time came, he headed to the Kukanyagana.

//Great stuff. We've got the tires on, we'll get this winch fitted and head over that way. I'll drop you a message when we're heading over. How you guys getting on?//
Wiping his hands down on a dirty rag, Ultra heads over to the control panel and lowers the lift, double checking the suspension and ride height.
Satisfied, he grabs the trolley with the winch on and starts to size up which wrench they'll need first.
lets keep this rolling, can you run the winch fitting test for us GM?

Frenchy swears as he pulls himself from beneath the winch. That was a stone cold bitch. He takes a long pull from a bottle of water. Let's get the rest of this finished shall we?

As you start to work on the winch, the mechanic finishes her work on the jeep next to you and lowers it down. You hear the door from the office open and close and the mechanic heads over to talk to whomever entered.

Grabbing his tools and hoisting the winch above the mounting points, Ultra hears the office door close and the ancient electronic chime announcing a new customer arrived.
Ultra changes his position of work so that his back is no longer to the door out to the office, rather, keeping his left side to it so he can keep an eye on things.
He also patted down his holster, double checking his weapon was in place and accessible, though there was probably no need for alarm.
Ultra mentally called forth an AR window from his headphone controller and turned his pumping beats "work music playlist" down, instead dialling up the ambient audio enhancement and enabling his sound filter, concentrating on the conversation in the other room.
int 4, percep 3, audio enhance 1 (8d6.hits(5)=3) audio only perception test (i assume i can't see the new entrant from this position)

"Well, that went well..." Mlinzi says after the laborer continues on his way. Shrugging to the Tourist, she says, "I doubt we're going to have any luck at the gate. Other than maybe checking out what kind of equipment and security the gatehouse is running, I do not see much use of doing a whole lot more here. Hopefully Johnson is providing some kind of access to the port. Given how dreked up this deal has gone down so far, I'd be surprised. What do you think we should do?"

Frenchy, humming La Marseillaise under his breath, glances over and notices Ultra patting down his holster. Without looking in the direction of the door or seeming to stop his work, he makes sure that a large wrench is close to hand.

Noticing that Frenchy had picked up on his twitchyness, Ultra silently gestured to the door, mouthing that someone was in there.

The discussion in the adjoining office remains unintelligible for a while, but slowly the volume increases until you can hear bits and pieces of what is being said between the mechanic and an unidentified male out in the office.

...have to pay...
...last time...you owe...
...feed your family...

The end of the conversation is punctuated with the door between the office and garage slamming (or the attempt to slam it anyway; swinging doors don't slam very effectively).
The mechanic stalks over to the controls to the middle repair bay and opens the door. You see a wash of light from the afternoon sun across the floor of the shop as she pulls the now modified jeep out. You can clearly hear the door slam this time as she gets out of the vehicle. After about 10 seconds you hear the door open again and the vehicle drive off. The mechanic walks back through the door and begins to close it.

Ultra makes eye contact with frenchy and flashes his eyebrows in a "wow, wouldn't-fuck-with-her" kind of way, and continues working on the winch.

The rest of your work passes without incident, the only distraction the occasional sound from an automatic tool from the far end of the garage. In total, the work on the winch takes about an hour. As you are finishing up your work, the mechanic wanders over and looks it over. As you slide out from below the truck, she crouches down, grins, and speaks.

Wasn't sure you boys were going to get it done.

She tosses you a towel to clean the grease from your hands, but you realize looking yourselves over that it won't do much for the splotches on your clothes. She points you to a small door in the rear of the garage, near the office.

Sinks out back. We can settle up after.

>>>[Isaiah:] Just confirming... you're saying the rumors about the Maasai being bloodthirsty are true? I'm hoping to avoid contact with them, but just in case, any info on them you can offer would help me out.

As you stare at the back of the retreating sailor, a reply to the message you sent yesterday comes through your commlink.

Who knows what their agenda is, other than causing trouble. Oh sure, they are still all up in arms about the whole thing on the mountain, but that's not exactly news anymore. I don't have any reason to seek them out, and they haven't been paying me any unexpected calls, so that's good enough for me.
