Well, pretty much his powers would still be in use, just disguised as using the 'sonic screw driver'. Things like trids being altered to fit the girl in question in as one of the main characters. Changing the channels on 'tvs' along with the music. When she gets up to go to the bathroom, he picks up her brief case, flashing the screwdriver at the electronic locks, causing it to pop open.

Essentially, anyone watching could pick up that the Professor's little light thingy has far too many functions.
Concepts are great, but implementation sucks. Why not improve it?

Actually, what would most attract Jack's attention isn't so much that your character's gizmo is doing what it appears to be doing than that your character lacks any hint of being cybered and yet appears to be controlling/directing his device's actions, said actions the device could not be doing without guidance from an external source. So either The Professor is a tech wizard (no pun intended) with stealthy internal mods (like Jack's own internal smartlink) that enables him to interface with his toy or he's a lot more than he appears and the toy is just a magician's prop/distraction from what's really going on. That's Jack's first impression.

Other than pushing a button it, there isnt anything else he actually does with it.

also, celtiburo, derren was in the UCAS too, logistics corp for a couple of years. not a front line soldier, but possible that they would have crossed paths on exercise or training. He also competed within the army on the rifle range.
edit: so guys, i officially got the slot.

depends on when he was in the service, if he was at least 9 to 2 years ago it would fit the timeframe, but most likely he would have known James father if not James himself.
That would fit perfectly. He's been out of the service for quite a while

@Csjarrat

James probably knows Darren, even if James is younger he would still remember Darren, the range seemingly the proper location or maybe a military parade kind of event, photographic memory does have its uses :)

The Professor and Tobias could have met at a People Who Model Their Lives After 20th Century Fictional Characters club meeting.   ;D

Possibly a like a Comicon convention, were we where some of the few 20th century fictional characters dressed up at it?

Fun facts!

The Professor once tried to be a British cop. But unfortunately he was rather inept as far as the skills they were looking for. He did however make friends with a guy who eventually joined lone star, helping him with the smart work stuff.

The Professor's first job as as shadowrunner was one he did while younger, as a simple mechanic for the group at the time. Having worked in a repair shop for a while, he was hired in to repair a particular machine that the run was stealing from a very minorly secured facility. One of the runners from that job became a Lone Star agent, and is still friends with The Professor.

As his abilities progressed in other fields, he was often called in for small jobs to open locks and repair things. After putting together a 'device', he began using this to hack things. The device in question being nothing more than a few sensors, a speaker and a flashlight. He though was never really too good at hacking. He also had a bit of grace with him within social encounters, due to being the computer in tennis shoes. However, still to this day, he lacks in combat ability.

The professor gets lost easily. This sometimes causes him to wind up in places he really shouldn't have been at. That, and his natural curiosity, he finds lots of information that he really shouldn't be having, truely the man who knew too much.

alright guys, just got my IC post up. just so i'm clear the goal; johnson doesn't want to chat with us until we've stolen/borrowed his ID to buy a coffee right?
are we talking about needing a hacker to copy/clone it or just simply pickpocketing him and swiping it at the counter

Yes, you have the commcode from the message. No databomb on the file that you can perceive. But somethings odd. This comm is slaved to another.

Also, for my ease I'd prefer rolls IC. It helps me keep things straight to see the roll with the action. I know it adds some dissonance to the storyline, and as I become accustomed to this system perhaps we'll move the rolls to the OOC thread.

Now, back to my third GM snag. In my very first post I said that I was extremely new to SR and to GM'ing it. What that means for me, and for you, is that there will be things that you, the player, will have to teach me. Unless it's an opposed roll I won't know that "it's usually a GM roll". There are things in the book that just don't make any sense to me yet. I will learn. But, you may have to explain that such & such is usually used this way but it's a GM roll and I need to know if I succeeded. I'm going to tell you right here and now that anything you want your chara to do that needs a roll explain it specifically and roll and ask, specifically the result of the roll. It saves time and helps me learn. I'll look it up, re-read the rules, with a far better insight into it's use & wording and I'll tell you your answer. I'm truly awesome at story & RP, rules are just a tool, and we'll work on my ability to use them.

Csjarrat, it's clear from your posts that you intend for your messages to go out to "James" prior to the actual job competition. But, since you didn't post any of this prior to my post of the actual meet at the bar it's adding a dissonant element. For clarities sake is it ok if we say that your call to James went out on your way to the meeting? Perhaps a mental review of possible ways to handle this you suddenly remember an old army contact that you've heard is running the shadows now after a bad break from the army. You take a chance and call him. [insert your post] then "Good, the lights changed. Another block and you'll be there. Not as early as you'd have liked, but this job might not pan out anyway. Because gods know you don't have a team right now. It'll take quite a few calls to friends and even friends of friends to get one together." Obviously it's your chara, and we'll work together to handle it in a way that makes sense to you for your chara, and to the storyline.
