"OK, let's do this," Sammy said when Clem had parked the car.  She got out and with the other Ork she went to the hotel to get the room they needed.  She had a credstick, which she was sure this hotel would accept.  It looked like the kind of place where certified cred would be no problem.  They probably had an automated check-in system, although seeing the hotel, she wasn't sure if it would be in working order.
"When we get in, stay at the door," she said to Clem, "I'll first try to see things in the astral, and for that I'd rather not have any interference.  It's probably too late, but you never know.  And after that we can check physical things.  Okay?"

Both rooms are a total of 50 nuyen, there is indeed an automated check-in, though it does work.  It figures in a place like this that the best maintained piece of hardware would be the thing that takes your money.

The two of you walk around the outside to the doors of your new 'home'.  The lock on 7 doesn't work which is fine because the door is only attached by one hinge, not that you were actually interested in staying.  The lock on 8 seems work, though it also seems like a good Santa Anna breeze would have popped it.

Listening to Sammy's plan, Clem gave her a nod as she got out of the car and followed her to the hotel, walking towards the rundown building in the middle of the surprisingly cool night. The outside blended perfectly with the feel of the neighbourhood, something that strangely soothed Clementine. It vaguely reminded her of Seattle, which was the first time she had thought of her hometown since arriving in LA.

Once the rooms were booked, the pair made their way to #8, where she would wait patiently by the door for her companion's signal to enter the room. She fired a quick message to the rest of the team, advising them that <We made it to the room without any issues and we'll have a look around. Give us 5 minutes and then Con and Torley move in with the interrogation.>

O'Connor parked his rental across the street from the rundown motel. He turned to Torley, "You happen to know how to pick lock? If any of these doors have full function, it'll be the manager's. Kicking in the door works fine for me, but its just really fun to watch a guy wake up and realize there's a gun in his face."

Sam shrugged. "Dunno; I've never tried. But from the looks of this place, if we find a door that takes more than a light tap, it'll be a good sign that it's the owner's room."

Sammy stood at the entrance to the room.  She shifted her perception to the astral and slowly looked around to check astral signatures that might be here.  Since the astral signatures became more pronounced with heavy emotion, she hoped that she would be able to find something.  Slowly as not to miss anything, she went through the room.

Next she helped Clem search the room in the material plane.

O'Connor nodded, "Well let's hope his door's as drek as the rest of this place. Seriously, I cannot do justice to watching confusion, shock, anger and fear fight for control."

The only thing more depressing and gross about the room is its spiritual copy.  Negative emotions and loveless machine-like sex combined with poor housekeeping have permanently scarred this place almost beyond reclamation even if you were so inclined.  Bacterium in the bed and mold in the bathroom crevices has grown to the point of almost having a barrier-like presence on close inspection of the astral.  If there was anything to find Sammy would be loath to examine it too closely, but there wasn’t.

Checking the room for physical clues is a mercifully short enterprise, fruitless until the mage notices something odd in the damages and marked ceiling.  What she first mistook to be insects among the water stains had garnered closer attention when she realized they were geometrically centered on the stains and that three in the main room were strategically placed around the bed, with a fourth in the latrine.

They turned out to be intentionally drilled holes through to the roof, only a few millimeters in diameter.

"So that's how they did it," Sammy said, more to herself.  Then she pointed out the camera holes, because that's what they were, to Clem.
"It's an often used technique in LA," she commented, "and you can be sure to be able to film all of the action.  If you drill holes in the walls, you can be sure that the angle will not be right or that someone puts a chair or something in front of the hole.  So we'll have to check out the roof I guess."  The astral didn't show anything, but I didn't expect much anyways."

And then go back to our own hotel for a long shower, she didn't add.  Luckily she had her respirator in, something she always wore whenever possible because of her asthma.

*Holes, huh?* thought Clem as she looked at where Sammy was pointing. The setup made sense, she had dealt with her fair share of shakedowns in the past anyways. "So this probably means Pervy McHorny wasn't acting by himself" said the ork back to Sammy, trying to find a piece of cloth relatively clean she could wipe her hands on. She wasn't unfamiliar with filth, but she never liked it either. "Let's head upstairs then" said Clementine to Sammy, as she left the room. She decided to update the rest of the team, saying <We searched the room and we're heading upstairs for now, we'll keep you updated. Torley, Con, make sure you ask if our freak wasn't alone, he might have had an accomplice in this.>

Sammy indicated the exact location of the holes on the map Snow had made, so she would be able to find them back on the roof.  Then she followed Clem back out of the room.
"As soon as we're done here, I need a shower," she said, "What on earth would make Sunny Daee come here?"

O'Connor checked the time after getting Clem's message, "Alright, I'm done waiting. Let's get this done." With that he exited the vehicle and made his way across the street and up to the manager's door. He drew his pistol, and waited for Torley to get into position. Once ready, O'Connor tested the door, checking to see if it was functional and/or unlocked.

Clementine’s athleticism and enhancements make short work of the climb onto the one-story roof, thanks to some ‘conveniently’ placed detritus at this end of the building.  Although not as graceful as her partner, Sammy is also able to climb, following Clem’s direction and getting pulled up the final bit.

What they find up there is quite the little peep show operation, a treelike structure of PVC pipe has been laid across the roof, with capped branches reaching over each room. From your immediate vantage point you can see that the branch over what would be #5 is not capped, a few spidery fiber optic cables reaching into spots over that room.

At the base of the “tree” across the roof is some kind of device.  Once the two of you reach it you realize it is not one that either of you are familiar with, though Sammy sees a vague resemblance to the satellite uplink device she occasionally sets up for her commlink.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

On the ground, O’Connor sees the red light on the lock wink off as he reaches for it and enters the office.  The adepts move through the room, which doesn’t accurately reflect the floor plan, being about half the size of the other hotel rooms. Quickly reaching another door on the back wall, he again sees the lock wink off as his Matrix (Snow)Angel clears the way.

Entering, they see that the owners have converted the two hotel rooms into a small efficiency apartment with a small office.  The two people Sammy found in these rooms actually sharing a large queen bed that straddles the place where the wall was.

Snow sighs in silent relief as she gets to the locks just before Sam and Con do.  At least she is able to do that without bunging it up.  She make a mental note to herself to encourage the team to get equipment with image link capability so that some of the issues of the evening could be avoided.  It would also help her keep up with what is going on with her team mates without verbal communication.  She continues to scan for other nodes that might be transmitting.

*What the drek is all this? There's more equipment here than back at the studio* thought Clem as she made her strange discovery. She looked back at Sammy and asked her "Any ideas what all this means?" Clementine tried to make sense of all this, figuring this setup wasn't an accident, but catching the starlet in action might have been. <Snow, I need you to tell me what this is and if we can do anything with it> messaged the ork as she sent pictures back to the rest of the team. <And boys,> added Clementine as an afterthought, <make sure the manager explains this setup.>
