== Description ==
Seijin is an Elf male in his late 20s, exact age unknown, standing 2m tall and weighing in at just over 80kg. He wears loose, flowing clothes under an old floor length trench coat, and his personalized weapon focus, a cold-forged Katana, holstered on his back with the hilt sticking out from under the coat. He also carries a Steyr TMP and a few extra clips in a concealable holster underneath the coat, and keeps a survival kit on his person at all times which also holds additional pieces of armor like a ballistic mask and PPP armor for arms, legs, and vitals.

A diffucult man to read, Seijin has had extensive training in controlling his own feelings and emotions, and his philosophies have had him on edge of a fight with more than one team. He is, however, an incredibly skilled swordsman with what some say are nearly superhuman reflexes, and he has allegedly been known to slip past enemy fire to knock out the opposition using his fists or the pommel of his sword.

In combat he can be ferocious due in part to Hachiman's guidance and the subsequent blood-rage that occurs when he's wounded, and he is honorable to a fault. He will not accept missions where people who are unarmed and unable to defend themselves are to be harmed, and will violently oppose such requests if need be. That being said, if a case can be made for why a particular person deserves to suffer, Seijin can be convinced to go against his beliefs; he will still, if given the opporuntiy, challenge such targets to single combat, a solution that has worked out favourably on a few occasions.

== Background ==
As far as Takashi Sato knows, he was orphaned on the streets of Neo-Tokyo when he was just a child and he vividly remembers seeing the pain and suffering of his fellow metahumans up close and personal during his childhood. Though his early years were spent in abject poverty and in spite of suffering from severe malnutrition, Takashi grew quickly and the local gangs actively tried to recruit him as muscle when he was around 12 years old. After taking several beatings for refusing to join up with the gangers, he was eventually forced to leave his old neighbourhood when he accidentally killed a gang leader who personally tried to beat him into submission. He spent months on the run, eventually seeking refuge at a small Shinto temple where he begged the priests for food and shelter.

Having assensed the youth the moment they saw him, the priests took the distraught boy in without question. Unbeknownst to Takashi, the temple was a shrine to Hachiman, kami of war and protection, and the warrior-priests of the Ittō-ryū were always looking for worthy recruits. Before long, the priests made Takashi an offer; in exchange for food, shelter, and service to Hachiman, they would provide him with a general education, school him in the history and philosophies of the Bushido warriors of ancient times, and teach him the principles of armed combat.

After years of intense mental studies and rigorous physical exercise, Takashi, now in his mid-20s, had spent most of his adult life in service to the temple. The magical abilities that had manifested during his self-imposed excile had been honed to a point, and his knowledge of the world had increased exponentially. Ever since his arrival at the temple Takashi had felt the influences of the Kami guide his path, and none more so than Hachiman; it was at the Kami's urging that Takashi decided to venture out into the world to walk the Warrior's Way, fighting the injustices he had experienced as a child. Only through dedication to the ideals of Bushido could Takashi prove himself worthy in the eyes of Hachiman, and Takashi took the challenge head on.

The Kensei at his temple provided Takashi with contacts in the shadows, and he began working as an enforcer and protector under the alias Seijin, aka The Saint, and he always made sure that his team fought honorably and left no bodies unless absolutely necessary. Unfortunately, one such job went completely out of control when one of the newest team members, a sociopathic mercenary going by the alias Killswitch, refused to leave any witnesses to their operation alive. The team had worn disguises so the witnesses would pose little to no threat, but Killswitch was adamant. Takashi, at first conflicted by his loyalty to his cause and the loyalty to his team, was guided by Hachiman to step into the path of Killswitch's bullets, an act which sent Takashi into a berserk state during which he ended his teammates life. Understandably, this action left a black mark on Takashi's reputation, and at the urging of his former teachers he left his place at the temple to continue his work back in Neo-Tokyo.

Though rumours of his actions persisted, Sejin's reputation as a master swordsman preceeded him. A fixer by the name of Jason Vale, aka Valen, recognized the rarity of someone with morals working the shadows, and saw Seijin as a kindred spirit. Living under the name Daisuke Kurosawa and still going by Seijin in the shadows, Valen set Seijin up with several security jobs for people of integrity and honor. Sejin may have just begun his path to become a Kensei himself, and he is still finding his way in the darkness.

Information on Enemy:
Ichiro "King" Oso is a male ork in his early 30s who stands just over 2.2m tall, and at 140kg of raw muscle he is well built. He can usually be seen wearing his signature black suit with gold detailing, and he fearlessly flaunts his status as the gang leader of the Black Emperors in his home turf of the Kabukicho district of Neo-Tokyo.

His brother Hatomi ran the Black Emperors gang when Seijin grew up on the streets of Neo-Tokyo in the late 50's, while Ichiro was doing time on the metahuman prison island of Yomi for armed robbery. Seijin killed Hatomi when the gang leader tried to recruit the young adept for the Black Emperors by force, and when Ichiro learned of the events he swore to avenge his brother by any means necessary.

In '63 Emperor Yasuhito closed down Yomi as part of his steps to reform Japanese society, and Ichiro was finally able to return to Neo-Tokyo. Ji-Sun "Business" Kim, a Korean Troll who had taken over control of the Black Emperors after Hatomi's demise, was his first target, and he challenged her to a duel as soon as he arrived home. The years spent in prison on Yomi had honed Ichiro's reflexes to a point, and while he'd been a savage fighter before he went away the fights in the yards had made him ruthless. In short order, he had hamstrung and disabled his opponent, and he killed the large troll by disembowling her, watching as she exanguinated in front of him and the rest of the gang.

During the years Seijin spent in seclusion at the temple, Ichiro shaped the Black Emperors into a more successful street gang in the Kabukicho district. He had learned from his mistake of going up against hard targets and carrying heavy ordenance, and he changed tactics accordingly. The Black Emperors now deal drugs to the wageslaves looking to for ways to escape and/or relax, they run protection for local bunraku parlors, and occasionally hire on as mercenaries for the local yakuza outfit when they run non-nationals out of business.

He is usually a quiet leader who prefers his actions to speak louder than his words, and his commands are carried out without question. He does not tolerate insubordination or failure, and more than one gang member has been taken out the King himself. Ichiro lives a comfortable life and will do anything to avoid going back to prison. He hasn't yet learned that Seijin is back in Neo-Tokyo, but when he does it is only going to be a matter of time until he gets a chance to exact revenge for his brother's murder.

Physical Description: Stands at 6’2” tall, weighs around 110 Kg, has shoulder-length dark hair. He has a few tattoos (on the inside of his left forearm, it's a checkered flag on fire, on the right shoulder, a track helmet with his father's racing number on it).
Personality/background
Roger grew up in Quebec. His father was a semi-pro rally driver and Roger was constantly in a car of some sort. He started as a co-pilot to his father on practice runs and quickly made his way behind the wheel of his own car. He wasn't half bad either: he consistently made it in the top 3 drivers season after season, until the company that was sponsoring him was taken over by the mob. They quickly recognized Roger's talent and soon Roger was matched with other "talented" people, driving them to and from various jobs. He sometimes had to drive away from various authorities, both in Quebec and the UCAS.

The mob paid well and Roger eventually got to do his own things, with a cut always expected from every job he did. This went on for a while, and thankfully Roger never got caught. Eventually, the boss Roger was working for got "replaced" and the new leaders decided that Roger was keeping too high a cut. When Roger's arrangement was "renegotiated", Roger wasn't happy with the turn of events and, along with a few others, decided to keep certain jobs to themselves. He kept a tight and loyal crew, using only outsiders when he was going to give a cut to the new boss.

One of his trusted teammates was caught skimming on another deal and, to avoid grave repercussions, ratted on the others. He eventually "disappeared", but only after the mob recovered their due. Roger, quickly piecing things together, paid what was owed with interest and was assured he would be safe. Wanting to be on the safe side of things, he left the UCAS for Neo-Tokyo, thinking the Japanese government's tight grip on things would make it harder for the mob to find him in the eventuality they wanted to tie up some loose ends.

hey guys, I;m at the GF's this weekend so AFB but will be reviewing the characters throughout the week,

First thoughts however:

@martinchaen
  • Clarification of the armor and the options form attitude. While the books may be available I will be restricting it to a single enhancement otherwise it gets far too twink far too quickly as i;m sure you can appreciate. The armor is already high with just formfitting and PPP gear as is.
  • The skills are fine but a little sparse, you may wan tt add a social skill in there
Overall I love the character and the back ground should prove to be an interesting character. Can't wait to see him in action.

  • The martial arts/powers are a bit extreme - by this I mean at the moment you hitting for quite a lot of damage, while there nothing wrong with this I will just need to check that the qualities/PP are in the limits.
  • Commlink - the empathy software has been capped I can see but at the moment the commlink has no OS and is as such useless also the empathy software requires a camera or some form of image link up that I can't see in your gear at all.
    • I presume given the throwing weapons skill you are planning on using the cougar's as thrown weapons, while I will allow this as they are not designed that way I will be providing an undisclosed dice pool penalty to the action so you may wish to swap these for throwing knives.
    [li]Again since you mentioned being the suave type I would have expected to see a few more social skills.

    The character certainly has promise and I have no objection to there being two combat types in the group but I am conscious that at the moment this character seems to more focused on combat than the suaveness that was advertised.

Cool as cool; removing all but Delta-Amyloid on mine.

Also dropping Infiltration down a little to pick up Leadership (Persuasion) to deal with civilians. Intimidation might be a better choice now that I think about it; if I can get someone to back down by convincing them I'm a threat they don't want to mess with so I don't have to kill them, all the better.

Will you allow Empathy software to work with Contacts with Vision Enhancement and/or Image Link? I already have Nanopaste Trodes, so I don't think Image Link is really necessary, but I can certainly add it easily enough.

Kichiro Myazawi: A 45-year old Yakuza Kobun of the Wanabuchi-gumi, she did some discreet runs for him and his organisation and in exchange she is protected.

Soumiko Sezu: A 31 year old human female adept, she a street cop in the NTPD.  They have worked together a lot during the tempo troubles and know each other quite well, also off-duty.

Physical Description: An average looking woman, she normally has long hair done up in a simple pony tail.  On runs, she often wears loose fitting clothes with armour.

Mariko was born as second daughter of a Neo-Tokyo PD homicide investigator and a supermarket logistics worker.  While there wasn’t much room for luxuries, they still lived a comfortable life and their parents, even though they were working hard, tried to spend some quality time with their children.  Her childhood was quite idyllic until she turned 13.  During a fight on the school yard she was involved in she suddenly dropped one of the others.  The investigation after the event indicated that she was awakened as a mage.  She was put in a special program for mages in high school, based on the Shinto tradition, and wanted to go to university.  But this was too expensive.  So Neo-Tokyo PD stepped in and paid for the courses in exchange for her coming to work for them after graduating.  She had no real problem with that, as she had always been intrigued by her father’s stories about investigations.

After getting a bachelor’s degree (despite seriously failing ritual spellcasting) she went to the Police Academy, where she was trained as a forensic specialist, although she did get the general courses as well.  After graduating she was placed in the homicide division in Odaiba. (regulations prohibited her from serving with family and her father was in Downtown).  It didn’t take long for her to see her first body.  That first case was pretty straight forward and the forensic evidence was only to support the confession they had gotten.

In the following years she gained a reputation as a good specialist who could find out very much with very few clues.  Her magical potential also continued to grow and she added spells to her repertoire that helped her finding clues, but due to the shortage of mages she would also due other things, like help with interrogations.  She wouldn’t be in the room itself, but she would be behind the mirror with a spell that would tell her where the suspect was lying.  She would then compare notes with the interrogator later.  As follower of the kami Fukurō (owl) she was skilled in detection.

When the tempo scare began in 2071, NTPD put resources on high alert, even though it didn’t affect Tokyo as much as it did other sprawls.  Mariko was also part of this and while she still did mostly forensics, she did saw a lot of combat during this period, including a couple of raids on tempo dens.  She got a couple of spells to help her during those, including spells to drop raging tempo addicts.  But not all went well.  In May her sister went missing.  As she was family of two NTPD people they did try to find the person responsible, but to no avail.  She did try to find her after her hours, even though it was against regulations for people to be involved in investigations concerning family it was often done and mostly allowed.  But in this case something went wrong and she accidentally contaminated a crime scene.  As woman she was the scape goat and she was fired.  Luckily for her mages were also wanted in the shadows as well and as forensic mage she wasn’t as well known as some street cops where.  Her training made her well suited for certain types of jobs and she also knew what she had to do to remove all traces from a crime scene, which she always did rigorously.

She specialises in private detective work, where her spells and skills work very well.  One of her first runs was for a Yakuza Kobun of the Wanabuchi-gumi, who wanted to have something handled discreetly to keep face within the organisation.  She did this quickly and in return he helped her getting some fake SINs.  She did some more things for him from time to time, but is not a part of the organisation.  She also did a few runs for Otome, again doing surveillance.

The only thing I think you might want to have problems with is the empathy software, but I took that because from the look of it I'll be the face as well (having a charisma based tradition helps) and I don't have the skillset for it.  So I need an edge and the empathy software will give me that.  I've limited it at rating 3 (my commlink has response 4, so that should work) so it gives me an edge without it being too much.  And the police probably uses that kind of software to get an edge during interrogations.
