Well, that ain't great. Needed 3 hits to not be surprised.

As The Masked Woman passes through the hull of the vehicle, she finds herself greeted by a small squadron of 8 men, all equipped in heavy gear and with an average essence of less than 2. Their emotional state suggests they're a combination of tense and bored, like they're anticipating something, and have been for a long time, but aren't expecting to find it. As you look around, you find, much to your surprise, one of the men is currently Astrally active. He stares right at you, and looks like he's a lot quicker on the uptake than you are. He is unaugmented and has Magic 5.

Masked Woman: Astral Initiative 12 + 3d6: 3d6+12 19 -10, for Surprise. You have 9 Initiative.

You have 2 Edge left and are currently Surprised. You will not get to defend against any attacks against you unless you spend another point of Edge.

Yes, not a very impressive result for 18 dice of surprise-negation.

I am thinking any magician accompanying a bunch of lads with sub-2 Essense is capable of something rather terrifying so, yes, I would be interested in spending Edge to avoid being shot out of the helicopter in a flaming ball. I presume this is the Sixth Sense rule from Run & Gun.

The core book also mentions that you can spend edge to get a defense test while surprised, but yes, looks like they named it as an official use of Edge in Run & Gun.

Can't find my Hacking stat so for my first action I will Hack on the Fly to put a Mark on the Nissan Hound and use a free action to tell the agent to defend the deck.

And, as of yet, there have been no shots fired or anything like that?

Log4+military3: 7d6t5 4

based on that knowledge roll, would i recognize their approach angle as a commonly used attack vector or see any signs in their behavior or appearance that would indicate hostile intent before the shots actually start?

You've got the Cracking group at 6, so you have Hacking 6. Gotta keep your sheet updated.

so to hack on the fly, by my count, you've got Logic 9 + Hacking 6 + VR 2 - Wound 1.

You are not trippin, there's also a clip of Fragmentation grenades.

It's a full clip, 6 rounds.

Your instincts and military knowledge tell you that if they were in an attack angle on your car, they could have opened fire long before they got this close. You suspect that they are actually doing recon and are searching for something.

Or at least they were, before The Masked Woman popped in to say hello. That may no longer be true, though Uncle Sam isn't aware that just happened.

Well, we couldnt duck em at full strength with all of our mental bits working 100%, we damn sure aint gonna be able to duck em now.

Once sam's turn comes up, he's gonna take his first simple action to open the window if it opens or break it if it doesn't. The second simple action will be to lean out the window and fire off a round with the nade launcher.

Crumpled Ap1 Hack on the Fly:
Hacking on the Fly Rd 1: 16d6t5 5

Agent AP1 -Full Defense: (Inititave drops to 10)

Crumple gets 2 net hits, so he gets to ask for 1 free thing from Matrix Perception. Feel Free to post your results in IC.

Once sam's turn comes up, he's gonna take his first simple action to open the window if it opens or break it if it doesn't. The second simple action will be to lean out the window and fire off a round with the nade launcher.

You needed 3 hits on perception to get a clear view of them and you got 2. If you shoot at them, you're looking at Blind Fire.

So that will be Moderate Snow, Total Darkness, Light Winds, Medium Range, and Blind Fire.

Thermal brings Visibility and Light up to -1 and -3, your Smartgun negates the Wind, and you don't have an action to spare on Take Aim to negate range. Total penalties come out to -1 Visibility, -3 Light, 0 Wind, -1 Range. -1 Visibility and Range combine to become a -3. That combines with Light to become a -6.

-6 Environmental Modifiers, -6 Blind Fire, for a total of -12. You have Agility 9 + Heavy Weapons 5 + Smartlink 1, for 15 dice.

So if you decide to attack anyway, you have 3d6 on this attack, and need 3 hits to not scatter. You have Edge 4 if you decide to use it.

Working on my IC post now. Just have one question. Can I describe my matrix presence or is that something you already have written down somewhere?

You can say it is whatever you want it to be. That is one of those details I'm leaving up to you to define, just like the appearance of the character and his knowledge skills.

The Nissan is slaved to a Shiawase Cyber-5 that is part of the same PAN. Now that you have a mark on the Nissan, you're able to see all the devices in the PAN, including the deck. The deck is running silent, but marking the Nissan also gave you a mark on the deck. The rest of the icons in the PAN are all running silent.

It is now Uncle Sam's turn.

For when it gets around to Chino; I'll spend my first Complex action keeping the Rover from counting as uncontrolled at the end of the turn. (IC to follow)

May I use a Free action switching to VR control? Assuming it's still valid by the time we get to a 2nd IP, how confident would I be in picking whether it's going to be handling / speed for a Break Away test? I'm assuming handling on the mountains.

You do not actually have any marks or ownership of the vehicle, so no, you can't control it in VR. In fact, none of your group has any marks on the car at the moment, so the only control any of you have over it is the steering wheel you are currently using.

You are pretty sure it'd be a handling test, because of the terrain. Of course, they're airborne, so they're in a significant advantage over you.
