I have found interesting over the years to see some of the speculative technology go from fiction to reality.  For example, the "wristphone" of SR1 was many years ahead of the current, ubiquitous cellphone.

Here is another good example of an iPod app that is called, coincidentally, "augmented reality."  One day soon....

Did you see the bit about the rat brains controlling robots?

You can find it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wACltn9QpCc&feature=related.

True Augmented Reality is a while off yet. But damn it has the potential to do exactly as advertised in shadowrun. I think the best way to fast track the stuff is to demo up to the big tech companies what it can accomplish. That said microsoft has already funded an AR research facility at the place i am hoping to do my masters. Definitly want in for a semester of research there.

The 3D televisions that are coming out are getting better and better, much better than their predecessors, and then there's the Xbox 360 peripheral Kinect.

Completely ignore the fact that people are complaining that the hardware is "racist" because it has trouble recognizing people with darker skin colors.

As soon as they find a way to shove those two together into something small that can be carried, I know what's going on my Christmas list for 2015.

I followed the augmented reality link on switched, found this as well. Body mods, here we come!

Ahh, the Kinect.

First off, they fixed the problem with dark colors. Check out Angry Joe's review. He demonstrates that not only does it work with dark clothing, it works in near-darkness as well.

Second, with the facial recognition software and motorized camera that follows you around the room, AS YOU WALK INTO THE ROOM, it can be a bit creepy.

Third, and finally, I'm not even interested in this as a gaming peripheral. I am interested in this as a PC/Laptop peripheral. I can easily see this replacing mice as a the main peripheral for a computer. AND, if you make it so that you can call up a virtual keyboard, it may even replace that for the average consumer.

Iron Man/Bat-Computer, here we come!

The possibilities of new kinds of porn made with this peripheral are kind of frightening, as well.

Ah, I heard the problem was with the actual skin, it's good to know they fixed it. The person I heard it from had a bad source I think.

If (or when?) they come out with the Iron Man computer, I'm pretty sure I'll be foaming at the mouth with excitement, and scrounging around my pockets and my friend's pockets for money. ;D
