Tuskaloosa reached the trunk in a heartbeat, and lifted the lid eager to find what she needed to sever Firefly's chunk of debris from the rest of the door.
Her heart sank as she looked at the array of proper tools...all human sized. They looked like a child's First Tool set.
She grabbed a crowbar and reciprocating saw anyway, along with duct tape and a glue gun.
The Americar had been reflected off the wall; it wasn't much, but there was a gap wide enough for a small troll. Firefly's window was still there, but only thanks to the safety glass; the window was a jigsaw wall. Tuskaloosa carefully wedged her survival knife along the sides and top of the frame, then peeled it back.
The decker was still conscious, but was yelling about the Jade Dragon decker. The troll added head trauma to the list of the girl's injuries, but let the obvious (and late) discovery slide as she did her best to examine the tortured door's inner side.
“Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”
Quickly she looked up: she could see no one. Just peachy...
“Show yself, fragger!” Arc growled.
At least I'm not the only one who heard that...
“Showing yourself got you shown up. Did your venture gain?” The voice moved from alley to the rear of the car, giggling.
Still nothing. Great, the troll thought, first Nicolai and now this.
Like Nicolai, if their chatty observer wanted them, they'd be dead already. She turned her focus back to the task before her.
Arc echoed her thoughts: “I don't know what ya here for, but if wanted to finish us off, ya would done so already. So out with it, what you want with us?...venture was with gain. At least I hope. What's it to you?”
No doubt about that, she thought to herself. We gained quite the adventure. Now if we could only lose the car door in Firefly's chest without killing her...
The decker slumped.
Was it worse than I thought? “Fi--”
Arc hissed at her, then shook her head slightly: no names.
“But--”
The human looked down at the quiet Medkit.
Right—if she was flat-lining, the kit would be screaming about it. So, she dimmed the lights...Heckofa time to leave home, though!
