The assumption is that Doc is monitoring the situation, both for Matrix security and Ohanzee's physical security. Ace and Chino are aware of what's going on and can contribute ICly.

Gotcha.  Ohanzee made the call that Ace would agree with.  Chino probably wants to stomp them based on principle, but he is distracted  ;)

ETA: Nice Pulp Fiction reference, btw.

ETA2: I'd like to roll Security Tactics to see if Ace is being a little overly paranoid, or if he's on the right track as for as his knowledge pool would suggest SecForce is doing.

Knowledge Roll: Security Tactics: 9d6t5 3
Middling.

In case either the Corporate or Rapid Response counts, here's the Specialization Dice.

I alluded to it IC, but Ohanzee's shopping list includes some new threads (maybe something with a wireless social bonus) and at least one or two fly-spy style drones. They are versatile - they can give us better visibility on our surroundings, act as scouts, and just generally give us better situational awareness. Beyond that, no real idea. Maybe our own vehicle so we can stop renting the van? Though there isn't anything in our price range that would hold us all (much less all of us plus gear plus artifact if need be).

Also, I've been meaning to ask. Katsina seems to reflect a lot about her age, wondering if she new various 5th world historical figures. But HMHVV wasn't a thing until the 6th world (except exceedingly rare cases), so as far as I am aware, her odds of being a 5th (or even 4th) world vamp are vanishingly small. Especially since such a vampire would almost certainly be swimming in karma moreso than Katsina has so far exhibited.

So, is there something that makes her think she is very old? Perhaps her True Face?

Not a bad idea. Your biggest hurdle will be Availability, since Grand Junction isn't exactly a fashion mecca. Between the agrarian nature of the community and the depressed economy, supply is going to be tight. Also, anything with Custom Fit is going to take a while to get fitted, which will slow you down.

I'll say that you can find Vashon Island, but not Armanté, Mortimer of London, or Zoé. Your best bet might be the Vashon Island: Ace of Coins (Armor 7, Capacity 10, Availability 4, ¥2,100, Increase Social Limit by 3, Wireless: +1 dice pool bonus to Social Tests). It's garish (black juggernaut hide with platinum thread stitching and solid gold accents) and Ohanzee will stick out, but he'll look awesome doing it.

...and at least one or two fly-spy style drones. They are versatile - they can give us better visibility on our surroundings, act as scouts, and just generally give us better situational awareness.

Also not a bad idea. Good news: I'm going to label these "electronics", so they only cost 80% of their listed price (as per Nation American Nations, Vol. 1). Bad news: Nobody has the skills or a RCC to pilot the drones, so you'll have to rely on their Pilot programs.

Maybe our own vehicle so we can stop renting the van? Though there isn't anything in our price range that would hold us all (much less all of us plus gear plus artifact if need be).

You could buy used, but between that and the items above you'd be spending most, if not all, of your budget. But, your logic is sound. On that note...

ETA: Nice Pulp Fiction reference, btw.

Middling.

Thank you; always glad when someone catches the references. And, a good idea to roll.

The van you have is rented under Ohanzee's SIN. Back in February (February 20th, if you want to go back and check for yourself), we weren't explicit about whether he was using his real SIN or his fake SIN. I presumed his fake one, but it's unclear. (Tangent: Ohanzee has a National SIN and a fake SIN. According to Ryo's records, they both were under the same name. I don't know if there's a logical reason why Ohanzee would have a fake SIN that would use his real name. It might be convenient for keeping identities straight, but it seems like a good way for one to dirty the other. Any guesses? End tangent.)

Ohanzee just provided his fake SIN while selling gold to the dwarf. If the dwarf does sell you out, as his competitors suggested (or were they just trying to get you to avoid doing business with a rival?), then it would now be possible for SecForce to connect the "person of interest" selling gold with the one who rented the van. That means that SecForce could flag the van when it passes by a traffic drone. Traffic drones are common, so the only question is how quickly they would make the connection. An hour? A day? If, of course, Baqir sold you out at all.

Next
@All (but especially Zweiblumen and Malevolence) Drones: which ones? An MCT Fly-Spy and/or a Horizon Flying Eye?
@All Bathing, where? You can probably rent a room in some seedy motel and sneak additional guests in and out. If so, let me know which SIN to use.
@rednblack I'll let you share some of Ace's insights on SecForce
@Malevolence Which suit, if any?
@Poindexter Sam's response to Katsina's instruction

I don't know what a True Face is, unless you just mean her real face.

Everything you say is true. +1 Edge refresh for Ohanzee for critical thinking and analysis, even if it's OOC.

As for Katsina, she doesn't have any evidence for being old; she simply feels old. She doesn't remember her pre-amnesia life any better than the others - just little hints and flashes of who she used to be and what life used to be like - but those glimpses feel like a long time ago.

I suppose it would be like waking up and not being entirely certain about how long you slept, but suspecting that you slept a long time (even though you had no way to keep track of the passage of time while you slept).

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what mechanically Doc can do to keep an eye out for hits on Ohanzee's SIN.  I'm all ears for ideas, baring that Doc would suggest that we return the van from one city and renting another one under one of Ace's identities from another city (having the van come meet us).
All told, I'd prefer to keep what we've got as it's a really nice van :P

This is in rules lite territory, but is there a way to use spoof the van's location as far as the rental agency is concerned, and/or spoof our credentials for the traffic drones?

Getting a new van under a different SIN is probably the cleanest way to go. Of course, it puts the next SIN at risk, but if all goes well you'll be pretty rich in a few days and can buy new SINs. (If all doesn't go well, you'll either be dead, or on the run with a burned SIN.) You do have the "sport package" upgrade on this van, so the next van either won't be as nice or will be more expensive, neither of which may matter much in the long run.

Separately, if you do opt for a new van there's the question of how you want to clean the current van of potential evidence and/or material links.

As for rednblack's proposal, this isn't well defined by the rules but it does seem viable so I'll entertain feasible proposals as for the mechanics.

A couple possibilities:
1) Since you don't have a jammer (and they are Forbidden, so you can't just grab one at the electronics store), Doc could use the Jam Signals action to derail traffic drones. He would need to monitor his overwatch score closely, as this is an Attack action.
2) Hack traffic drones individually and spoof them to think everything is okey-dokey.

I'm reasonably certain I read some fluff recently that confirmed that modern vehicles still do have license plates, even if 99% of the time the vehicle is identified by the wireless signal that it's transmitting. Perhaps license plates are still necessary for rural areas or other locations with unreliable Matrix access. While the PCC is very technologically advanced, it is also very large and, in many places, very empty.

(Tangent, because I did the math: Sixth World Almanac lists the PCC population as 38,500,000, which is probably unrealistically low given the annexation of Los Angeles, but we'll work with it. I estimate the PCC to be roughly 1,375,000 square kilometers. That would equate to a population density of 28 per square kilometer, along the lines of today's Estonia, Kyrgyzstan, or Equatorial Guinea. Put another way, it means everyone in the PCC has about 9 acres to themselves. If we subtract the LA sprawl and its population, that number increases to 24 acres for every metahuman, which is comparable to today's Turkmenistan or Chad. Either way: pretty empty. End tangent.)

So, the fun but risky way would be to snipe the drones and make sure they think we are something we aren't.  But the *safe* way is getting a new van IMHO.  We've got cash, and we've got SINs.  I vote we go that way.  1. less overhead for Tec to keep track of and 2. less chance of Doc screwing up.  Also, leaves him free to do other things.  If we end up in a situation where we need matrix support and then a drone sneaks up on us and Doc misses it, the gig is potentially up.

I'll go with that as a player, and Ace will defer to Doc's expertise IC.

Sounds good.

@rednblack I presume Chino doesn't care and/or follows Ace's lead. I also presume that Ohanzee doesn't want to use his real SIN. As such, that leaves Ace as the only one with valid SINs that could be used. I will assume that he will use the lesser of the two (Josh Adams, rating 5), which should be sufficient, unless you tell me otherwise.

@zweiblumen Why don't you do an IC post with Doc's recommendation to swap vehicles.

Once that's done, I'll do an IC post with the gang going to the mall while the Pilot programs of the various vans return the current rental and bring you a new ride while you're shopping.

A few outstanding questions:
- How are you cleaning your current van before returning it?
- Drones, yay or nay? If so, which?
- Clothing, yay or nay? If so, what?
- Bathing, yay or nay? If so, where?

Matrix Search for car wash (Comp 5 + Int 4 + Ganglia 1 = 10): 10d6t5 3

Yes to drone, don't care which one as I don't think there's much of a difference functionally between the fly-spy and the flying eye.
Yes to clothing, Doc isn't picky.  The cowboy store would be fine with him.
Yes to bathing, someplace in Grand junction.  Here's a search for suitable options:
